But set Vista power management to high performance and it stays at 21x as well under load.

I have e quistion about turbo mode on intel X58

When using intel turbo mode on a i7 920, does this change all cores to x 21 or is it only one of them that changes?

Does turbo overrule the multiplyer, or is there a difference between these two?

    19 x 186 Turbo on
    20 x 186 Turbo on

Reason I'm asking is when using everest it shows more than one speed...
as long as TDP/TDC doesn't get triggered then all cores will jump by 1 multiplier from what is set in bios for cpu multiplier ONLY WHEN Turbo and EIST are enabled - re-read tips at http://i4memory.com/102537-post3.html

Can this indicate bad contact between the cooler and CPU, or it is just this way with i7?
Both my i7 920 3836A756 have differences between all 4 cores - honestly i don't pay attention to it anymore.

it's to do with cellshocks specifically AFAIK. My OCZ PC3-14400 D9GTR worked fine on shipping bios but my Cellshock PC3-14400 D9GTR needed bios update to 12/31 or 1/06 IIRC at least to even boot without CF.

My Displaydriver got messed up a few times under my experiments for OCing. Several time when i was trying to boot into windows with high BCLK and too little Vdiimm, or too little VVT. I don't know if this is the same problem, but you could try a bit more Vdimm and VVT, or try lower BCLK, just to check.

I think I have the same problem.

I tried an OC at 20x200 to see if the cpu could take it.

volts all safe. VTT 1.4v CPU 1.35v RAM 1.65v

no IOH or anything else touched.

Booted windows fine and run prime for 2-3 minutes then system shutoff all of a sudden.

CPU temps where around 67C when this happened according to real temp and everest

Now the board wont start. The standby power is there but when I click the power button it wont start.

    Any ideas?

I am very frustrated as I did not use extreme voltage or anything so I assumed it was a matter of clearing the oc settings.

I tried taking out batter and power cord etc.

Hopefully it will cure it self i left overnight!?

    press power+reset for oc recover...
u will get back ure setting this way...its been like this since x48 lt/ut.

ure issue looks like too much uncore.. try reducing it with a lower ram first for bclk 200x20
like dram 1200 uncore 2400 and set ure qpi voltage to intel rated spec first 1.35

get the vcore right then retest with uncore and vtt if ure ram is rated already at 1600 mhz at 1.65v for example
once that is done retest the uncore at 4000mhz but ram at 1600mhz to find the vtt
then only pump the ram to 2000mhz and test ure vdimm voltage for it and timings.

to reset if no boot just shut off
press power then reset for 15-20secs and wait for the led display to change and then let go of power button.
also take note most i7 920 does scale well
theres a big jump from 3.8ghz to 4ghz and to 4.2ghz.
    3.6 to 3.8 is minimal

    I tried but no luck

No fans start to spin or anything, it look like the board wont power up.

Standby leds are on, no flashing.

If something died I will regret it for ever buying DFI

I just want it to work again as I do not have time to rebuild, and 3.8Ghz I will leave it there!

try unplugging ure rams to a single slot
    and boot back

eh i've had the gigabyte x58, two r2e , one r2f engineering sample and now this dfi..
the dfi is by far the most stable.

so no idea what u want to change to.

also try changing the jumper for the bios bat and then remove it..
do this when the mobo is has no power at all
    take it for around 20secs
    and put it back
    and change the jumper back

I took out the RAM batter and set red jumper to 2-3

I will wait 1 min and put it back.

Board code LEDS flash 1 sec and no boot, but LED near RAM goes ON. No flashing then. IF I press and hold power button after 5 sec LED near ram turns off (as if the pc shut down) but it was never on actually.

    I am puzzled

hmm wait for a while after u power it say like 30 sec
    if not boot shut down
    press power + then reset
hold that for 20 secs and while holding let go of the power button.
the mobo will shutdown hence let go of the reset and it will restart in default.

where did u buy ure mobo from..

like the distro here has the dfi bios flashing tool.
can just return it to them and they can flash the bios back and boot it back up easily.

what bios used for DFI UT X58 ?

what psu and memory used and what mem timings/frequency used ??

what video card and other pci/pci-e devices installed ? try removing all non-essential pci/pci-e devices and leave just video card

what post LED code say when it initially failed and when you tried to power up system ?

BIOS was out of the box, 6/2 I think.

    6GB Dominator RAM all auto

    3870XT GFX

TAGAN PSU (I tested only PSU and it starts ok, pump spins and fans etc.)

I bought the DFI in the UK and it says made in Taiwan on it.

