I sort of cheated in that I benched with HT off, but that is no good for normal everyday use. Reason is Vista sleep mode doesn't work if HT is disabled. Struggling with this reminded me of the bad old days of XP with it's 90 second boot times. With vista, 10 sec is the norm, so HT on is a must.
