Could it be that the Feser was mixed with water?

It can be made by boiling a suspension of Cu(OH)2 in water. Though this proces Cu(OH)2 looses water and turn black CuO



So the reaction took place only in the CPU-block because it was heated constantly during crunching as you wrote
