It's a one of a kind to be sure. I'm not sure anyone else would be crazy enough to spend the time on the scrollwork.

    Res Cleaned up and Polished

I rounded off the front and side facing edges, pulled out the buffing wheel, and polished the res. I also cleaned and dried out the inside with a blow dryer. It has its share of flaws to be sure as anything hand made does, but overall I'm pretty pleased with the result. Here are a few impromptu pics taken on my front porch on a pillowcase.

    Thanks for stopping by.

Great job on the reservoir! Have you leak-tested it yet?

I plugged it up to my gauge and compressor as usual and kept it at 10psi for an hour. If there is a problem, at 10psi, it usually shows up pretty quickly. Its solid.

Hi Voigts. New guy in town here and this is my first post.

Just wanted to say, I am blown away by the amount of work you've put into this project, as well as the level of expertise that you possess in building everything from scratch. The woodwork and reservoir is simply amazing!

I'm looking forward to how the finishing product turns out. Thanks for sharing and keep up the awesome craftsmanship!

Thanks Coolmeister. I must admit, if I had access to the CNC easy route, I would be more tempted to use it. There is quite a bit of the scrollwork however that would be impossible to do with a CNC that can only be done by scrollsaw. CNC equipmnent is great, but it can't do everything.

    Bottom Rad Fans and Grille

I haven't gotten as much done as I would like since the last update, but I've managed to get a few things done. For whatever reason, the more I looked at the square fans on the bottom of the case for the bottom rad, the more something just didn't look right. I decided I wanted something rounded instead of just squaring off the fans. I got inspired by an idea that AnG3l used in his Sors salutis mod on Bit-tech where he cut a fan out of its chassis. Looking for something round that was about the same internal diameter as a case fan housing, I found that 4” PVC pipe couplers have a diameter almost exactly the same as a fan. I bought two couplers, and started working.

First, using a Dremel, I cut the fans out of their frames.

Using the table saw, I cut down the couplers to the same 1” height of a regular fan. I left the thicker middle area of the coupler there to give me something to glue the fans to. To get them to fit over the holes I had already drilled in the bottom of the case for the bottom rad, I sanded off an area of them both in the middle, and then glued them together with PVC pipe glue.

The assembly is screwed underneath to the bottom case plate.

I masked off where the fans contact the frame and painted them hammered black.

Using some 2 part epoxy, I glued the fans to the frame.

I used the scrollsaw and cut out a fancy grille for the bottom fan assembly. I will of course cover up the fans tags and sleeve the wires.

    Rear Fan Hole Grille

I decided that I didn't want to leave the rear fan hole plain, so I designed and cut a fancy fan grille out of 1/8” acrylic, and painted it to match the bottom fans grille in a metallic black hammered paint.

    Front Panel Trim Piece

I got the front trim piece cut out. I used a piece of wood that is already slightly cupped to help with curving it to match the curve of the front panel. I cut the piece out once, but it didn't turn out right, so I recut it and got it right the second time.

    Top Rad Mounted

I got the holes drilled and countersunk to mount the top radiator. To give it enough room to vent out of the top of the case, I have it spaced 3/8” from the top with nylon spacers.

    Some New Goodies

I got in a bunch of new parts and goodies. I was very lucky in that I caught the new MB at Directron in stock. It was the only one they had in stock, and I got it! Since it will take me a while to finish this build, I went ahead and put the new MB and CPU in my Zenith case. I also switched out the Corsair RAM for 8gb of Gskill Ripjaws.

    Thanks for stopping by.

voigts: if found few things that might add lot more spendings for this build - "Bronze Age" fitting line from BP - imho very fit finish type for such wooden builds likes this or Zenith radio build.
Haven't seen 'em yet at common LC specialty shops, so maybe first inquiry for additions to inventory should be done or one may try to buy directly from BP?

Thanks. I think the fans will really help accentuate the interior of the case with some style.

I would be all over those fittings if they were available (sold out?). They look awesome. I haven't seen them before. I wonder if they are a new line they are going to come out with.

Thanks for the feedback. I kind of didn't want to take the time to make the fan assembly as I want to get the sides done, but now that I have, I'm glad I did it. I'm really pleased with the way they have turned out.

voigts: i'm guessing - new line. Most probably you can check at that site what model number you wish to get and then mail someone at LC shop you usually buy things at, to add them to shop inventory.

You sir are a master of your craft! Everything looks amazing. Do you think the gentle typhoons will perform better in that shroud vs stock? Looks like there is less of a gap between the blades and the shrouds maybe giving it a little bit higher static pressure.

Yes! Churchy linked to those same fittings. I'm going to contact them to see if these are available and/or when.

Thank you very much! The diameter of the PVC coupler is about 1/16" larger than the stock fan frame. I don't think there will be any improvement in pressure, but I don't think that the slightly larger dia will really make a difference one way or another. This really is just for looks.

Yet another awesomely unique update! If anything, the larger gap may reduce static pressure a touch but, seeing they don't have rads on them, I really doubt you'd notice it.

Malik informed me that all you have to do is directly contact Bits Power, they have everything in stock and ready to order! Not sure why it says sold out on the site though
