So, after Blend and small FFT was stable in prime for 1-2 hours I decided to try 8.5 multi and bumped vcore. Primed again on small FFT and no errors but blend would eather error or bsod between 1-10 minutes. I tried various MCH voltage and vtt as well as MCH reference and can't get it stop bsoding or erroring. Must be the extra CPU speed causing something. Any ideas? I also tried 50-100ps CPU clock skew.

i've finally been able to make 24/7 stable overclock of my e8400 @4ghz with bios f9 on my ud3p, but i can tell you it's a nightmare to get it stable if you don't have some really good ram kits. I have 2 x 2 gb ocz reaper hpc pc8500 and they sure gave me a real headache on this board.

The cpu and mch reference voltages don't read correct in et6 one you raise the vtt.
    Nice overclock on that 8400.

Thanks, and I'm trying to go for 4.5ghz 24/7 and I know the CPU and board can do it, but it's gonna take some tweaking to get there...

Also about those references too...I don't make changes based of ET anyways I just use it for temps and fan control but once and a while I have a peak at it

Raise your mch reference up 4 steps, should show .800 in ET6 or about .850 in bios if vvt is set to 1.28. Also if your going to stay with 1:1 use the 400 2.00D strap, it should allow you to drop down another PL.

I did all that and couldn't get past the loading screen until I lowered MCH reference to 7.20 (at 1.20 VTT)

But yeah, I'm at 400 strap and at 2.00D with same voltages and just the changed mch reference above and currently priming in blend mode, and it's gone a bit further that it has before at 333 strap...still feels unstable though (sluggish)

edit: Okay just got a bsod after 15 minutes in blend...ill try more settings....keep em ideas coming

    - mch core is a bit high, but i tried upping vcore and vtt and lowering mch core, but that didnt work

now, i want to try to get get 500mhz.
    - any setting i do at 500, it freezes
    - i've tried upping everything except mhc core
    - i've also played around the skews but that makes everything unstable

    any ideas for 500mhz?

An FYI....Kingston has a sale on HyperX memory...

    http://shop.kingston.com/hyperx1/default.asp

    $76 for 2x1GB DDR2-1200 (PC2-9600) memory.
$77 for DDR2-1150, but Newegg has those for $59.99.
I wonder if the DDR2-1150 from Newegg is worth it and if they will run @ 1200 MHz??

Has anyone tried the 266 strap with 2.50A dividers at 489fsb? Is it possible to run PL 8 with this setup? Can someone post a stable template for 489x9?

I read a few pages back that 2gb dimms (g.skill 9600) have problems with the mch going above 1.44v at the 333 strap with 2.4B. Has this been resolved yet?

For the life of me I cannot seem to get 489x9 stable with the 266 strap and 2.5A regardless of changing the refs and voltages.

I haven't had much luck with OCZ in the last couple years. Plus the Kingston will fit under my Dominator fan. I'm shooting for 8.5x500-515 with 2.4B mem multi. While I'm at it I will be replacing my thermal paste with AS5 and the fan on my Zen FZ120 with a 75 CFM Scythe. Good luck and let us know what you come up with.

Will do, havent used OCZ since ddr400. Got my Dominator 1066's to do 1200, they have been good but don't want to burn them up. For $49.00 thought it was worth a try. Got my q9550 to 500x8.5 333 240b. When I figure out how Ill post a Screeny lol.

At the moment i'm testing FSB 490 - 506 range and running with 266 strap and 2.50A divider so that my 2x2GB OCZ Flex PC9200 is running 1233 - 1250Mhz.

For that to accomplisch my ram must be running with 6-5-5-15 and 2.14v
CL 5 is a nogo with this kit at those timings and voltage is below 2.18v.

PL is still at level 9, but after succesfully testing 1225 - 1266MHz last night, i'll begin testing it with PL 8.

But all of this was only doable after setting some subtimigs just right. Before I found the 'magic combo', I was experiencing the same instability as you describe. I tried everything obvious like changing voltages, ref's and dividers, and almost had given up on it. Then I started changing subtimings...

    This is what I'm using for 1225 to 1250MHz and 6-5-5-15 @ 2.14v

    All Precharge to Activate..................6 ( 7 if tRP is 6 )
    Refrecsh Cycle Time (tRFC) ............56
    Write to Percharge delayed ............18
Write to read Delayed (tWTR)......... 14
    Act tot Act Delayed (tRRD)..............6
    Read toWrite Delay (tRD_WR)..........10
All Precharge to Refresh Delay .........6 ( 7 if tRP is 6

Now,if one in bold is off , then LinX will error immediately. i don't know what the hell is going on, but perhaps it has something to do with the fact that there have been issues with OCZ kits and this board.
Anyways, finding the correct settings seems to have resolved the issue for me.

Oh, one more thing. i'm running with my Flex modules installed in the red slots (slots 2 and 4), it seems to help a bit. I'm able to boot with 2.40B divider (5:6) and MCH set to 1.40v
But i've found that my modules runs alot more stable using the 266 stap and 250A divider (4:5), in other words; 1250Mhz with 2.50A divider is (far) more stable than 1200MHz and 2.40B divider on my system.

Anyone? I can't seem to get 500 x 8.5 no matter what I do. Prime 95 Small FFT is fine but Blend most of the time will just cause a bsod (says uncorrectable hardware something), and rarely will error. It will error if I leave the MCH reference at .76 (1.20 VTT) and any lower reference will cause a BSOD after 10 minutes of blend. have tried a bit of clock skew but not a lot. im using f8 bios

I agree with you that it seems that 2.50A is more stable, that's why I've been trying. Can't wait to see your results with PL 8. Can you also please share the rest of your template atm? I will try again with the G.Skill 9600 this weekend.

Just a general q, if the system freezes on prime what's the most likely cause? I've read that you have to raise the VTT, but I've tried all the way up to 1.42 with different combos of refs.

Seems like your VTT is low and MCH/DRAM ref is a little bit off.

I would stick with the ref's you used for a lower stable oc and raise your VTT a notch or 2 to see if it helps. I'm not sure about C2D's, but on the C2Q, I only needed 1.3.

As for the MCH/DRAM ref, you may want to try 1.08, jo3r mentioned that it should be 1 notch above 1/2 of vdram.

But I'm running into problems when upping the multi to 9x for 4446MHz
Then all of a sudden LinX will error in 7th or 8th run.
I don't understand, at 4200Mhz (8.5x494) these settings are rock solid, but at 4446MHz (9x494) I just can't get it to run without error. Upping vCore does not help. Prime Blend or Large FFT fails after 20 to 30 minutes. Is running with a higher CPU clockspeeds compromising RAM/NB stability somehow?

I agree with you that it seems that 2.50A is more stable, that's why I've been trying. Can't wait to see your results with PL 8. Can you also please share the rest of your template atm? I will try again with the G.Skill 9600 this weekend.

Just a general q, if the system freezes on prime what's the most likely cause? I've read that you have to raise the VTT, but I've tried all the way up to 1.42 with different combos of refs.
I succeeded in running PL8 last night. These are my settings for 8.5x494 which are Prime and LinX stable.
