Awesome news about the firmware updates! We've been waiting for them! I wonder if this will make the Marvell controller more competitive in performance? It would be nice since I'm running my ssd's on it!

Any chance of a beta BIOS for the Rampage III Gene?

I'm having issues with the ICH10 RAID module dropping one of the drives on the array (and freezing the rig) and I've read that ASUS was going to release a BIOS with updated Intel RAID ROM

How did you get around the 64k limitation?

I had no issues updating the Marvell OPTROM on the R3G, but with the Intel OPTROM no joy... any other but the shipped 8.0.x (tried 8.5x, 9.x, 10.x) leads to no load.

MrToad did you use CBRom to perform the updates?

I used MMTool 3.22 and simply replaced the .bin modules for both controllers.

And I don't use RAID and only AHCI on the intel controller. Will try it to see if it actually loads.

Sorry for the false hopes . Worst case scenario the intel rom doesn't initialize and you just flash back to the previous bios. Or just use secondary Bios

Yeah, you don't need to switch BIOS... You just reset CMOS and defaults to AHCI, then is all peachy to re-flash with stock BIOS

Either way I used MMtool 3.22 to edit too

We'll have to wait and see if ASUS releases the update they promised few weeks ago...

EDIT: There's a 1.0.0.1029 OPTROM for the Marvell controller (extracted from BIOS of a GB board). Will give it a go tonight and if it's joyful I'll share link

EDIT2: After some fiddling with Hex Workshop I think I've managed to extract the proper E6, E7 and ROM from the "donor" M9123FW.BIN, about to build the BIOS and flash... Wish me luck :P

EDIT3: Built BIOS, flashed, got message "Updating blah controller blah blah now! Don't blah power..." then "Success!" I'm almost excited time to plug the HDDs and see what happens

EDIT 4: Enabled in BIOS, boot to OS, drivers... Seems to work Very minor victory because the big thing here is getting the Intel RAID updated and working (which has defeated me big time) but at least a victory

Yes, that would be mighty helpful... They're "a bit behind" when it comes to the matter of updating the Intel RAID BIOS... Only a few months...

I raised a ticket with ASUS yesterday explaining my issues with Sandforce SSDs on RAID 0 using Intel RAID and asking if there was an ETA for the updated BIOS.

    This is the reply:

    Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for contacting ASUS Customer Service.

My name is Rocky and it's my pleasure to help you with your problem.
    Hello,

You may use the SATA drivers from the following page for a chck:
    http://support.asus.com/download/dow..._type=25&os=30
Maybe you can update the chipset driver and check again:
    http://support.asus.com/download/dow..._type=23&os=30
If no effect, please change the hard drives and use the latest firmware available for a further check.
And according to the time interval of the previous BIOS versions, I think the new version should be updated recently. And hope you understanding.

In a nutshell "I can't give you a date, sorry"

    Can someone?

    Hey Mr.Toad

My apologies for the late reply as I've been trying to join the 4.5GHz LinX club and have NOT yet succeeded

Well anyways, good job on extracting marvell bios 1.0.0.1029.

If you check station-drivers now, they actually posted the 1.0.0.1029 bios there so you can just download it.

I reverted back to the old intel ROM and only updated the Marvell bios. Let's hope Asus doesn't flop on what they said regarding releasing updated bioses. But most likely they will cos they're known for their 'Epic Fails'

Asus Rampage III Extreme certainly needs a new BIOS.

I have incompatibility problems with my W3570 (batch 3847A696) and my i7 920 (batch 3849B018) and my Corsair Dominator Dominator GT 3x2GB kit (CMG6GX3M3A2000C8) and my GSkill Trident 3x2GB kit (F3-16000CL9T-6GBTD).

No new BIOS released since september last year. Pretty slack especially for a ROG product and 'flagship' motherboard, and especially with all the memory incompatibility cold boot issues that change when you use a gulftown compared to using a bloomfield CPU.

Asus needs to fix this asap, the R3E is becoming quite widely known as a POS for 24/7 use due to these issues especially with bloomfield CPU's (and the lack of sandforce SSD compatibility which is just unforgivable).

"Widely known" what are you on about? I'm running i7 970, with a RevoDrive X2 240gb, with GTX 580 SLI, with Dominator GT 3x2gb 2000C8 and it's 24/7 stable as a rock. I'm thinking you have a bum board. I'm running 1102 bios.

Don't try to make YOUR issues seem like the norm.

Well, I've just downloaded the BIOS for the Rampage III Extreme Black Edition (from ASUS, the link is in the
Motherboards forum, in the R3E BE subforum, funny that ) and the Intel raid is version 10.x so maybe there's still hope

I've managed to cripple the Marvell controller on my R3G experimenting with the latest firmware (2.2.0.1118) will have to reprogram using flashrom and an external programmer...

    Oh joy

Got quite the attitude for someone with 53 posts don't you? Don't make jumping to conclusions, and inappropriate uppercase use the norm. Save that for [H]ard forums or wherever else people like yourself frequent

My issue is not a bum board. Most people are aware that the R3E seems better behaved with Gulftowns as opposed to Bloomfields. There's multiple accounts of the board not even posting with certain ram kits and Bloomfield CPU's, but swap in a Gulfie and it's stable. Maybe you should read more and stop thinking and extrapolating your experience in place of actual knowledge and awareness of other people's experiences.

    Correct

Unfortunately they didn't show the same deference towards the R3G...

After all the aggro I've gone through with this board I deeply regret purchasing it. Well, I should say "them".

I've owned 5 bloomfield chips. Two 930's and three 950's. My 3x4GB Mushkin 2000MHz 10-10-10-27 kit needed 1.4875v QPI to run on the best of those chips. On the worst it needed 1.56v.

I got a 970 from retailedge and it only needs 1.3375v QPI for the same kit at 2000MHz 9-9-9-25.

Do we have any idea what's new in 1207 that 'improves system stability' ?
