I overclocked my Q6600 to 3.0ghz, the temp is just fine maz of 39C with only air cooling. I ran OCCT after 10 mins, it detailed that core#1 occured an error. What would that imply?

    Specs:
    Intel Q6600 @3.0 ghz
    Gigabyte EP45-UD3R
    Corsair Dominator 2x1gb 1066mhz
    Palit GTX260 Sonic
    Silverstone DA750
    WD Raptor 74GB
    WD Caviar Black 640GB

What worked for me more than anything was to set cpu termination to 1.2 then raise cpu reference and mch reference up 1 notch. After that raise the cpu termination as needed but leaving the reference voltages alone, they will increase as you raise the cpu termination. I was able to get 3.7 prime stable on stock vcore, 1.2 cpu termination .785 cpu ref. .80 mch ref., 1.24 mch. 333 strap 5:6 devider on the ram. See how high you can go on stock vcore then raise voltages as needed from that point.

these are my current voltage settings for 4.0 prime stable no LLC.
    Hope that made sense.
    this really helped

I guess it’s time for me to go beyond stock , is this a good starting point template for a Q9550@3.4 guys?

Write Training improves your RAM performance. Sometimes disabling this will make your system stable but also sometimes it can give you such a great improvement that your better off raising your "Static T-Read" value one notch and leaving write training enabled. When you get your system stable you can play around with the RAM more(this is what I am doing now), I usually start off with a high T-Read like 10 or 11 and disabled write training, once that passes I start lowering the T-Read to it's lowest boot able level and then once that passes I try enabling write training.

Is anyone running a watercooled rig with the UD3-series?

I'm wondering what the better NB block would be and what possibly problems might occur.

    Any input is much appreciated.

If it gets too hard or expensive I might just stick with a EP45-Extreme.

EDIT: I had e-mail correspondence with someone who owns a UD3P and he claims NB watercooling isn't necessary since the block is cool to the touch and he's running 500FSB+ on a Quad.

does the UD3P and UD3R have a CMOS switch/jumper that's easy to access in the back port?

absolutely not! You gotta shove a screwdriver in between the pins to short them out. OR; you could get a jumper to close the pins. Which; by the way,
doesn't come with the board. Although 'everyone has a lotta jumpers, im sure'.
Kinda crappy really; but I have only had to reset my bios once so far, so.....
    good in that respect.

I wouldn't consider a cmos clear jumper placed in the back i/o panel easy to get to, but no it doesn't have one. Gotta pull the battery (which is under the first video card) or put a jumper on the two pins at the bottom right of the board

Hello, finally plugged in my Q9650 into this board this week and got around to 4.302 24/7 stable at vcore of 1.344.

    Proof.

Does anybody have a link for a guide on what to do with Cpu Clock Skew and Mch Clock skew?

I read about those two settings in another forum a while back and that if properly tuned they allow you to get away with lower vcore for stability. Ofcourse back then I had a Q6600 and was more concerned with temps so I didn't pay attention to it but now that I've got a Q9650 I am wondering what to do with those two settings.

    Thanks in advance.

With this board I am so new I can not answer for sure, my guess would be no. Auto setting usually lets the board decide the setting and if the board determines that disabled is the most stable then that is what you will get on auto. I noticed that when set to auto on my current setting it is the same thing as enabled. Somebody with more knowledge about this board would know for sure.

I have a feeling that the RAM speed, voltage, and trimming are all messed up , but frankly don’t have the knowledge to judge or decide anything here (googling & reading atm), I tried different settings in the “DRAM Performance Control”, if I set MCH Frequency Latch to 300 it only gives me 2.00D as an option, 400 opens 2.00B, tried both and didn’t notice any difference.
If I set the “System Memory Multiplier” to auto, the number in the “Memory Frequency” goes from 1066…800 to 1066….1280 but was afraid to save and apply this
I did something else that made the memory speed 533 (in cpu-z)and something else that made the trimmings 5-5-5-15 (in cpu-z)

btw, even if I enable the “CPU EIST Function” the CPU multi is still fixed @ 8.5 and the speed is fixed @ 3400 ?!

