I was just making a note that just b/c a has a higher 3dmk score, doesnt mean it will perform better IRL (gaming).

yep , 8800GT/GTS also scores higher than 8800GTX/Ultra and in games they are not better

Higher 3dmark score doesnt mean = better in games , we already know that

about HD3870X2 and 9800GX2 performance in Games will always depends of drivers support , same history like SLI/CF

    regards

    Wow - hope that's true. That's a darn good dual-3870 x-fire-range number. Got 17k with a QX9650 at 3GHz stock with dual-3870s in x-fire.

    Benchmark leaked

They show three DMARK06 tests to 2560 by 9573 resolution at X1600
    (SM2.0: 4494分, SM3.0/HDR:4476分). 看來如果以1600X1200 或是1280X1024測試, 分數是很高的! (SM2.0: 4494 points, SM3.0/HDR: 4476). View to 1600 if the 1280 X1024 or X1200 test scores are high!

That's not the reference card, it's the Unika one.

I wonder why ATI decided to leave the switch chip as it is, it wouldn't have taken long to redesign it for 90 nm, 65, whatever, and have TSMC to make it way smaller than it is right in that picture.

What's that huge chip in the middle??? Is it some kind of a magical solution that makes those dual GPU's work together as a "single" GPU so that it is always scaled in everything like a magic crossfire?

Yeah its the PLX bridge chip. In other words, internal, intergrated Crossfire.

Because AMD buys it from a 3rd party, i.e. they have no rights to the design and cannot have TSMC shrink it for them.
As to why they went 3rd party is because they are planning on integrating the PLX into R700.

Well, it's certainly plausible, but you could at least reveal some aspects of your information source.

I just don't see how this is going to be better than the GX2 if it is only 2x3870's in CF... 2x8800GT's in SLi will outperform this.

    Surely?

I mean all anyone can do is speculate but from what I have seen so far, it isn't that impressive (the X2).

As ever I will reserve my judgments until I see an X2 vs GX2 shootout.

True that 2x8800GTs will outpeform 2x3870s - by a little. But, the unknown is how well the onboard hardware x-fire performs vs. the hardware sli, that is, the hardware x-fire could get closer to the full power of two 3870s vs. how the GX2's onboard sli gets close to the full power of a pair of 8800s. ... or not.

    That is not true...
CF HD3870 performs better than SLI 8800GT...
It scales MUCH better, as in it is pretty common to see 60-90% gains.

That's not the way I remember the comparative benches. I though that in most, but not all, benches 2x8800gt beat 2x3870's, but not by much.

BTW- there is a button down in the lower righthand corner named multi-quote, so you can quote more than one post in your post.

It is a newer model though... We have seen these before but not this particular model.

Hey, I'm going to buy two of the 3870 x2's rather than 2x Gx2s, thinking they'll be better. (And I have 2x 3870s rather than 2x 8800gt's.) But, I'm trying to be realistic. It's not completely clear which will be better. I'm betting ATI - though - for the 1st time in a while.

The performance of the 3870X2 and 8800GX2 should be pretty close to each other, but in my opinion the ATI design is much better. A single PCB versus 2 PCBs. I'll take 1 in a heartbeat, especially if you want to go subzero. Have fun making pots for that Nvidia card.