When it failed I was in windows and I tried prime. after 2 minutes lost power suddenly. Did not see code or anything, or maybe I was too suprised to look

I tried to unplug cord and try again but now when I press power button the only thing that happens is that the CODE leds flash once and the LED near the RAM turns ON. nothing else, there is no code either the CODE leds do not power on actually. The small power button on the board is green through.

There is power, but fails to start it seems

I used the system for 2 days so I guess the OC did this.

They irony is that I did not try any volt over 1.5v for this reason .... I wish something happens and I fix it otherwise I need to take everything out again and I spend 10 hours to put everything in the case

Unplug psu, and remove battery from board overnight and try again next day. If you have another video card, try that as well.

You should always manually set main timings so start with 9-9-9-24 and tRFC 88 manually set if/when you get back into bios. Then manually set to whatever your modules are rated for. You may need to play with CPU VTT default board is 1.21v you may need upto 1.35v -/+ 0.05v set even for vdimm 1.65v rated for DDR3-1600.

Also try just 2x2GB of your modules and/or switching them 3x2GB around in same dimm slots.

Removed PSU cord, and bios battery - DONE

I have another video, X1900XT but no cooler on ... I ll try find and fix one on. Does video card matter based on my case you think?

Yes, I was puzzled with RAM as well and I thought auto is "safe". I tried the CSMOS reloaded profile also for automatic 160 bclk and then just increased the blck to 180 and then to 200 to try for 4Ghz.

because it was the profile all voltage was safe. everest showed RAM 1.61v core 1.39v and VTT 1.41v if I remember.

I tried super pi and it worked 1M 11sec so I though I try prime 8 thread.

after 2 min crash, temps went instanlty 67-68C from 38-40C so the cooling was OK I assume. I got 1/2 tube 18W DCC pump and 120.2 RAD. I had the overclock to 3.8 for 2 days and it worked ok with temp MAX 50C. MX-2 paste should be ok as well since for 2 days it was ok.

Looked like a auto shutoff or something. Then nothing. I hope now that I remove battery and PSU it will work again

To be honest when I got this board and is my first ever DFI, I always had ASUS, I opened up the box and it was everything plain unlike asus full of crap and I felt this is quality. I read made in taiwan then on it and I was ever more happy.

I have no idea about i7 and intel cause I had AMD for many years and now I managed to save money to upgrade to i7. I hope It gets fixed cause I have no idea what I will do Never had something damaged cause I always keep volt low. I hope is not dead.

Btw I read in the manual that RAM must be in 1-3-5 and on the diagrams is wrong! I tried as in the manual and it did not work. I pluged it in the green slot and it worked.

What slots do I need for 2x2 or 1x2 you said?

    Thank alot for the info!

Yes, sorry for the unclear post but I don't feel very well atm

I mean the manual is wrong, I had the ram in 2-4-6 the green slots for 2 days now working fine.

Also I read about this this codes and 88 code, well mine looks like 88 code when I press the power but is only 1 second and because as I said the 7segment has power for one isntant it "looks" like 88 because all segments light up.

Did you ever had this problem btw where the board does not power on to show codes or something, or is something different in my case?

At least if I could get a code to know what happened, I cant.

when you get 88 code, power down board (power button), switch off psu from psu switch... wait 1-2 mins. Then turn on psu, and while holding HOME key on keyboard, hit power switch to turn on rig (you'll be booting at default 133blck while all other bios timings/voltages remain same as your last bootable settings unless you did a clear cmos).

88 only occurs when you overclock way too far or if your vcore/cpu vtt/vdimm balance isn't correctly set or if you try a border line max bclk value ... i only ever had this code around 5 times in over several months now as i always use memtest86+ before loading windows.

When you say code you mean the mobo will power on but nothing happens and code 88 is clearly visible no flashing or anything?

Also, in the manual it says "secondary RTC reset" any idea what is it?

Board looks dead. Had it without power and emoved battery for couple of hours and still nothing.

`When I press button there is a 1 second "power up" and then nothing. However the LED indicating power on the RAM lights up.

It feels like the mobo starts but without actually starting.

I don't know what else to do? I will try all the jumpers and this RTC reset and see, who knows.

I bought for the first time DFI and it died on day 2

I had this same problem. The board seemed to run fine for 2 days, then set the bios up for a minor overclock with the ram, and the system would not boot back up. I tried everything, reset cmos, remove battery, jumpers, and left it unpowered for 2 days. I took all my components to a local computer store, and had them tested, and they agreed it was the board. I rma'd it, and so far it's been great. I think it was bios 12/18 on the bad one. Don't give up, I had to go through 3 DFI boards till I get a good one. Don't give up hope, once you go dfi, you can't go back...
