    Flash is extremely recommended even if your shooting in broad daylight, flash freezes the motion of the drop and gives great details on it, thus continuous shooting wont be possible with flash.. I will be writing a tutorial on it and about the timings in a couple of days, will start of tomorrow.

    Thanks Max.
    Sorry, I don't have any pictures of the box itself, but it consists of a 10" x 10" box made from a 20" x 30" x 3/8" thick foam board (the stuff used for presentation displays). I then made a box with five sides, by taping them together and then I made a 4" x 4" opening in the top side and taped some tissue/tracing paper under it, allowing my 100w light to be dropped in and get diffused.

    ISO Speed Ratings = 200
    Original Date/Time = 2009:05:03 05:53:23

    Flash = Flash did not fire, compulsory flash mode

    I tried taking a water drop photo for the first time today, I'll try harder next time but I'm happy I even got this result. I wanna take some of the water drop pictures I saw earlier in this thread, they were awesome.

    Exposure Time= 1/320 second
    Lens F-Stop = F2.7
    ISO = 400
    Original Date = 2009:05:03
    Exposure Bias (EV) = 0
    Flash = none

    And here is a really pretty picture

    Camera Model - Sony Cybershot DSC-H50
    Exposure Time= 1/15 second
    Lens F-Stop = F2.7
    ISO = 100
    Original Date = 2009:05:03
    Exposure Bias (EV) = 0
    Flash = none

    Are these pictures too big?

    For the drop picture, try to reduce the ISO. The picture is too noisy to be beautiful. Also, try to make it lower exposure. You can't capture the moment with a high exposure. Flash maybe?

    i gotta admit it is very noisy considering you used 100....very odd, its a nice picture, i quite like the motion in the water-drops maybe next time, use a better background, the mess in the background detracts from what you are trying to capture...other than that its a very nice first try!!

    Both of your comments on my picture are spot on!

    But I made a mistake, that is not the iso I used for my photo, that is what I used for my pretty eye photo :P For some reason I forgot to add what I took the first photo at! omg! Let me edit my original post.

    But your right, so next time:
    Cleaner background
    Flash
    I'll try to get more light
    lowest iso I can get, I am thinking maybe 100, possibly 80.
    and maybe 1/500 next time?

    And I fixed my original post, thanks for the suggestions!!

    ANP, i have a question regarding your water drop picture taking technique

    This may be really nooby and I don't know any better but...
    Do you take the shots in a continuous mode were you hold down the button and it keeps shooting so that you can shift through the shots when your done?
    Or are you godlike and you only press the button once and capture the impact on the water, just by timing it right (with a flash)?

    Because my camera, that I am hating more and more as I learn more about it, only lets you use flash when you take shots in single shot mode, and from what I understand flash is almost essential for taking water drop shots.

    Please share your expertise with this nub

    Flash is highly recommended for shooting droplets indoor or even in full light, it freezes the motion, gives a great lightning effect and lights up the patterns, thus, I only had to practice a while with the timings then I got it right, I would release the drop with left hand and trigger the shutter with a remote. Although am not expert in it, it was my first trial. Since you cant use continuous with flash, I had to rely on my timings for the shot.

    I wrote a tutorial about droplets with pics, will post tomorrow.

    Who says your camera sucks?! I got the little brother of H50 - the DSC-H10. And I'm definitely McLovin it

    Well, I didn't have time recently for taking pictures (CST testing! And yes I'm only an 8th grader.)
    I hope I can spare some time on Thursday for some water drop shots.
    ANP, any quick tips for water drops?

    BTW, this one is taken last week. Enjoy. And please, I'm just a noob, suggestion will be appreciated

    It's just a lil' flower. I don't have a clue what it is. Doesn't that look chaotic?

    Ah, it doesn't suck. But a few little things get me pissed off about it. If I hadn't been in such a rush to get a camera I would of researched more and have gotten something else (Originally I meant to get a certain Panasonic camera, but it got sold out and I needed a camera quick.)

    1. Only jpegs, no raw... annoying.
    2. The nazi flash settings on it.
    3. Battery life isn't the best.

    But It does take very good pictures. Eventually I hope to get a better camera, but this one is fine for me while I'm still getting into photography.
