Just received my Asus Rampage Extreme for some LGA775 action, but noticed the mosfet heatsink on the top side between the cpu fan header and 8pin ATX power connector is slight raised on the outer edge so that the outer edge of the mosfet heatsink doesn't touch the board.

I installed an OCZ Vendetta 2 heatsink with push pins for quick air testing before phase change, and when Vendetta 2 is installed that out edge mosfet heatsink in question bows a bit more so centre of heatsink lifts up even more off the motherboard.

    Is this normal ?

I wouldn't call it "normal" but when I took my board out of the box it was like a twisted frisbee. Hardly any of the heat sinks made contact at all. I was really worried that some of the traces might be compromised. On a flat surface it looked terrible. Quite a few pages back in this thread are the discussions concerning the whole heat pipe arrangement of the board and peoples dis-satisfaction with it. I've resorted to taking the entire heat sink assembly off and using after market WB, etc. I've fixed it down with stand offs to my bench rig and it works flawlessly. Hope I answered your question, & this board in your hands should allow for some sIcK FSB action. Looking forward to your results!!

Hey guys im planning to buy this m/b but i have a question: i have a pair of CSX 2x2Gb that have Micron D9GTR...How does this m/b reacts with Micron Chips? Does anyone have ram with this chips to tell me his experience on this m/b? Right now i have P5E64 Evolution with Q9650@4.4Ghz, but Evo is going crazy when i set the ram frequency further than 1800mhz, i dont know why, i've tried everything, skews, straps, subtimings no luck...

thanks ran with it anyway and NB temps don't go above 45-50C heh

first day ever with Rampage Extreme myself using 2x1GB Gskill PC3-12800HZ Micron D9JNM modules. Been so long I can't even recall how my DDR3 memory scaled voltage wise on X48 DDR3 hehe

Managed to max validate on OCZ Vendetta 2 air @625FSB with stock Fusion NB block in place air cooled with:

    FSB at 1.39166v
    NB at 1.61697v
    VDIMM 1.94831v
    CPU PLL 1.51106v

Much better and easier to achieve than on any other board I've tried

Confused about the DRAM Clock skews as to when to use them and for what memory/situations do I advance or delay the skews ??

Haven't been able to hit passed DDR3-1880-1900Mhz mem frequency with either my Gskill PC3-12800HZ Samsung HCF0 or Micron D9JNM based modules yet with 1003 bios. Any tips ?

Sweet Thanks a lot, the board is coming this week so i'll post the results.

About skews, i believe that its good to use them above 1800... Delay/Advance, depends on m/b, for example Evo provides more stability with Advance... I dont know yet about RE, i'll post once i'll get her running Try playing only with skews, first advance and then delay, if you have the dimms on A2/B2 slots, tune only CLK's A2/B2..

hi eva2000 these aren't the voltages i used for 593x8.5 as they were set to allow 1.55+ vCore. my settings for 600x7.5 / 5:8 should give a better reference.

    some other info (2x1GB CL7 + 45nm dual core):

    vNB scaling on 5:8:

    500FSB/5:8/800mhz/tRD8/CTmod = 1.25V vNB
    563FSB/5:8/900mhz/tRD8/CTmod = 1.48V vNB full Blend/Custom FFT stable etc
    600FSB/5:8/960mhz/tRD8/CTmod = ~ 1.63V vNB 2Hour+ Blend stable (not tested further)

563-600FSB/5:8...vTT scaling = ~ 0.25-0.3V below vNB, and NBGTL Auto

to avoid 32M errors / other instability set PLL+SB1.5V @ 0.04v (min) < vNB, or = vNB, or > vNB

NB+A/B DDRrefs not needed at 563/5:8, but find some windows startup problems nearer 600FSB without all set @ +12.5mv (same @ 500FSB / 1:2)

Auto skews pretty good imho.. (0403 BIOS). the only DRAM skews i found useful previously were CTL A2 Del 100, CTL B2 Del 75, mainly used with Transcend samsung. also back on Auto for CPU/NB skews.

i ran HCF0 and D9JNL but now on GTR - difference is big + very easy to clock with stability. JNL was a lot better than samsung, but timings and voltage response still too limiting for the board.

    600x7.5 / 5:8 / CL7 / tRD8 / CT mod (13.xGB/s Read / 39.x ns with auto subs (tRFC88)

My Cellshock Blacks like all ram skews on auto but the CSX Diablo 2X2 (GTS) 2000 kit preferred
DRAM CLK SKEW ON DIMM A2 +250
DRAM CLK SKEW ON DIMM B2 +250

    This was with

    DDR3 CHANNEL A VREF ========================+25

I've tried a lot of the suggested CPU & NB skews but for my board the best was
    CPU CLOCK SKEW =============================AUTO
    NB CLOCK SKEW ==============================NORMAL

    Hope this helps

Hey guys, which BIOS shows more stability? Tried 1003 but I keep getting the error message "The CPU Core to Bus ratio or VID configuration has failed" after completely powering off. Went back to 0403 as this seems to be the only one that I don't get this error message. Anyways, my NB is borked, always starts at 73c to 75c, all in default settings.

Edit: Spoke too soon, it also gives that error when using a QX9650, but not on a E8600..

