As I am one of those WCG maniacs who own multiple Dual Harpertown systems (real Octacore systems) I can tell you linpack is very well capable of running 8 threads / on 8 cores - Intel just didn't want it to with i7 because all the "normal" people using stock coolers would probably degrade or kill their CPUs

If you use linpack on an i7, disable HT beforehand. It gives higher Gflop rating, faster runtimes and stresses the CPU more. Still, prime blend with HT on is currently the best option to stress i7.
maybe, i just noticed that they updated linpack for Ci7.

But linpack still stresses the cpu much more then prime.