For 3.4ghz you might need more then 1.18 vcore, try running at a voltage nearer to your VID at first and then lower it if you can. Remember with Load Line enabled you are going to notice about a 0.03v drop from your bios setting in CPUZ, so if your target voltage is 1.25 you need 1.28 set in bios. I am not good enough at setting reference voltages but since you are only trying for a 425FSB overclock you should not be raising your Termination and MCH core levels high enough that the auto setting will hold your stability back to much and one of the better OC guys can help you set your reference volts later. You might end up needing slightly higher Termination and MCH levels, I am new to this board but I am sure this will start you in the right direction. I never use any of the Advanced BIOS crap like Virtualization/Thermal Monitor/No-Execute since this can cause stability problems, especially turn off Virtualization unless you actually use it to run Virtual OS's. Also, with your RAM being a 2x2gb 1066mhz kit I would use the 2.4B setting to get a bit closer to your standard ram speed(example is 425fsb x 2.4b = 1020mhz RAM speed). If you can, use the Ram multi's that are attached to the 333mhz and 400mhz latch but other latches can be used as well depending on what RAM speed you are aiming for. Also make sure you set your Ram voltage to specs, I am assuming the spec for your kit is 2.1v and the 1.050 reference for that voltage is good.

EDIT: I changed your overclock from 8.5x400 to 8x425 since this board can easily handle 425FSB. With 425FSB you should get much better RAM performance then with the 400FSB you were aiming for. Your perfect Vcore could be lower then what I put in the code but since I do not know your VID or if you have passed a small ftt run at 1.8vcore I changed it to 1.28(~1.25 in reality) just to get you started. If for some reason the 2.4B multi does not boot due to the bug associated with it you can try 2.5A for 1062mhz RAM.

well I initially set the vcore @ 1.28 then started lowering it till 1.1875 (nothing less worked) and passed about 20 minutes prime95 (the one in the screenshot), I don't really know how else to determine what’s best since all seemed to handle prime95 fine unless 20 minutes is too short, I also tried to follow what OC Nub mentioned in his post

I forgot to disable Virtualization, don't really care about Thermal Monitor (CPU overheating thingy) and No-Execute (buffer overflow attacks thingy) but saw some templates with both enabled and said why not

I saw the 2.4 settings but didn't try it, will test it today (found good info here)

    yes spec is 2.1

I’m at work now, will try the settings you attached when i go home, I’ll even try to see if 8.5X425 works after I settle the memory settings.

did you notice the 5-7-7-7-20 timings? this can't be normal right?

First overclocking attempt on EP45T-UD3R / TG Xtreem PC3-15000 2GB kit.

and here's on the next booting with 500x9 and at DDR3-2000.
this one is not nearly stable enough to try SuperPi, i still need to work on some bios setting yet.

    Hi guys,

I'm trying to step away from my old 975x board (D975XBX2 Badaxe2) and upgrade to one of the latest chipsets. It looks like P45 is my safest bet because I want the ICH10 and don't want to pay out the ear - would you guys say that the Gigabyte UD3 series is a serious contender for the P45 belt (aside from the Asus Extreme boards) ?

I'm not really sold on the board design, I hate the color scheme and wish it was more uniform. Also I'm kind of bummed they didn't provide 90* SATA ports but I guess I can't have it all. However from all the research I've done, it looks like this is a pretty stable board for a damn good price if I step up to a P45 - do any of you have any input or can suggest any alternatives that I should consider? I was looking at the DFI P45 series motherboards as well because I really like their board designs; stability is my absolute number one concern though.

    Thanks in advance!

I am not 100% certain but I think that after you set the "Driving Strength Profile" to 1066 this will now show the timings in your bios. I noticed the same thing when I first started with this board and after I began enabling some things with my ram CPUZ began reporting the correct timings.

firas, try and set extreme memory performance to disable,it should help.my g.skills do the same if its on auto, but be careful when you change it to disable it will reset the cpu multiplier and fsb.i always start my OC by disabling this first then set up the OC.

Change it to manual and set your timings manually. My GSkill 8800s got picked up as 5-7-7-20, they are actually 5-5-5-15 so I've manually changed them and havent had an issue.

Under the profile, if I set disable I see 5-7-7-20, my next option is "profile2" is I set that then it shows up correctly as 5-5-5-15@1066.
