Been sleeving whole day and got 8pin and 6+2 done yet. And now that i got my groove on for this its time to go bed.

I know that is man, I normally do regular build work/research in the day, and then my sleeving at night- I actually find it relaxing, lol, but then again, I'm not re-doing all the sleeving of my CPU itself (I like how the HX520 already is, other than the seperate 4 and 8 pin CPU cables) , just all the internal wiring- fans, SATA cables, my Kaze Master...

can someone give me an estimate of how much 1/8 sleeving and heatshrink im gunna need to complete a whole hx1000, im wrapping each cable individually(1/8)

u can pick up a 225' spool of some really nice stuff for 30. http://cableorganizer.com/nylon-multifilament/ dont know if u've seen Langer's build but thats the stuff he's beeing using for wire sleeving

It's good stuff, but is a little tough to get on. The PET (heavier weave, not the usual TechFlex) also looks good, and is much easier to put on. Still doesn't look or feel as nice as nylon, though.

Both sleeving kits from MurderMod have more than enough sleeve to cover not only the HX1000 plus a few other cables within your case as well. Plus you will not find better sleeving anywhere.

Just a tip: If you don't have a heatgun or don't want to use a lighter, just hold the heatshrink over steam.

That way you'll never burn your sleeve or cable and it shrinks very well and even.

Be carefull though, steam is very hot!

a heat gun that does dual heat 750F/1000F is only $20 at home depot and its a small investment EVERY modder should make. Speed and ease of use > $20 especially when your building a $1500-$2000+ rig

Ive got a jobmate that I picked up for like...15 bucks (i think)..dual heat- only a 10A, 250c(482) and 450c(842), it works well for me, but because I do most of my sleeving and modwork at night I normally use a lighter instead

Heat Guns are soo dangerous. One mistake and it will take the skin right off your hand.
Use a lighter.

lighters are only really useful if you're working with black only...and only REALLY powerful heatguns are that dangerous, the one i've got...I've used it on my pants to dry them off before (on low mind you)

As said by Nils. The key for getting a good sleeve is to stretch the braid as tight as you possibly can onto the cable. What I found difficult was to actually keep this tight stretch with the heatshrink. How do you guys do this? Cause my shrink was not holding on strong enough to keep the braid perfectly tight. (using murderware)

you can use adhesive lined heatshrink if no other solution works for you

Just let more heatshrink be above the blank cable. 5mm is good enough to hold the stretch. Make sure the heashrink is shrinked to maximum. Test the heatshrink alone to see how far it shrinks to get confidence for your work

has anyone in canada ordered from http://www.mainelectronics.com/heatshrink.htm before? I was looking at them because Cable organizer seems to have some stupid high shipping costs for sleeving (22 bucks and up for 15 feet of sleeving) and they seem to be not only cheaper per foot, but they'd also (in theory) have cheaper shipping within canada as well
