The case comes with a mesh grill which looks very nice. Your idea is interesting - creating a design by removing parts of the mesh would be a challenging proposition. I have an extra top grill from a trashed TJO7 I could experiment on.

I used one of the hard drive enclosures that comes with the case - mounted vertically. These enclosures are designed to also house a 120mm fan.

Project Update: I came up with a new design for the opening at the top. It's simple - but perhaps a bit busy. I'll have one cut to see how it looks. I would have rather run the lines in the other direction but there was no way without having to break them every 6" or so which would ruin the linear flow. Without the breaks they would sag. With this orientation and at 5mm thickness, they should be alright - we'll see. The continuous opening is 2mm wide which should be enough to provide decent airflow. I didn't want the opening to be so wide that things could easily fall into the case.

If this design doesn't work out we'll go with the original black grill. I just wanted to create something that offered a view into the case from the top and allowed airflow; I certainly don't want to add something that diminishes from the overall aesthetic.

Just waiting on the EK Nickel blocks and white LED strip lights. we're in the home stretch now.