This is one insanely intensive thread ! I cant wait to get this board in a couple days, and there is such a wealth of info on everything!! Excellent initial oc report god almost a year ago .. I just started a thread based on a question somewhat related to this board and DDR3 mem... Could I buy a triple kit of ddr3 ram and just not use the 3rd module? I was looking at a couple pkgs and most likely will just go with mushkin 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory kit it seems to have the lowest timings of the 2x2 competition, but then again Ive heard that the timings on ddr3 are nothing like that of ddr2 which doesn't make any sense but I always thought lower was better?? Well Im just glad I found this thread and know that most of my answers are probably right here in this behemoth

I was willing to do some Super Pi 8M on C2D cpu at arround 4,5Ghz these last days, both NB and CPU under water. With my mem's that need way too much volties, I can't achieve 500x9 ram frequency @ 1Ghz sexy cas7
nore that I can reach 643fsb to finally boot to Windows under those cooling conditions(water arround 23°C -> 38°C burn for the NB@ 1.70v).

The only hardware setup that makes it regularily ok is 600x7,5.

    I think 500x9 with mem's@1Ghz strap266 PL6 would score better but it's a generous "NOT EXACT... so I'm OUNeD"

Here is my best result so far:

    596 PL6 strap333 boot. OS XP sp3 strongly lightened.

    Nice work!
Have you tried out messing with skews? Also i see 5:8, try another strap, and 1:2 if it is possible, it will gets you closer to 2k mhz..Turn it to 2T in order to achieve more mhz on mem's

I didn't tried 2T CR, I'll try that right away, but don't wan't to place too much hope on 1:2 divider...mem's need way too much volts

Can't get to pass the 8th loop with 500x9 1:2

About skews, on ddr: I only set delays 50 on DRAM CMD Skew Channel A
    on NB and CPU auto.

Try out NB and CPU skews around 100ps or 200ps or more to see how it reacts, most of the times nb/cpu skews gives more stability and helps a lot the NB. Also in what slots you have your mem's? I read in this thread, some pages back, that the A2/B2 is better for o/c... Basically this is common for the most of m/b's because A2/B2 is a little far from NB in contrast with A1/B1...
As for the mem's skews, try playing with CLK's on A2/B2, adding 50 each time, and see reactions, again...
    Good Luck!

    some other info (2x1GB CL7 + 45nm dual core):

    vNB scaling on 5:8:

JNL was a lot better than samsung, but timings and voltage response still too limiting for the board.

thanks to your your tips I managed to pull off one tRD lower at 8 up to around 563fsb 5:8 tRD 8 with 900mhz 7-7-7-18 but needed around NB volts of 1.63-1.65v and vdimm around 1.93v.

What helped get me past memtest86+ test #3, #4 and #7 loop stability was NB GTL VREF and DDR VREF of +30mv and +12.5mv respectively with CPU Skew of 300ps. Difference was huge compared to not even being able too boot at 501FSB 808mhz 7-7-7-18 tRD 8 without these adjustments.

But can't seem to get past >563FSB 5:8 with tRD 8 with D9JNM at 7-7-7-18/21 while trying to keep NB volts <1.65v (NB temps in bios around 55-61C).

    BTW, what is CTMod ??

Probably he means Ai Clock Twister Moderate.

By the way nice OC for that short time you have had that board but then again you´re not new to OC.

Have read a lot at i4memory.com forums, you have some nice posts there.

Got my board did a clean install of vista 64 and I am stoked!!
This thing is @4.2Ghz and on my first try This board is insanley stable much much better tha the x38 gigabyte dq6 or the maximus formula. granted they were ddr2 systems and this is a ddr3 but i couldnt get the cpu to go stable over 3.95ghz PERIOD!
To be running 4.2 and occt stable on the 1st try I wasn't expecting but it is awesome!!! I think I need to tweak my Bios a bit to get the CPU temps down yet still stable. Running latest bios settings are as follows...

If anyone wants to throw a suggestion on my settings to bring down my temps and keep it stable that be cool Im just gonna try lowering the vcore slightly and see how it goes

    @eva2000

sorry if this is a bit late and cheers for the nice feedback

just wondering about vNB for 563FSB/tRD8.. i tested orthos again tonight with 7.5 multi + GTR, using same settings i used with JNL IC - vNB 1.48V set (LCD/everest idle 1.47V, load 1.45-1.46V). 32M still ok at lower vNB (including @ 8/8.5 multis).

same as JNL, i can pass custom 4096k test at 1.20V vTT but fails IBT inside 10x. will only pass IBT > 10x and 4096K @ 1.259V vTT.

    563x7.5 / 5:8 / tRD8 / CTmod / 7-6-5-15 tRFC 60 / vNB 1.48V set

    orthos blend>custom>4096-4096k priority 10: 2hours (approx cstkl1's test)

And then there was one. I still have my other RE but I gave up on my first and got the Egg to refund my money, it's on its way to cali and I am taking a fifty dollar restocking loss. It took out two cores onna Q9650 back in october and after RMA to asus it blue screened on the first go at installing the OS. Asus tech said it was my hardware but I RMA'd again, funny thing is the same hardware is in this RE as I am typing now at 4.32GHz for like two months now w/ out a problem.

So it goes crazy volts again as soon as I boot up so my loss. I am thinking of using the refund on some newer memory and like quattro asked what 2x2gb at 1800mhz or 2000mhz is giving good results with this board.

Funny, yesterday morning my wife hands me the phone and it is ASUS calling me to see how I am getting on with the board and something about vDroop and BIOS's. We talk for like a half hour but no gift certificates or stepups were offered. I wonder if ASUS calls other people to see how RMA's went.
