Max FSB Ive seen is 607 on air, 670 with CPU on LN2 (or DICE, can't remember now).

The MCW30 will fit, but fits better if you mod it slightly. Theres pics in the thread somewhere. The MCW-NBMAX is made for this board (and the rampage extreme) so it will fit perfectly onto the existing heatpipe setup (not directly onto the nb chip) - look at the pics for an idea of the options you have.

For my board at least, I had to flip the mounting arms upsidedown. In addition to that the mounting posts were slightly crooked.
If this makes any sense:
Heatpipe/sink <---screw---(washer - spring+stopper - thumb screw)---screwhead.

Does this board have compatibility problems with some mems? Meaning like Transend axeram or A-Data? I just cant get even 450FSB stable with any of setting wich have been posted here : / Even with solarfalls posted settings arent stable (this is his old mobo). Eventhought that ppl voltage is too low (1,51 is nearly the standart).

CPU cant be the problem, cause this e8600 goes just fine with biostar Tpower. Mems are A-Data Vitesta Extreme PC2-6400+ and transend axerams with micron D9GMH chips.

Now i cant have even biostar working.. Well earlier I managed to run few tests with HD 2400 XT atleast:

Hey, I was wondering if I could get some advice on what to tweak to get a stable 4+ GHz with this board and an e8600- I've looked through the thread and tried setups posted by cstkl1, BuGjAE, radaja, CryptiK, and others that have posted 4+ GHz dual core bios settings, and with all of them orthos invariably craps out with a rounding error within minutes (no pattern in which core fails that i could detect.).

Thanks for any suggestions. I was wondering if I just needed to bludgeon it with more vcore, or if it simply won't fly with this lofty of a fsb goal (but many of the other setups I've emulated employ a lower fsb in the upper 400's to lower 500's range, and I still can't get stability with them). I did set everything to stock timings and volts and i ran an error free orthos session for 8hrs (I was hoping this would throw errors too so i could blame the equipment!!!)

EDIT: I just got home to see my system at 4.05 GHz (450x9) is still priming error free at 10 hrs! I know I've tried 450x9 before and failed; I did however flash to the 1307 bios, disable loadline calibration, and bump up vcore a bit (I think I'm at 1.42 in bios and 1.36 according to everest under load) this time compared with previous failures at this speed.

I see a new bios for the M2F - 0803. It has a much smaller file size besides being out of numerical order. It is on the Asus web site but I think I will let someone else be the guinea pig on this one. Sounds a bit strange to me.

Yah, that one is an error. It is for the P5Q-SE series. Someone at ASUS dumped it into the wrong motherboard archive. Seriously, would you trust a bios that was released on a Friday afternoon???

@ drnick - you have 2 possible approaches. You can use the 10x multi and keep the ram 1:1 with the FSB, keep the timings loose, set PL10, give the cpu ~1.2v vFSB and the NB ~1.30v and find the max cpu clock for the vcore you are comfortable with. Then bring everything else up and find the best ram settings for whatever FSB you have settled on. Finally adjust the voltages so you are giving the bare minimum for everything to be stable.

or

Keep the multi low (eg 6x) and push the FSB to the level you're aiming for keeping the ram initially at 1:1, PL10, and when you have the FSB and ram stable at the given speed, bump up the multi until you find the max the cpu can handle for the vcore you're comfortable with. Then adjust the other voltages so your giving everything the bare minimum required for stability.

Guys...need some help.

Recently replaced my dying 780i with this Maxumus II Formula, but I'm running into some problems.
This cpu did 4.5GHz with ease on the 780, however right now I'm struggling with 4.1 GHz.

The problem seems to be that the only way I can get past 400FSB is with the 400MHz Strap and the 4:3 divisor.
The only problem with that is I am then limited to ~430 FSB (DDR 1146).

I would like to use the 1:1 divisor and drop my multi, but if the FSB is at all over 400, with the 1:1 divisor the MB will not post.
The LCD freezes at "DET DRAM".

Any suggestions?

Up PL to 10 for now. 10 is lowest you can go 1:1. Maybe some more vNB will help. Also set DRAM CLK Skew to advance 250

I can't lough about that anymore. The board, for its price tag.. is simply just crap at all. DFI boards do better FSBs, cost less and also have a better soundcard. it is frustrating to see that asus doesn't take care about their RoG line...

I too am a little disappointed with the board's performance. For the price, it's very disappointing. I think with the ROG line, Asus have tried to entice fanboy gamers rather than legitimate, skilled overclockers. Take a look at the 'Level up' promo video on the drivers DVD that came with the mobo, and I believe the demographic Asus have aimed the board at becomes clear. I saw it weeks after I bought the board when I installed asus probe, and thought "oh no". I honestly believed it when Asus said RoG was for serious overclockers, but sadly it seems like it surely is not. Perhaps the Rampage Extreme is good though, but this board is weak, and there are many other P45 boards that can do as well as it, and cost less.

However there is no P45 or X48 board currently out I'd spend any money on. The Rampage Formula doesn't do it for me, it struggles to get a quad over 495 FSB, and seems flimsy in construction with poorly designed heatsinks sporting plastic pushpin retainers, and a bios lacking the depth of control I'd like to see. The UD3P looks like the cherry picked boards one or two reviewers got are ok, but the retail ones are nothing special, and the recent failures of a few boards taking the cpu's with them is very disconcerting. The Biostar boards are too lacking in features and have too coarse voltage adjustments to use 24/7, and the P5Q range have poor quality control and exhibit erratic behaviour. DFI's latest X48 or P45 offerings have not turned out to be impressive either (all the DFI P45 does well is SPI 1M,a nd the X48 is just bad.

If Asus made a board that was identical to the Rampage Extreme in hardware and bios options but had DDR2 instead, I'd probably go for it, but sadly they don't. Trying to choose a good board these days is pretty much impossible.

The MIIF is ok for a 24/7 system, but it's nothing special like it was cracked up to be.

EDIT - if I were to buy another board, I'd probably get the Rampage Formula, as it comes the closest to what I want in a board. I probably wouldn't be 'happy' with it though.

Need Advice on getting past 3720MHz with my Q6700. BIOS is 1307, memory is G.Skill PC28800 (2x2GB). System is water cooled so keeping the heat in accpetable ranges is not an issue. 3720Mhz (8x465) is rock solid at current settings. I haven't been able to get stable at any settings that result in a cpu speed greater than that. Ultimately, I'd like to hit 4MHz or a little higher maybe 9x445. The only seetings I have adjusted beyond those below is the vcore, and I've had it up to 1.5v with no stable success. Any help/ideas would be appreciated.

You're already pretty much at the max acceptable vcore for 24/7 and you said you hadnt gained anything by increasing it to 1.5v. Your vNB is very low though I'm actually surprised your stable at those settings now. First we can eliminate the ram and leave it 1:1 and find max cpu speed.
