Amd has hypertransport 3.0 wich is much faster than the FSB on Intel. Also it doesn’t need to compete with memory traffic. The FSB on Intel is used for both I/O and memory. That has been enough until this year. Now when new games is scaling to more than one thread, video cards that can handle LOADS of I/O. The FSB on Intel can’t handle all that traffic (maybe if you OC using hydrogen ).
The MHz isn’t that important, it is the speed between hardware that is important.
The fact that there's an explanation doesn't mean it isn't weird. I wonder if upping the PCIe bus will help performance at all. Good news for P45 owners anyway, their ability to get higher FSBs should help out quite a bit
