Well the lesser QPI volts may be due to the 1:1.5x Uncore Ratio on GT compared to 1:2 on BF right?
In regards to the bios I had the same question, exactly what is "improved"? How much you want to bet we're not going to be told anything more than just "improved system stability"?![]()
Got a sweet deal on a 760 Classy...thinking about switching![]()

The Marvell 9128 option ROM/Firmware can be updated editing the BIOS file quite easily. It took me only four or five hours of "googleing"/reading on specialist forums to do it.
The Intel RAID option ROM is also a module within the BIOS file that can be substituted. However due to a limitation on the ASUS BIOS for the R3E and R3G it won't accept option ROMs bigger than 64K (which the newest Intel RAID option ROMs are), so is not something your average joe (like yours truly) can do.
At this point the only solution is for ASUS to do it.
As I said a few posts back the in the BIOS for the soon-to-be-released R3G BE it has been updated already. So, I don't know if the engineers have been too busy developing the BIOS for this new board and ironing out issues with the Sandy Bridge ones or they just don't give two monkeys and a flyingabout the "old" X58 boards anymore.

I've just heard from the ASUS tech support rep...
According to him they've tried the R3G with two VERTEX drives (Indillinx based) and they're not able to reproduce the fault that happens with VERTEX 2 (Sandforce based), therefore there's nothing wrong with the BIOS and I should try different drives.
In other words, they can't reproduce a known fault on the 8.0.x Intel RAID ROM that affects every single board with the ICH10R SB when using Sandforce based drives in RAID 0 testing the controller with Indillinx based drives, therefore is my fault and I should get new drives.
Who is in the tech team? The Monty Python?
It's been a long struggle, but this time I give up. I'll get a new case, re-do the watercooling loop and go for an ATX board from a different manufacturer.
The micro-atx based computer looked rather "cute" and unobstrusive in my living room, but is no good if it doesn't work. In the past two months it hasn't consumed much electricity and has been dead silent, I give you that, but is no good if is silent and energy efficient just because I can't be asked to turn it on![]()

Mr. Toad,
I have the same board you do, and I think we've spoken in another thread. I saw your post(s) over at BIOS-Mods.com and wanted to see where your progress and perspective stood. I spent all weekend trying to install Windows on a C300 on the Marvell controller, and come to find out...Were you able to ever update the Marvell firmware successfully using the Asus 704 BIOS? I really want to get this computer up and running finally, even if I have to wait for 705 to fix the separate Intel controller issue. Thanks!
Hi there
The highest firmware version I've managed to flash successfully is 2.2.0.1113, with option ROM 1029.
The necessary files to do so are in my post in BIOS-mods
I wouldn't risk experimenting with firmware 2.2.0.1118 unless you're comfortable with the idea of reprogramming the EEPROM using a external flasher and/or desoldering the chip itself.
I managed a partial success with that one myself, but I wouldn't recommend it. Personally I ditched the 9128 and decided to buy a proper RAID controller.
Unfortunately a RAID controller in my case isn't an option, as I'm building a truly mATX build and the two video cards are covering all the slots.
When you say "partial success" what were the end results of the functionality after the flash? I saw that you had to de-solder the EPROM, but did you ever find the initial issue that caused that? Thanks!
I was in the same situation as you until the Radeon HD 6990 came to the rescue
The issue I had was that I didn't "split" the firmware file correctly prior to adding it to the BIOS and it ended up flashing garbage in the EEPROM.
I managed to sort it out with patience and the external programmer but I reverted to the previous version (the one in the Bios-mods post) because the latest one was giving me trouble. Sometimes it wouldn't load the option ROM upon boot...
Edit: by the way you don't need to desolder the EEPROM or an external programmer just to update the firmware of the Marvell controller, I just needed all that hassle because as I said Ied it up with the firmware 2.2.0.1118.
To update the option ROM to 1029 and the firmware to 2.2.0.1113 you just need to edit the original BIOS file with MMTOOL, substitute the original option ROM, E6 and E7 modules, save it and then flash it.
Hmm, this is the only one I could find on Station Drivers:
Firmware pour MV-9123/9128 (Firmware:1.0.0.1701 / 2.2.0.1118 / 1.0.0.1029) (from here of course: http://www.station-drivers.com/page/marvell.htm)
So I see that from this information, this is the v1029 you referred to, but it also contains the jacked up v2.2.0.1118 you mentioned. Suggestions?
That's the firmware updater for the EVGA Classified V3 (and probably other EVGA boards with the Marvell 9128 as well).
It's also the one that I used to create myself all the bother
I suggest you steer clear from it
Even after a successful flash I still had issues with it, and couldn't see any improvements.
Rawr. That sucks. Thanks for the heads up, looks like I'll have to wait with everyone else.![]()
Hi Bingo,
I see 1208 was released for R3E today with updated intel optionrom firmware.
ftp://ftp.asus.com.tw/pub/ASUS/mb/LG...e_III_Extreme/
It seems 1208 is the same as 1207, except it has the new firmware.
Will there be a 0004 bios that is the same as 0003 which also has the new firmware?
tRL adjustment helps a lot with my memory, so I can't use 1208.

MrToad,
New R3E bios 1208 has been released and apparently has the updated Intel firmware
I cannot say first hand though since I do not use RAID on the intel controller. Therefore I cannot access any setup menu where bios/firmware version information can be displayed.
Marvell firmware/bios remains unchanged however
Finally Asus comes through![]()

@MrToad:
Seems like it's waaay behind the versions that are out there from Marvell. But it is the latest "main" BIOS 704. I am disappoint.
