2 Q6600's here 1(this one) does 3.2GHz on 1.22Vcore and the other (in my workstation at work) does 3.29GHz on 1.23Vcore.

any ideas on what specific factor could cause random restarts?
i couldnt isolate what was causing it, i maxed out nb and vtt voltages, random restarts, left them at stock, still random restarts. idk, maybe it will go away, i wont be home to test out new settings for 2 weeks. goes away at 3ghz, but is prime stable at frequencies much higher.

Which should I get tomorrow morning?
Go with the L737B743 and you should be happy. The L37A may also be good but I would pick the B batch one.

That is normal. Theyre pretty close really.

Thought I would show temps with my rig under a few hours of Prime.

    At Fry's NOW

I am sitting in the Fry's cafe. I had the guy in the cage write down the batch #'s of the ones they have.

I found this one: L741A963. Someone stated it had a VID of 1.2125. (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...7&postcount=16)

I'm thinking I should get that one, and not risk getting a high 737B, since they are reported to be 1.35v.

    What does everyone think?

I just plugged in the L741A963 and CoreTemp tells me it is 1.2000v.

    Is that right?

Why do you think it is different than what the other user posted. Shouldn't it be 1.21? I am using the same batch.

Does this have anything to do with droop?

Such a low VID is a very good thing to overclocking the beast. Mine is 1.3V, as you can read in my signature I need to pump a very high 1.55V to reach 3.78GHz. Maybe yours will manage to reach that speed with 1.45V or so (if you have proper cooling to run it).

Vdroop is an another thing, it's the voltage decrease when the CPU is under load (difference between idle Vcore and load Vcore).

You have a VID=1.200v, every Batch# is different, that why folks should show the whole Batch# and not just the week as in L741XXXX. You can get variation of the VID within week and certainly as you have noticed you can get variation within the same Batch#. In fact I have seen variation from 1.200v-1.2500v within the same Batch#, so as the saying goes it is still a crapshoot still applies.

1.200v just seemed so surreal to me. I didn't anticipate going from 1.300v to 1.200v with a single return. Especially after I found someone stating 1.21.

Not knowing the specifics of my board (Rampage), and CoreTemp itself (especially after my silly stepping confusion), the even values seemed strange.

Notice, I went from 1.300 on the last one to 1.200v. Both even numbers. That still makes me suspicious.

Is there another way to tell VID without using CoreTemp?

If you have Everest it is specified as Core Voltage under CPU under MotherBoard Tab

You have to trust CoreTemp, it is correct unless you have enabled SpeedStep in the Bios, but you already said it was disabled.

i have my q running at 3.2 (400x8) at 1.23 real v core, 1.27 in bios. I think thats a bit low compared to what some other report as stable for 3.2ghz. i dont really feel like primeing the machine for hours at a time cause the only time i can use the pc is at night, id rather play games when i can. dont wanna leave it on all day cause its a waste of electricity. the games run fine without crashing. does anybody else OC their cpu and not test it?? as long as its working, its working right?

    L741A963:1.2000v

Jor3lBR, hehe... I have been dreaming of this for a while. Now I can have some real fun.

I think the Fry's in Houston (south) has 4 more in stock if anyone wants a good batch.

So, I was able to overclock to 3.2 with the stock heatsink and fan. I have a WC setup that I will be applying once my new motherboard tray for my case shows up.

For now, here is an updated image:

    Yeah looks great!

    My 1.21v vid Quad goes to 3600Mhz with 1.26-1.28vcore Prime95 10hrs stable.

But you don't wanna get passed your current 8x400 on air. Wait for your WC setup and then unleash the beast!!!!

I'm running my northbridge @ 1.5v and my vtt @1.4. I've seen many northbridges on here as high as 1.575v How high can I go with my northbridge? I have MSI heatpipes on my P35 so the cooling is very good.

I've also added two Thermaltake Thunderblade 120mm fans to my Thermaltake Soprano case which has reduced my 8800gt idle and load times by 4C and reduced my load on my CPU by 4C as well. These fans are pushing 78 CFM and producing 21db.

If I crank up my northbridge more than 1.5v I can get more than 3.6Ghz

I thought my vid was 1.225v but I can't run coretemp because of Vista 64bit operating system. I found a post stating the same batch as mine has a vid of 1.1625v

    http://www.ocxtreme.org/forumenus/sh...ad.php?p=18766

Back to my first question, what's the highest northbridge setting above 1.5v on heatpipe cooling? I can get a couple hundred more mhz with a higher northbridge.

Later versions of CoreTemp work fine on Vista x64. I remember having problems installing an earlier version of CoreTemp, but am currently using 0.97.1 without problems on Vista x64.

As to the max 'safe' NB voltage on stock cooling, it all depends on how effective the cooling solution is. I personally wouldn't be worried about using 1.5v on a P35 chipset, although I would monitor the temps. If the temps do get a bit high, you could always either add a fan to the NB area or consider after-market cooling solutions.

OMG the Q6700 is only 192 euro now since the Intel Price Drop!!!!

10x multi Quad Core for < 200 euro is incredible and the Q6600 is only 158 euro now too!

Do the Q6700s clock a bit better? 4ghz Quad on air? :o
