I don't post much here, but I figured I'd throw this out there so everyone can get a better understanding of how the i7 overclocks.

    Stock Intel heatsink:

Since I'm on the stock heatsink I disabled 2 cores to try and lower temps...saved me a whole 2C but doesn't allow me to OC any higher w/o causing instability.

    Which motherboard are you using?

Have you tried to drop the multiplier to 12 and overclock the base clock to the maximum to see how much further it can go?

This is on the Asus Rampage II Extreme. I haven't tried pushing the base clock yet. I will in the near future.

My 920 in a 29deg celsius room temperature, just fooling around to see low vcore stable, EX58-UD5, XMS3 1520mhz, True black air cool. Vcore set 1.31v and QPI/VTT 1.24v, dram 1.6v that's all.

Agreed, thats kinda the whole point of the thread of you think about it. With ever person that posts up bios and system specs it gives us a better overall picture of the i7. I'm still waiting for a couple parts to come in, but I'll post in with bios/pics when I can.

@mascaras...nice results...congrats. I would have been happy with 3.8GHz at 1.28v. I hope I am as fortunate. I don't get mine until tomorrow.

Thank you and gligly for posting the bios settings.

mem is run @ 1520 (not too bad)
but have made mistake of geting corsair 1333 tri channel

    should have gone for 1600

    if i lower the mem x to 6 and uncore to 12 so 200 x6 =1200

Loadline ON 1.35v bios, 1.328 idle, 1.31v load is small ffts stable (12+hrs, pic below)
Loadline OFF 1.39 bios, 1.36 idle, 1.31 load is small ffts stable (9+hrs, pic previous post)
overshoot should be .08v from 1.31v in both cases (if GB followed intel recommendations and overshoot =bios setting loadline off - load v)....so for me LOADLINE ON FTW.

Bios F3, 182x22, turbo on, (turbo tested prime stable by setting affinity to cores 0/1).
    QPIx36
    uncore 18x (18x182 or 3276mhz) w/1.28v qpi/vtt (for 20x w/182blck need 1.32v)
    pcie 100
    performance turbo
8 mem divider (for now, OC last, need 9 mem divider)
    DRAM 8,8,8,24 at 1.60v (rated 1600 1.65v)
rest stock/auto, all that matters on mine is above settings.

    Thx.

Thanks Flopper. Not the answer I was hoping for, but you saved me from ordering a mobo and then having to send it back.

? bug in F4e GB extreme bios where 23 multiplier (turbo) always active, (would not think that even possible?) When priming 8 cores, multiplier should be 22 (turbo only active with one core) but multi stays 23 per cpuz with all 8 cores loaded only on F4e bios, works correctly F3 bios. Also, F3 prime stable 12 hrs, but same settings in F4e crash immediately almost as if really running at 4.186...(though could be memory channel subtimings were different as well in F4E). Anyone else run into this issue? to late this pm to try and figure it out...

Hey, what is your motherboard revision (it's written on the board)? Also, what BIOS version did it ship with and which BIOS version are you using now?

I'm working on 4.0 with my Gigabyte EX58-UD5 and i7 920 It's a little work but I think I can get there Vcore is a little stronger than I would like, but the board has blown me away how graceful and perfect it Overclocks.. I haven't ever really owned a Gigabyte because they always seem to leave out some feautures that I love (esata) but I am absolutely astonished at how much quality this board brings to the table for the price... I suggest this board without reservation for anyone considering an X58 build I will post my settings in the morning...

Hello, I am trying to overclock my MSI X58 Platinum and i7 920. Can some tell me a software application that will tell me what the current QPI voltage is? The MSI does allow control of that voltage but it does not ever show what it is in BIOS. The auto setting for CPU voltage does not work correctly when over clocking so I do not trust the QPI voltage to the AUTO setting. Thank you.

I looks like that CPU-Tweaker is adding 4-5MHz to the BCLK BIOS setting. Now am I the only one that is seeing this?
