So I'm wondering what bios you guys suggest as the best OCing bios here, and unlocker as I also have a 720BE.
Honestly, I tried every BIOS under 1.5 and I had the best results with OC on 1.1. I too use a 720BE. I just couldn't seem to find the same stability with the later release BIOS. Maybe its better with the 1.6-1.7x releases, I'm not sure I haven't tried them yet. I think its going to vary from machine to machine, but try 1.1 and see how your OC stability is.

maybe it's not the cpu that is having a stability issue, can you tell us more how you set it up? like make a list of your configuration?

i can make my 720 stable up till 3.9ghz, i can run some benches with 4.1, 4.0 but it is far from stable though. i use 1.5b1 since it is not giving me issues with the imc

I have a GD70 with 955 and 4 x 5850's coming for GPU crunching purposes. I hope it is as sturdy as i have heard otherwise there is not much of a choice when it comes to 4x PCIe's AM3 mobos in India.

Can 1.1 unlock? I am not on 1.6b3 and it seems the best so far, but still having stability issues.

It's the CPU I am pretty sure of now. Last night I dropped the NB/HT under 2000 and dropped the RAM to 1066 6-7-7-18 and it was still acting funny, but running. When I woke up this morning it had crashed. I had the AII 240 at 3808mhz w/ 1.440v, where as I have been running it for weeks on my DFI M2RSH at 3808mhz w/1.425v.

    My setup is
    -GD-70
    -AII 240
    -G.Skill 4GB 2000mhz Ripjaws
    -Diamond 43870x2
    -WC loop
    -950W PSU

I have now lowered it to 3500 and bumped the RAM to 1333 9-9-9-24 1T in hopes of finding stability. But I really picked this setup to break some records with, so need to get this figured out.

Wat I couldn't understand is, if I raid my CPU V first, then I got raise my CPU VDDC it actually drops my CPU V. My DFI didn't have all these settings, so I just feel it has to be something I am missing somewhere here.

Cpu V is an offset of Cpu VDD. When you raise Cpu V, it's just adding an offset of 0.01v steps to cpu vdd. When you change the Cpu vdd, cpu v will reflect the number of offset steps you applied earlier.

So they do the samething? I don't completely understand why 2 things would do the exact samething.

Also whats everyones luck with the NB's on thse things, I'm getting failures even at 2500mhz which is also very disappointing as I was running 2750 on my DFI M2RSH.

Well some more testing and I even got failures with NB at 2250mhz.... I had the CPU-NB VDD set at 1.375v and the NB v set at 1.24v. So any tips here, what exactly is the difference between CPU-NB VDDC and CPU-NB voltage. And how to use either of those with NB voltage. I have the RAM all squared away, once I can tame this NB then the CPU will be getting it. I already had the CPU running at 3.8 without issue and even sneaked into windows at 4,130mhz on 64bit Win 7. Got 32 Win 7 all setup, so get this NB figured out then gonna be ready to break some personal records and maybe some on Hwbot.org.

I have a very similar if not the same question as kurgan. what is the difference between regular core voltage and vdd?

I see some of the more seasoned OC's on this site using VDD but i can't find a tutorial or a guide explaining how vdd works. any help would be awesome

I have, the instant I got the mobo hooked up I was using 1.7b3, had issues and went to 1.6b3, but NB still is flat out impossible to get stable and its making me angry. I want to see a high NB OC here, I'm just not seeing the point in my upgrade so far as my DFI M2RSH OC'd everything better so far :/ Really wondering about all those NB voltages, maybe if someone can explain those, or make a guide on how to max out your NB clocks, then I could be happy.

with regards to nb, i think there's a problem with the newer bios clocking them higher with the 720BE because i am also experiencing the same problem. i can't clock the nb higher than 2600mhz from 1.5b7 but with 1.5b1 i can clock it up to 3000mhz
Hello. Is your problem similar to mine perhaps?
    http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=236884

I can't post above 2520mhz, no matter what I do, I can't do the "press reset 3 times trick" to atleast get into BIOS. Clear CMOS ftw and I loose all my tweaking -.-

But once booted I have no issue pushing NB above 3000mhz (with the help of HT Ref.) and bench

Have only tried 1.6b3 and 1.7b5 same issue on both, guess i am gonna try 1.5b1 or something instead and see if it changes my problems...

I have few questions guys, please help. I'm currently using the 1.5 official BIOS with X2 550. When I tried to unlock the CPU using "special" and "Auto", my system won't boot at all, even when I set the voltage to 1.4V. Can the official 1.5 BIOS unlock the dual core or do I just have a bad CPU?

I also had a bad flash going from 1.3 to 1.5 using M-Flash, the flash was successful according to M-Flash but the board won't boot anymore after that. I had to send the board back to MSI for reflash so now I'm afraid to play around with the BIOS again especially when the BIOS is a beta version. How did you guys flash your boards and how many of you came across a bad flash on this board?

I am afraid your x2 550BE won't unlock... Shame to hear about your board, almost broke my BIOS once aswell (BIOS locked up all of a sudden) but luckily for me a Clear CMOS was enough..

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm just using the X2 550 for a short while, I'm actually waiting for either the X4 965 C3 or Thuban. Btw, how did you flash your BIOS? Also using M-Flash and an USB stick?

I just used the MSi USB installer and it's a new version. Real nice and safer way to change Bios. It has to be one of the best chioces to change Bios, yea you can do it other ways but this has to be the least problematic way to go. I can't count how many released and beta bios I have done with MSI's USB tool but never a failure.

Anyone that wants to reveal their NB clocking secrets here? Still lost as to what to do on this board with it, nothing seems to be stable, I'm sure someone out there has OC'd the NB, it does provide gains on PII's.

Try playing with the NB v, those help stabilise CPU NB sometimes.

Also on a different note: Would including good looking and well performing monitoring software out of the box hurt MSI. The software that comes with this board just sucks...the green power thingi and the oc center are both so outdated its not even funny.

Now if MSI can make afterburner, with a little help from others, I am sure they can make better monitoring software for this board. I like what Evga does and even the Asus software is better, though it looks like crap. The OC center does not even report the right OC's.

It took me a few days to kind of figure out which sensor was where on the board and was really worried about one, before I realised that the thing was showing hot due to it taking temps from the area around the second 16x slot which i use for my video card. Please MSI realise some good software for this board.

OK guys, n00b needs a help

I'm having problems with stability, even without any OC. I flashed bios via M-Flash to 1.6b3, but it didn't changed anything regarding stability. System crashes with no worning, BSODs from W7x64, freezes sometimes as well. It is not a matter of cooling cause BIOS shows cpu temp <25*C.
Another thing with RAM sticks. I got OCZ gold edition 1333 (9-9-9-20) and I know that it will suck, but BIOS cannot recognise it as 1333 + timings. It shows as 1066 7-7-7-16.
Next thing is that I have no access to voltages (CPU, memory etc.). All options are grey with no possibility of changing anything. What i'm doing wrong?

    (CPU is 720BE)

your probably not doing anything wrong, its the bios causing problems......anything after 1.5b1 locks up on me using stock settings, and half the time it cant even post once the bios tries to initialize the cpu.......

so for me, im not upgrading my bios past 1.5b1, every single one after that release does the same thing

    using a 720be also btw
