1004 (or 1006) is the bios you want so your good there. Also
set your vcore, fsb term, and pll manually, the auto settings can be too
high for the 45nm e8400 to handle.

    Defaults for these are:
CPU Vcore: depends on your VID prolly 1.1125v, you can check with coretemp.
FSB Term: 1.10v (My two work best at default yours prolly will too)
    PLL Voltage: 1.50v

And when you start Overclocking Disable "Transaction Booster" It makes
the timings too tight for cranking up the FSB Freq.

Oh and don't get too crazy with the vcore, there is some controversy about this so
if you want to be on the safe side stay under 1.36v

    Good Luck
Awesome, thank you for the info. I plan to play around a bit today. I also have read enough to know that I want to try and keep the vCore not only as low as possible, but to also keep it (for the 45nm chips) below 1.36v if at all possible. Personally if I can't get to 4ghz with 1.36v or below then I won't be too heart broken. 3.6 to 3.8ghz is still a TON faster then what I had before.

So those are the only settings I have to mess with? Nothing with the memory voltages or timings or anything? I have read a number of people adjusting all those as well. Not to mention a few who needed to adjust the mem settings for thier OC.

Wish me luck as I plan to play around with some of the settings you listed. I'm thinking of going for the 445x9 to get the 4ghz. I just hope it won't require over the 1.36v. If so then I'll just have to back it off to the highest OC I can to stay under the 1.36v.

And as promised my E8400 is FPO/Batch Q748A211, VID of 1.1125.

As for the temp software, I've been using more then just the ASUS stuff (but will stop as recommended). I've been using SpeedFan as well as CoreTemp. I wanted to try a few different temp software to make sure I was covering my bases. haha.

    My yeOlde Rig:

    ASUS P4B-266
    Intel P4 - 1.8ghz (512k cache) Northwood (Socket 478 even)
    1g (512x2) Corsair XMS

So needless to say.. HUGE upgrade here. lol

EDIT: Well with some of my quick testing I'm able to run at 445x9 (4005ghz) with only a 1.30 vCore. Temps from Real-Temp are at C0-53c max, C1-52c max under load. Although CoreTemp and OCCT are showing 61/60c under load. So I'm unsure as to which to believe. SpeedFan and the bad ASUS Probe II are showing CPU@45c and MB@34c. So it seems as though my temps are ok under this load. OCCT has been quite stable although Prime95 hasn't been very successful. Any ideas?

My next thing to try is to change the RAM timings from 5x5x5x18 to the rated 4x4x4x12@2.2v

Wish me luck that nothing decides to go poof. hahaha.
