the prime stable thing. I run my FSB @ 440mhz that's all my PC6400 will handle
@ 4x4x4x12 timings (actually 445mhz works ok but I like to have a stability
buffer) anyhow I am very happy with the performance like it is, as it blows
any stock pc on the current market away!!!

EDIT: If you are having to notch your FSB down too much because of your mem, try 2.3v on the mem, it should
be fine, but you may want to do a touch test on it while running a game, if it seem way hotter that it was @ 2.2v
you may need some active cooling on it (i.e. a fan).
I was thinking that but was a bit more leary as ram is much more sensitive iirc. As for cooling I have a neat but cheap Antec fan spot fan blowing on the RAM and NB to keep them cooler. Add in that my old Lian-li case has 6 fans and the rad is also helping move a bit of air, it should stay pretty cool in the case. =)

Apparently, the black dimm slots do. I swapped my RAM sticks to the black DIMM slots, and I was able to tight my RAM timings from 4-4-4-12-1T Transaction Booster 1 to 3-3-3-9-1T TB 3.

    This is on a E2180 overclocked to 10x333 with a 1:1 FSB:RAM ratio.

I'll have to try that seeing as mine are currently in the yellow ones. That might be my problem I suppose.

I recently updated my bios from 0703 to 1004 because I got a pair of mushkin xp2-6400 that didnt work and I thought upgrading the bios would help. Apparently one of the sticks is faulty, one of them works perfectly in single channel mode and with the other memtest hangs at start, etc.

Anyway I noticed that the "CPU temp" is now always 5 degrees lower than it was before. The Tcase one, it was usually 33º with normal usage (not totally idle) and now it's down to 28º. The cores still report the same temperatures. From what I read, the bios calibrates the Tcase, but the Tjunctions are already calibrated, which explains what happened. Should I believe the new temp?

Got the same problem with two kingston HyperX pc2-8500.one is working perfectly and the other falls in memtest after few seconds.
i tried swapping bios versions that didnt help. checked the memory on other pc's they work perfect both of them...
i still think it's a bios realted problem...

really? :S and what could be the cause for that?
the store I bought them from are gonna charge me real bad if I ship them two sticks that turn out to be working perfectly

the thing is, I've seen people reporting this modules to be working on p5k-e
plus it doesnt make much sense that one works and the other doesnt?

in my defense Ill say that the faulty stick doesnt work no matter what settings I change. ddr2-667, ddr2-800, messed with all the timings, voltages, tried both yellow and black slots. always the same error in memtest, always the same problem

well i sent mine to the store.they said there were fine.i checked at friends the sticks are fine! but when i install them at my rig, they fail and yes only one fails...also no matter the timmings voltage or speed,it always fail.
if you want to send them to the store check them at another pc first.
this board has a mind of its own, mine just doesnt like kingstone....

i love this board, it's been completely stable for me so far. finally got my w/c components installed and had some time to bench over easter weekend.

3900mhz was stable for 4x32m PI run and also a HD x264 run

4ghz required 1.6v real and i'm sure alot more to be stable but 1.6v was my limit. ram is low clocked at 1:1

    I'm building a new system w/ a Q6600 and a P5K-E WiFi.
This is my first build since 2003. I've never overclocked but want to.

I'm confused about which memory to buy. Looking at the QVL I don't see any dual channel kits. Do I pick one of the sticks listed and just by two? Don't they have to be a matched pair?
Anyone able to suggest a 2x2Gb & 2x4Gb dual channel kit from the QVL that they are passionate about?

Also the case I'm going to use is 7.75” wide. I want to use the Thermalright Ultra-120 eXtreme with the Scythe S-FLEX fan. Anyone know if 7.75” will be enough room? What might be an equilvilant heatsink that would work?

    Thanks,
    Rastus

My Crucial Ballistix 6400 run dual channel. it's a 2x1gb for 2gb of RAM which is fine for most things as depending on the OS (64bit OS can see more) you use you won't see anything over 3-4gb anyway.

As for the clearence in the case, I personally couldn't tell you. Although I must say that after my first attempt at water cooling I'm very happy with it. The initial investment is a slight bit more then a Ultra-120, but it's well worth it imo. Especially if you plan to OC at all.

Can someone explain please what is Vanderpool Technology ?
and what is the Purpose of the Execute Disable Bit?
and what they have to do with OCing?
    thanks.

Enable the execute disable bit as it has nothing to do with overclocking. Its the DEP in windows thats stops some memory exploit virii screwing with your rig. It also enables PAE (google it)

Vanderpool is visualisation technology, allows easier running of virtual machines. Also nowt to do with overclocking
