you have not stated your overclocking objective...really hard to say...every piece of hardware acts differently for each user.

    ie: Q6600 @ ~3600mhz

What voltages (bios settings) would you be willing to subject your cpu / mb to if temperatures weren't an issue?

Thumbs up Just completed the BoltMod (Ace-a-Rue Mod)

    I just finished the Bolt Mod (a.k.a. "Ace-a-Rue" Mod), I removed the HS, and then removed the thermal pad from the PWM/Mosfet Heatsink. I then removed the center thermal pad on the NB, but I left the white cushioning pad on the NB Heatsink, I then applied TX-2 to all 3 heatsinks;
1 small drop in the center of the NB
1 medium size drop in the center of the SB
and I spreaded a thin layer (using a razor) on the PWM/Mosfet HS

    Here are some pictures...
[All Pictures are Thumbnails, you can click to view the larger/original photo]
Here is what the board looks like when the Heatpipe is removed:

Here is the bottom of the heatpipe (with and without the thermalpads):

It's late... I mistakenly put the screws/nuts in backwards (The WRONG WAY):

Ahh much better (The RIGHT way):

    Close ups...
    PWM/Mosfets:

    Northbridge:

    Southbridge:

Couple of questions for anyone who has preformed the mod:
    • Did you leave the white cushioning pad on the NB HS?
    • How tight should these screws/nuts be? How will I know when to stop tightening?

DO NOT FIRE THAT COMPUTER UP!!!
you need to have rubber washers on the backside of the the mb,to go along iwth the steel washers. you could be kissing goodbye your board.

use your judgement went tightening the bolts down.
you will know when they are tight enough.

i can't tell...did you use a rubber bushing between the galvanized washer or a felt bushing on the bottom of the motherboard?...if not, do not power the board on until you do.

What could be some reasons for me not being able to even POST at 500 MHz FSB? My processor is stable at 3.51 GHz @ 9x390 and 3.504 GHz @ 8x438, and my memory is DDR2 1000 tested stable at that speed. When I set my computer to 3.5 GHz @ 7x500 at RAM at 1:1, my computer can't even post; it gives a postcode of C1. I was hoping to be able to support high FSBs for a future Penryn overclock.

Looks like the limit for POSTing is about 468 MHz, and booting Vista is in the 450+ range.

The board hasn't been fired up yet... Thank goodness I posted these pic's... but to be honest, I don't know if the backside is rubber or not, I think it is...
Here are some pic's that will hopefully clear this up...

Thanks for clearing that up Ace-a-Rue, I was getting nervous their for a second

Can you help me with my question about the NB, in the following picture you'll notice I removed the center thermal pad, but I left the outer cushion pad, is this correct?

I also placed a small drop of TX-2 where the old center thermal pad was (not pictured).

w/o mods I can boot into vista @ 525-540~ there abouts without a hitch as long as I don't push the processor too much but 525 is the furthest I have gone for long term use w/ my E6850.. may want to tweak your settings - I can't remember what the mean OC FSB is for Q6600s though

yes, thats correct as far as i know. Thats the way i did it. The white pad keeps it level on the core...

i removed it since i lapped that center with 400 or 600 paper...then, i realized what budwise said...so...my fix was to put electrical tape over the outer core of the NB to protect the electrical contacts protruding among the outer area of the NB chip...i presume the cushion is there to keep it from shorting out any of those contacts if the bridge was knocked or pushed making it off balance.

Thanks for clearing that up Budwise & Ace-a-Rue,

Now can someone post some pictures or explain how I am supposed to mount 40mm fans to the PWM & NB heatsinks?

just balance a 60mm or an 80mm over the pwm, if you have a tuniq or TRUE heatsink it's pretty easy to get it balanced right so it dont fall. I used one zip tie on the right edge to attach a 40mm evercool to the NB..it does alright.

    ICHIO:

    Thanks for your inputs!
These work for me on 400x9

    VTT:1.27
    MCH:1.29
    :ich:1.09
    ICHIO:1.55

Vcore will depend your chip, if running 1:1 your FSB shouldnt have any problems and 1.29 mch is fine. 1.33v tops for 400FSB. Your vdimm settings will vary per memory aswell.

    hope that helps.

    Thanks for the suggestions,
and are you pointing the fans/air at(push) or away(pull) from the heatsinks?

Ace-a-rue, from the looks of the pics you are pushing air towards the heatsinks, is that correct?

I don't think watercooling the NB is neccesary on this board unless you are going for max FSB. Do the heatpipe mod and you should be good to go. At 500 FSB my NB gets warm but not hot and thats just with 120 fan cooling from side panel.

i always try to push air flow over the heatsink.

It's about time to contribute something to this thread...

Here are some shots my IP35 Pro cooling mods. Necessary? No - but it was fun. I'm still in the midst of my build, so no results yet.

    Some notes:

    - Swiftech MCW30 on the MCH
    - Enzotech SB1 on the ICH
    - MOSFET heatsink was once a Socket 370 heatsink that I cut to fit in that location. Dimensions are 25mm X 60mm, minus the notch at the top to clear the cap in that location. Holes were drilled and tapped with a 4-40 thread.
    - SB and MOSFET heatsinks are attached with 4-40 x 1/2" screws with flat and rubber washers underneath.
    - Thermalright 775 backplate behind the FuZion...
