AMD would never waste time positioning against both a GTX460 768Mb and 1gb part. The 768Mb part was dead on arrival as far as I'm concerned. Anyone who is in the know would pony up the extra $20 for the much improved performance of the 1gb.

This being said, if Barts XT isnt as least as good as a 5870, I will be disapoint son.
Thats some high expectations. The 5830 is around as fast as a 4890 for example. I could see it happening with a combination of two things a die shrink and a new architecture. Since we are getting kind of the latter, I think they might get half way there, which puts the 6770 at 5850 performance which the rumors are suggesting.

AMD needs to return to efficiency of their shaders which they had before. 960 shaders would be enough if they performed like 4890 shaders. A 4890 performs the same as a 5830 and it only has 800 shaders. Adding 20 percent more of those would have gotten you to 5850 speed if not more because of the added ROPs. Directx 11 has made both sides less efficient. Luckily for AMD it made up for this with decreased power consumption, NV on the other hand not so much.
