Looks like the non-extreme 970 will still be $885, so much for folks hoping it would be in the $500-$600 range.

the i5-870S looks interesting, but the naming is a little confusing. i5 suggests that it will either be a dual core with HT, or a quad without HT, but the 800 series intel processors are all quads with HT. the "S" suggests that it's lower voltage, which means it's most likely not going to be a quad with HT because this will consume too much power. hmm... the naming kind of conflicting...
yep i knew it wouldnt release at 500 after the 875K pretty much worked for intel to counter the thubans.
but also they already released the i3-550?but it say 550 in OCT and the i3-560 in AUG?
EDIT-now i get it the 550 is just dropping in price?and the 560 will launch in aug.i guess it pays to read whats written and not just
look at the charts for the whole picture![]()

What's wrong with the 860 you have now??
It's fast, power efficient and should OC well. 32nm Westmere based Quad would only lower your power consumption to some extent and you may gain some OC headroom, but you ain't going to see some massive performance improvement...

Like richierich said, why the hell are you running an oc'ed quad 24/7 just for torrents?Just put together some spare parts you may have lying around and undervolt it.
On-topic: Meh, that's pretty... uninspiring.I hope Bulldozer is fast. That'll make Intel launch some real interesting CPUs at better prices.

Argh, the 970 is still overpriced, and it looks like at this point the 980x is a better buy.

wont 1155 come out around that time?
Saaya, I didn't think that we would be seeing a new socket until Q1 2011?
I wasn't expecting to see the 970 until August or September, but July is a nice surprise. The $885 price tag is not, however.![]()
You're not pushing yours enough then prolly.
I need 1.45v BIOS setting / 1.41~1.42v CPU-Z for 4.1GHz HT off barely stable, need pretty much the same for 4GHz HT on. Also VTT is at 1.38v and 195 BCLK is the limit and runs cold as usual like all my previous CPUs, 75~77C in LinX with no comp case. My usual luck and then the RAM overclocks like a dream (also like usual for me, bad cpu but good ram), DDR3-2400 1.68v for Ripjaws 2000CL9 but I don't see the point of buying a new CPU in hope for a 100MHz better clock unfortunately even if 21x200 x12 had been a very sweet spot for my RAM too.

If all people would share opinions in an objective manner, the world would be a friendlier place
They should name it Vuvuzela - since it's just for fuss. :P
The i7-970 ended up much more expensive than rumored/expected. Many have been waiting to get a cheap 32nm.
It is interesting to see really cheap i5-760, at $200 price point, where AMD is competing![]()

I use a I7 920 on an Asus RE Gene for my media server, but it folds in the background also. But yes, it is overkill. Also, it's water cooled too.

Something is seriously wrong here, dude. I have a i7 860 stable at 4Ghz HT with 1.275 volts (it's currently at 3.2Ghz on 1.08 volts cuz I don't do anything that needs that much firepower) -- hell, I managed to get it to 4.6Ghz HT benchable on 1.42 volts... so bad mobo, maybe?
