I suggest not to test if crashfree is working........using procedure of switching off the PC during flash erasing.

There is the version 6.10.02 (I hope to remember correctly) of Asus flashing tool from Windows that permits BIOS' downgrade.

It is mentioned somewhere in this 3d too.

    It doesn't.

But I don't suggest to use the profiles saved under a different version of BIOS.

If I were in your shoes at this moment in time I wouldn't buy it.

Not cause of the P5E which I love and serves me well, but of
what to come. The new SLI-board, X48, Skull-Trail etc.

What about someone like me who's looking for a board to replace his now dead 680i? Right now I'm tossing up between the P5K-E WiFi/AP and the P5E. AU$100 difference in price, but the P5E has beefier stock heatsinks (so I might not need to replace them, saving me money), and also gives the option of Crossfire if I switch to ATI soonish.

So for OCing Q6600's, which would be better: P5K-E WiFi/AP or P5E?

Between them I'd choose the P5E, X38, better/stable OC and FX PCI-2 Soundcard.

Even then I'd still wait for the X48/new line coming up boards.

Waiting isn't really an option for me. I busted my current mobo (eVGA 680i A1), and need something to replace it, so I'll be looking at buying a board in the next couple of days.

At about 80% of flashing (not checking or deleting, flashing), kill the power to the mobo. This will cause the motherboard to detect some bios bits but not a valid one. When starting the PC again, you'll get a non-interactive oldskool DOS-style recovery envoriment which will check USB, CD-ROM and "external storage" for a valid recovery BIOS.

Insert your motherboard driver DVD, and it will restore the original bios (107 for me...). Great stuff... altough quite scary .. turning off something whilest flashing it's firmware is not something one would call wise

you dont need that , you can downgrad bios with the AsusUpdate 61002

I am tearing my P5E out of my my main test system this afternoon!!
I am stuffing in a P5K-E that I have had since November but, have never had the time to mess with. My P5E is still No.1 with me (for now) I just need to know about this P5K-E as I am going to use one of these 2 boards with a new 3870 card in my entertainment center. With this card and my system in my tv room it will play both blu-ray and HD-DVD movies. So I want to stress it out a bit and see.

So godsfist I will know better how to answer you very soon.....

Looks like I have made a big mess of things. After reading a post on a different site, I tried a bios change. Now it won't boot at all. It does not go far enough to press Delete to get into the bios. That is, the monitor does not come on at all. Is there any way to reset to defaults or getinto the bios other than the CMOS battery/jumper method? Thanks in advance.

I just put together a new box with this mobo and damn is it solid. Im running at 3.0ghz with my Q6600 with literally no effort (backing off a ram ration and increasing the fsb, no voltage increments at all). I've never had this good an experience overclocking, but then again Ive never used the higher end components I did this time. Thanks everyone for the bios info though, Im leaving my mobo at 0303 for now, it seems to be working fine and I dont want to run into issues.... yet...

Got some problems with my scythe mugen and the first memory slot.
Does is matter if I put my 2 sticks into slot 2 and 4?
The manual states that the best thing to do is to put it into slot 1 and 3.

Well, hopefully ASUS comes up with a new bios update to solve everyones memory problems. Still on 0201 and want to go to a higher bios.

Got my P5E today.. flashed to the latest bios and everything just works

Also got an E8400 Prime stable at 4GHz on silent air, Thermalright Ultra 120 with 120mm fan running at 900rpm

But one core reads 15 degrees higher than the other in idle and under stress according to CoreTemp

Is that a problem or just one of those things you can ignore?

That is a problem see my posts in the official coretemp thread. It is 1 of 3 problems a dodgy diode on the core or a lack of contact between the core and the IHS or a poorly calibrated T-Diode on the core.
    Sorry
    John
PS I have my QX9650 being RMAd for the very same reason as cores #3 and #4 ran 21C hotter than cores #1 and #2

Hmz, what works for me is just keep rebooting. Sometimes resetting or a
total unplug of the power and a restart again. Somehow my bios always
    will reset to standard settings.

Has anyone tried removing the stock cooling on a P5E? I've heard that with the Asus Maximus, Asus has started using some sort of epoxy on the northbridge, so that if you remove the NB heatsink after the board has been used a couple of times, it nice and glued in. I've even heard of people ripping the IHS off, or even the whole NB chip out of the board.

Anyone come across this problem with the P5E? I'll most likely be replacing the stock heatsinks with Thermalright stuff in the future, so it'd be nice to avoid any potential trouble.
