    Intel brings forward Nehalem Launch

Not sure if this has been posted and/or if its true but thought I'd post.

Originally scheduled to launch in November or December this year, Intel's Nehalem-based Bloomfield processors will now launch in September along with X58 chipsets, sources at motherboard makers have revealed.

However, the sources pointed out that CPUs and motherboards will not officially appear in the channel until early October.

Since Bloomfield CPUs are not socket compatible with previous Intel platforms, the accelerated launch is not expected to cause competition between the company's own products, although the same cannot be said for AMD's scheduled AM3-based CPU launch, noted the sources.

Haw haw, dual socket Nehalem. It will eat games, scare small children and melt your face.

I think I'll stick to uniprocessor after all.. Should still be quite a step up from dual core AMD.

Just a rough guess below, but DDR3 may go up in price with demand who knows.

    $300 or £200 inc vat - X58 Motherboard (DDR3) (Rough Guess)
    $300 or £200 inc vat - Intel Core 2 Quad LGA1366 'Bloomfield' 2.66GHz 8MB-cache Processor
    $450 or £225 inc vat - 6GB DDR3 PC3-12800C7 1600MHz (3x2GB) (Triple Channel)

    $1050 or £625 inc vat = Total
    __________________________________________________ ______________________________
    August Prices (i.e. price drop)
    $200 or £100 inc vat - P45 Motherboard (DDR2)
    $330 or £200 inc vat - Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 LGA775 'Yorkfield' 2.83GHz 12MB-cache Processor
    $110 or £ 65 inc vat - OCZ 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-8500C5 1066MHz Dual Channel Platinum Series DDR2

    $540 or £365 inc vat = Total

    You'll want 6GB DDR3, it's triple-channel.

Cheers, I've changed the prices etc to reflect that - hopefully prices will lower by release date on DDR3.

I thought the Extreme Edition was going to get 6 cores while the server will get the 8???

    Ho-hum.
Yet another uber-expensive platform & CPU that has no use whatsoever for majority of users.
I'll pass and put my money on things that will actually gain me something. Like a video card.

Actually I'm certain it was mentioned that motherboards will be equivalently priced to todays P45/X48s.
They should be less since the IMC would be located off the motherboard, but I won't argue with P45/X48 prices.

There are rumors that the 32nm version will be a 6 core product. (edit, okay, not a rumor, Blauhung says it is a 6-core :P) Beckton is coming in Q3 09, it's an MP 8-core server product.

Nope, no 6-core this year apart from Dunnington which is also an MP server product, but not Nehalem.

    QFT

I'll probably pick up a second-hand 45nm Yorkie when people start upgrading and save most of my cash for video cards a watercooling setup.

that sounds a little narrow-minded, not everyone's a gamer. I'm sure the damn platform and cpu has a use even to office users, as it is probably the only competition intel has and a reason to lower prices for york/wolf.

$450 for 6GB of DDR3 is a very unrealistic price, not to mention that 6GB of memory is rather insane. 3GB is going to be enough for most people. You can get 2GB of DDR3-1333 for $60 right now. So you can expect to pay maybe ~$100 for 3GB of DDR3 in Q4, DDR3-1333 with good latencies.

    It's probably more like:

    Nehalem 2.66GHz : $300
    X58 Motherboard : $200-300 depending on manufacturer
    3GB DDR3-1333 : $100
    Total Price: $600-700

Once DDR3 becomes commonplace, the prices will fall, not go up anyway. Thats how it has always been and will always be. It's not mainstream and that's why it cost more. Heck, look at DDR1 prices?
