    If your going to stay at 450fsb you can probably drop some more voltage, even with that vid I think you could do 4ghz with 1.3vcore or less. If you want to, try lowering vcore to 1.3375 or raise fsb to 461 but keep the settings you just posted.

    Nice! We basically have the same Q9650 VID. I run the same setting as you except for the MCH and vtt.

    Hoss331 sounds like a plan for sure now that we know the proc is not crashing lets see whats happens with the prime 95 blend im running when i get back from work it should of been running at least 10 hours hope its holds , then ill drop the vcore some more , is my vid a good one ?

    1.25 seems to be the most common vid on the 9650s. I wouldnt say its a bad vid but its on the higher side so it may need a little extra voltage. Some high vid chips need a good bit of voltage while others like Jupilers do well on lower volts, just have to test them out. Mines a 1.15vid so it runs well on low volts but it does run rather toasty. This is what I mean by low volts.

    You are lucky.
    Heat i can deal with but my VID is 1.30!!!!
    But even mine can do 4.0Ghz with 1.34V which i think makes the Q9650 a great chip.

    I find you can bring the voltage down allot on the cpu if you give it some extra VTT voltage.
    Nice chip you got there.

    Finally got my q9550 up. Read through all 142 pages and it's been soooo informative. i tried plenty of templates, tweaked the values but still can't get the 4.0ghz. Funny that the chip does 3.8 pretty easily though.

    The key settings are: CPU Termination, CPU Reference, MCH Core and MCH Reference right?
    My settings for those are 1.3, 0.848, 1.3, 0.863, with the vcore at 1.3
    I'll probably post again later with the full template but these are the values that i remember off-hand.

    After some fiddling around, i found that if i have my MCH core @ 1.32, linx runs for like 30 odd seconds. But @ 1.3, i can't even run 5 seconds of linx; computer just crashes and reboots.

    I'm kinda wondering how to proceed from here. I've tried almost every single combination available but can't seem to find the sweet spot. I think this q9550 is capable of much much more.. hoping to get a 4ghz with low 24/7 volts

    None of my chips have really responded to extra vtt. For that run I was using 1.26vtt and 1.28nb, for 4.3+ (480s fsb) I use 1.28vtt and 1.30nb, 490+ 1.30vtt.

    Nice and Stable

    Yo Hoss331 crack that bottle , passed the blend at 12 hours and not one error dude , man your good with this board dude , really thanks again for your help if not I would of been stuck for who knows how long trying , and never of figured out the setting you picked I saw that run you did with the intel burn 1.216 v wow that's amazing Ive never had any chip run that low on vcore at a 11 ghz overclock , but you said it gets toasty must have like a higher resistance or something , I thought maybe it would run cooler.

    Prime 95 BLEND 12 hours

    Should I tweak the voltage down now maybe 2 notches ?

    Ive read the same on the q9650 you should never need more than 1.24 to 1.30
    to push past 4.0 except on some older boards like my DFI UT P35-T2R which where really designed for the dual cores 65m and 45m and really only designed to push the q6600 on a high vtt because of the boards high vtt requirements towards high fsb

    VTT = 1.2V - 1.3V = Up to 400 FSB

    VTT= 1.4V - 1.55V = 420-440FSB

    VTT=1.6V = 440-475FSB

    Just sold my E8400 and will be heading over to i7 soon.

    This was one of my latest overclocks (highest too)

    I also tried for some FSB action but I really think my RAM is limiting me here.

    OK. First of all, i trust you are not saying that you would use those VTT values! Common is .05 - .1 below CPU Voltage.
    as well, hope you realize the values expressed in ET 6 for CPU Ref anf MCH ref are not the true values, They are the values in relation to stock VTT. So, if ET 6 is reporting .785, that is .785 if VTT was set to 1.2. as you raise the VTT, the ref values go up, but Easytune does not show this. More info here.

    No dude , sorry if it sounded wrong Im saying that it is harder to use the older boards like the p35 with the newer 45m quads cause you cannot push past 4.0 safely they say on a 1.4 vtt , but if you where following the p35 vtt and fsb relation to get a q9650 to say 4.0 you need at least 450 fsb x 9 with a vtt 1.5 1.6 , this was easy with a 65m cause they weren't as temperamental towards vtt and can take the abuse

    Good deal. You can lower the voltage if you want but I would leave those settings and start raising fsb, maybe try for 461. Generally speaking the lower the vid the hotter the chip runs but at less voltage, the higher the vid the cooler it runs but with more voltage.

    Not bad dude , your almost running the same exact setting I am except for the mch core which ya have is a lil higher and the mch ref with ya have a lil lower , those temps your running is that with the prime running , if it is man your cooling is doing great ! ! ! , Im pushing 58 - 60 celcius and im running a double 120 and a single 120 , but im running 3 year old black ice extreme radiators with like helicopter fans , there not very efficient anymore and maybe next month ill flip out for XSPC RX360 with meduim fans that should do the trick bring me down another maybe 4 c ...

    I dont know if these gskills pi ddr2 900 will hold much higher , with out loosing the timing ive heard on like one forum , that these are really the gskills pi 800 just pushed harder , but for sure tommorow ill try see if theyll hold .. what kind of cooling are you using hoss331 ?

    for my 9x500@4500 ddr1200 and it worked
    it was at 1.356 in bios for 1.32v in windows
    now it 1.350 bios still 1.32v in windows,but damn thats just great

    overall dude nice man ,
    Thanks Dude! Yup those were my temps while prime was still running. My CPU Utilization is at 100% on the Everest side bar. I just have a Silverstone FM123 pushing air at 1,600rpm on the TR HR-01+.

    I was thinking of getting the Megahelems, but the HR-01+ is doing its job. I got mine with a flat base, hand picked, LOL!

    @radaja

    Nice man! 1.32v vcore in windows is great for that OC you got!

    Nice but does Orthos really stress all four core, I think it only stress two or all four up to 50%. Let me know if i´m wrong.

    Run the same with Prime95 small FFT or if blend, try custom with four instances with max memory use, it gonna make a different.
