ridikolous, if you are still raising bus speed and trying for stability don't tighten your timing up like that. keep it on auto or run 5-5-5-15 to eliminate some of the variables, when you get to a place where the cpu won't go farther then you tighten the ram. you are trying to change too many things at once.

    1. find max bus system is stable at.
    2. find cpu max speed that is prime stable
    3. adjust timing for best results

On the subject of a 4GB RAM kit I noticed these around, they get my vote just because they look nice

Vista eats it up easily. I find with 4GB it reduces a lot of page file use over 2gb. And sometimes I just like to leave lots of stuff open

Oh and running 4 threads of prime95 (only on vista) doesn't thrash the hard drive with 4gb, whereas 2gb does.

Bottom line, only reason to use 4gb is with vista 64-bit and it is a noticeable improvement. And you're probably going to say, why vista? I want native dx10 (not a botched dx10 hack patch for xp) for gaming, probably #1 reason... I also like to get used to the latest stuff because, eventually whether you like it or not, Vista will eventually be adopted as the most used os.

Your Vista hating aside, I like it. With 4GB I see no performance difference between it and XP. Also, with quad core I can game and do just about anything I want in the background and I feel nothing in game.

I always like to be ahead of the curve on RAM, especially at DDR2 market prices right now.

how about 8Gb , run a ramdisk and load your game to it...with the right software an image is taken each time you shut down so you won't lose the game OR where you were up to level wise.

4GB system ram, 4gb ram drive...no load times, no slow write to disk.

4GB scratch drive kinda usefull in CS2 or CS3 also for the photo hackers.

DDR2 is cheap at the mo and being honest if you are thinking of upgrading or adding now is your time.4GB non micron kits doing 1066+ with timings similar to D9....i think micron is losing its grip finally
Got a problem with your OCZ product....?

Little offtopic, how do you guys set two instances of prime95 up & running?
And if someone who's got E6750 and this DFI tell me what's their vcore on 4GHz.
    Tnx.

@ Cuhaos, Turtletrax & anyone else that wants to throw there 2 cents worth in.

I just last week loaded Vista 32 bit up on my box & I have to say I really like it now iv got everything working nice & the user account control thingy disabled (bloody pain in the A**).

I have played Medal of Honour Airborne, Call Of Duty 4 & Crysis all the way through this week & they run flawlessly & imo they run nicer/smoother on Vista than XP in addition my fairly cheap 5.1 speaker system sounds sweet through Vista I don't know why but it just does

I do however have a few issues when it comes to benching, Vista sucks @ making numbers. Ok I knew there was an issue with 3DMARK01 but 03,05,06 Aquamark, Cinebench Everest even HD Tach/Tune & ATTO are way down on XP.

Am I missing something here or is this just the way it is with Vista ?

Good to hear buddy, that is the issue most of the time . find your limits 1 at a time and then you have a good starting point for tweaking it in.

I am not a flagwaver either, but I dont want much to do with Linux (dont have the time or will to learn how to use it and gaming is near impossible) and Apple just plain annoys the piss out of me (and you cant game worth crap either) so that leaves XP and Vista.

My main reasons for Vista are I use 64bit for it memory addressing capabilities, and I am a hardcore Media Center user. I have my HTPC that serves my Quad rig and 2 Xbox 360s on various T.V.'s around the house. I was also terribly bored of XP. I got it at release and weathered the strom of bad Nvidia/Creative drivers and now am pleased with it (other than benching numbers it puts up), which brings me to C-N's question.

Vista does suffer from poor benching numbers. I have not really taken the time to fully trim the fat from Vista an research and apply the many hotfixes that are not served up by Microsoft Update. I have the website linked on my HTPC that has all hotfix/updates listed. I will post and edit to this when the wife finnishes her movie. There are tons, and I dont know why they dont show on Windows Update.

I haven't used XP since I built this rig. My last XP machine was an AMD Socket 939 4400+ on an asus nforce4 board. I Dont really have any first hand experience with benches for XP vs. Vista.

From what I've read though, it seems Vista just generally lags behind xp across the board for performance 1-10% (depending on what app)

I'm running 64 bit vista and runs great! I had 32 bit ultimate but my XBX2 fried 2 gigs of ram the day before I switched to the P35 T2R.

I've run into several situations where windows gave me low memory warnings now that I only have 2 gigs of ram.

One was with Crysis Demo and just today I printed 404 page service manual from Adobe reader which sucked up 3.99 gigs of ram. Also, the blend test on Orthos gives me memory warnings also which means it is using the swap file when it is loading things into memory. When I run multiple apps while recording HDTV in the background I get memory warnings.

I Never ever got memory warnings when I had 4 gigs of ram (3.3gigs read) on 32 bit ultimate with no pagefile at all.

Today while printing that large document in adobe reader, My computer seamed it was locked up cause the memory was all used. I moved my mouse and it wouldnt respond for about 10 seconds, it was like running XP on a Pentium III with 256 KB of ram it was so slow. I have a raid-0 with 4 raptor 74 gig hard drives so hard drive bandwidth is about as good as it gets.

Ya software could be better optimized, and ya, vista could do better with lower memory, but it aint how it is and it aint goin to get better, so 64 bit with 4 gigs is actually required for how I use my everything in one pc.

With 4 gigs of memory on ultimate, I could play Bioshock and record a HDTV broadcast at the same time and only notice it because the hard drive light is blinking every second. Performance wise, I noticed absolutely nothing. With 2 gigs, Vista interrupts the game by telling you that your low on memory and you can feel the performance hit big time...

I think you guys running Vista should be asking you're selves what exactly is using all of that memory resource and just exactly why its doing it!

Doesn't anyone but me think its odd that for non server environment it requires so much Ram just to use a O.S?

Doesn't Vista seem to use so much memory because it's actually keeping it ready to be instantly accessible to other programs? For example, Vista might appear to be using 1GB, but when you fire up a game that figure instantly drops to 300MB. It didn't suddenly stop using so much memory, it was always using 300MB, but was keeping 700MB constantly free for whatever program you might start..

Trying to get my Q6600 primestable at 3,8GHz. Just need to find right combination of VTT voltage, NB core voltage and GTL's.

I bought this board about few months ago and until now I realize how much potential it has. Gotta love this board.

    Thanks for your replies guys

I reckon I am around 6% down in benching, which to be honest I cant feel anyway so its not like I'm hurt or anything its just a surprise that I'm down so much on just about every benchmark.

Turtletrax please post the link up i will give the fixes a go & see what happens, I don't mind screwing up the install as I will probably re-load my array as dual boot knowing what I now know anyway.

Is anyone finding their SATA controllers are fritzing? I almost RMAed the board a few weeks ago when I was gettin 2 MB/sec transfar rates in RAIDO.

Since that time I have just used single drives as the RAID issue was too annoying.

Now I am trying out an I-RAM and cannot get it to boot an OS...BAD_POOL_CALLER BSOD after install. Weirder yet is the fact that NTFS install on I-RAM does not boot at all--only FAT...and it crashes halfway through the load screen.

I sure would appreciate some feedback on this issue.

Wondering if I should go ahead and RMA the board.

    Thanks all.
