Dual Case Loop - Project Blue Orbit

This is a new project called Blue Orbit. The idea is to create a dual loop for CPU (NB,SB,Mosfets) and CrossFire HD4870x2. The PC case hosting the HW and one more case made of plexiglass where the pumps, radiators and fans will work to provide the cooling.
Blue Orbit is the name for this case. And Yes there will be few blue mods to it.

    System specs:
    [Asus MaXiMus Formula SE]
    [QX6700@3600]
    [PowerColor HD4870X2 2GB GDDR5][EK-FC4870 X2 - Acetal CF]
[D-TEK FuZion CPU with Quad Nozzle]
    [ThermoChill PA120.3]
[Laing DDC-1T-PLUS with Alphacool Laing DDC Pro/Ultra top]
[XSPC Dual 5.25" Bay Reservoir for Dual Laing DDC]
    [MIPS MCH034 Northbridge MCH003 Southbridge MCH150 Mosfet ]

[Stacker 832] + lots of plexi

The design is based on 3 levels. 2 levels for the watercooling, 1 level for tubing and the pumps, reservoir.
Connecting the two cases together will be done using Bulkhead Quick Release Compression Couplers.

Here is a picture of how the design looks like

    By neo_rtr at 2010-01-24

    Note about the PA 120.3
I have the new one with 15mm spacing as well the old one with 24.5 spacing

This is why you will see there is a difference with the holes.

Working the acrylic was lots of fun and had to learn along the way
Several mistakes later i come up with this

Iam waiting for parts to arrive so it will take a week or two before i can update the page. But this is a start.

Great start, and nice project, neo.

(Moved it to the liquid cooling work log section, so we can track your updates).

I am going to use an external PSU seperate from the PC. So with that will power up the fans, ligts, pumps.
It will give 12V about 8amps.

By neo_rtr, shot with Canon EOS 450D at 2010-01-26

I will sleeve the 3 fans to one molex

By neo_rtr, shot with Canon EOS 450D at 2010-01-26

Then i will solder the cables for better conductivity

Some more work and the result

To put on the TFC Noise absorbers was not an easy task.
Apparently it comes so close to each fun so the 15mm spacing on the PA.120.3 was almost impossible. Have to admit that i cut a small piece.

So it looked something like that

Starting with the tubes. One common reservoir. Two pumps. Two rads,
    Starting with the 1st one

I most like the empty glass of wine on your desk That means a lot
But seriously man give us your temps - which im sure with this construction will be ridiculously low. You tent to be the master of watercooling

Very interesting build. Like the use of the orange fans and blue tubing - but most importantly, looks like you've met your performance goals. Love it when people do scratch builds.

A hint on your sleeving - I find it helps to take the heat shrink farther up - actually onto the pin just below the little flanges. This way the heat shrink goes all the way into the connector (note, this can vary with the thickness of different heatshrinks).

Sorry, I've been too busy taking notes and ideas from this.

I need to have my rads and pumps housed externally as well.

What did you use to cut the plexi?

Dont have a circular saw. I used a normal one (by hand) but it was taking for ever so i got variable-speed jigsaw (speed was on the 2 level out of 8 i believe) very slow.. a bit more faster and it melts the plexi.
What i should have done is to cut it with a 45% angle as it helps when using the glue.
The blade is one fine point one. (small gap, teeth). get uncoated ones. mine where coated causing the paint to come off and create more friction.

Well, I'll look into that, thank you.

But, now that I know of the angles and melting, I may seek a hole-saw. What glue did you use and why? What seal had to be made?

The seal dont have to be 100% as there is not very important.

I used a 2 compound epoxy type glue. Not sure if it was the "correct one" but worked out okey.
My problem was applying the glue to the suface. Probably a pencil or syringe methoed is better. Also the sides of the material need support so you get 90degrees when attaching each side.
check http://www.clearpc.ca/ to get ideas of the various parts you may need.

    PS
I did try to have a shop cutting the plexi but the price tag was to high.

Need some advise. I am having a two pump - 1 XSPC bay. Iam not sure about the flow/pressure. I just think its lower than expected. The tech specs for the pumps are within parameters (tube length). But overall it might be the long tubes. I figure under 2m all together.
Any thoughts about that? For example the crossfire has 2x90degree . 2x45 degree fittings. 1x PA120.3

Mod on the external PSU. I was having 1 "rail" 12V. The thing is that was dropping about 1,4-1,6V at the pumps.
So remember that it was a 5pin Din adapter in the beginning.
I took 2 of the other cables and added a second molex to them so
Now i have 1 light-> 3x Fans ->3xFans->1 cold cathode Uv lamp on the 1st rail
and the 2x punps on the second rail where i have 11.85V

I would like to use a Bulgin Style "Latching" Vandal 5 pol Switch to control the 12V rail from the PSU to my watercooled pumps.
I cant figure out how to connect the wiring.
Lets say i have a molex connector 12V + with two cables 12v/Grd
i would like to install the switch in between so i can power On and Off the pump

in effect i want to do this

    http://www.frozencpu.com/products/im...e_Harness.html

    I have all the parts.
Question is how the wiring is done

    To answer my own question
    Found this image

By connecting the Bulgin Style Latching Vandal switch to the
NC (red cable) Com (black cable) directly from the 12V molex in effect was shutting the circuit
New remember i get two 12V rails from this PSU. So to my surprise i was able to control both of them. Which i do now. Also connected the two + / - from the other 12v rail to get the light on the switch and dada!
Minor side effect is that since i have already a power on switch that i must turn /on/off as well. if not will blink indicating that somethings is wrong. That it self turn to be a good thing as other than i do use the PC
