Now we know where all those G92 cores went when people are STILL waiting for their 8800GT cards.

Power consumption is also a HUGE disappointment.

Or flawed review. Say how can a 8800GT perform better in some scenarios when 8800GTS has everything 8800GT and more? Sorry but I don't trust TweakTown on this one.

But yea if this is the real deal it's sure a bit dissappointing. But I'm not gonna make a conclusion based on this review cuz with those specs it just should perform a bit better. I wanna see more reviews before I'm gonna jump to any conclusions. But yea could be bandwidth limiting and if that's the case I'm sure gonna pick a 8800GT instead.

    dont think so .

if we think the 8800GTS its only a 8800GT with all Stream processors unlock ..........

But with new drivers we should see some boost , but even with that......

let´s wait to see the price too

The new GTS is consistantly outperforming the GT @ high res.

Granted for those of you who use smaller res the GT is the way to go but I'm willing to pay an extra $50-100 for that boost.

Besides they didn't have time to bench games with the card OC'd and the drivers aren't mature.

This card has a niche and I'm in it while I wait for the next flagship models...

I too shall wait for more benchmarks/reviews before drawing a firm conclusion

Bit disappointed by performance. And if the price will be 40$ more than GT, then GT is a winner here.

of course it is. It was optimized for the 8XXX line. The same can be said for
the 3870's performance in Call of Juarez.

    Bottom Line:

People will take from these benchmarks what they want to see.

One person sees an underperforming 3870 and feels better about
his 8800GT purchase, easing his mind of the lingering buyer's remorse
    he may have been feeling...

Fanboys for either camp will cherry pick results and argue for "their side."

Me? I had been convinced the 8800GT was the way to go, and had one
on order the day they appeared. But what I see from these benchmarks is
a 3870 card that was built for an integrated system, and will only reach
its true potential when run in such a system.

    I've never been a company fanboy. I jumped on AMD's bullet-train when
the A64 line appeared, and it clearly went on to dominate. When Intel
finally found a solution in the Core 2 Duo, I knew who the new reigning
champ was. But now? Benchmarks be damned. My gut says we are just
witnessing the birth of AMD's new vision, and birth is always a painful
affair. AMD bashers-- have your fun... for a month or two.

I for one am giving AMD a chance on this one. I don't feel an emotional
need to justify my Intel purchases by downplaying the obvious advances
AMD is just now starting to make.

Give me a revised/updated Phenom, my dual HD 3870s, and my tricked-out
MSI 790FX board... I think you may be surprised at the results of a properly
configured Spider rig come Q1 2008

    For now, have your fun

I would be more inclined to get 3870 and get a second, later if needed.

If the price is right that is.

Not bad... Then again wasn't expecting a huge performance increase form the added shaders. Guess I'll be more intrested in keeping my GT and just modding it and adding better cooling.

precisely what I am doing. My first 3870 is already here waiting for
my MSI 790FX board to arrive. Update BIOS, some overclocking fun,
and I fully expect the pairing of these two components to yield
better results. When the inevitable price break on the 3870 shows up,
I snap it up, and voila -- dual PCIe X16 Crossfire fun ensues...

Exactly why I ordered the HD3870. Company Loyalty is silly. I wanted the 8800GT and still think it is better than the 3870 overall. $237 shipped (list $214) convinced me to buy a 3870 though. There's no need to try and put down either of these cards. One's slightly slower and Cheaper. The other is just the opposite and harder to come by. I'm still kicking myself for not ordering the 8800GT for $239 shipped.

My 3870 is my 2nd choice but looks to be a good purchase as well. Picking a Video Card was a much harder than picking a Processor. It was Easy to pick a 3500+ over a Hotscott, then easy to pick Conroe over X2 and even easier Penryn over Phenom. Also Intel Chipset over nVidia's which leads me back to 3870 that I will add another to later for Crossfire maybe next year. I don't like the adversarial stance nVidia is taking with Intel + SLI! In this case, I'm glad AMD is NOT that stupid!

... After that, retailers are going to hit a dry spell for the simple fact that if you could hold off from purchasing a graphics card just before Christmas [or] you can hold off until we see the new NVIDIA based DX10 cards come in January.

What DX10 cards is he talking about here?

Supposedly the G92 based GX2 rumored card?

No one knows for sure when the next generation is showing up, supposedly March at the earliest but then again the G92 might just be a short-term bridge to cash in on the 8800 name one last time

I wouldn't base my opinion off this one review. I'm on the fence between the GT and the GTS its going to depend on how well the GTS does at 1920x1200.

They did add some benchmarks of Crysis now also on the last page.

For example. I game at 1920 x 1200 and I have a gt. The gts would be a step up but not enough to make it worth my while. If there is a 1gb version of either card, that might be the gtx killer. Certainly not this card and not worht my time or upgrade from a gt. IMO

This isn't unlike the 7900 to 7950 jump last generation.

Why? Because the rig I built will suddenly stop performing?

This is why fanboism is self-defeating. It colors one's ability to reason.

If Something comes along from a different manufacturer that significantly
outperforms my current hardware on a price/performance basis, and does
so to such a great degree that it renders my current hardware incapable
of running the applications I need to run at a high level, I simply buy the
    better offering.

Intel has had my wallet for the past eighteen months. I've taken an objective
look at AMD's current roadmap for an integrated desktop solution,
and in taking a larger view of where the market is heading near-term,
have concluded it will indeed provide a high level of performance and
better flexibility. When that changes, I will adapt and change with it.

But focusing on largely irrelevant (and often highly suspect) "benchmark"
reviews, while stubbornly clinging to a myopic view based on one's current
love affair with their platform of choice, is an efficient way to separate a
    fool from his wallet.

As far as I can tell, blind allegiance to a particular manufacturer serves only
to ease one's psychological pain when that nagging feeling of "did I make the
right choice?" begins to rear its ugly head. You aren't defending Intel. Why
would you? You're defending your own decision making. Change can be good.

    My post stands.

yea, that is something that people fail to consider, that you can wait for a few months, and pick up a g100, which is far, far, far, far superior to this card

Something's iffy about those power consumption numbers. How can the GTS use almost as much as the 2900XT with only one 6-pin connector?

If those numbers are true the G92 is a bummer from a technology POV: Can't beat a 8800 Ultra and sucks as much power as its 90nm sibling. Disappointing...
