What is the deal with 20SIMDs? Only logical explanation is if they meant there are 20ALUs in a SIMD, i.e. there are 16SIMDs.
Also, codenames are different from what is being leaked from a very good source.

I also don't think they will change up the naming that much.
It has been hinted that Hemlock is 59x0 and Cypress is 58x0.
So with that I would guess that Cedar is 57x0, Juniper is 56x0 and Redwood is 53x0.

I think there is a hint in the 3 different scores for Cypress. Which may indicate 3 different cards in this series.
5890 Higher End of the series = P18XXX (possibly with 2 gigs of ram, higher overclocks, etc)
5870 Regular Clock Edition = P17xxx
5850 Regular Clock Edition = P16xxx
But time will tell...On a side note, I was hoping for a single 6-pin connector.

i hope we see a much smaller lineup that makes more sense than the 4000 series. before they had clock speeds combined with ram types, with everything (hopfully) GDDR5, they can just keep it simple

Why do 512 if 256 does the same?
And FWIW, ATI cards seem to be more efficient with memory and bandwidth use. See how the ATI 4850's scaled with resolution and AA vs. a G92 card...

While 512 bit buswidth is rather out of question, wouldn't it be so sweet if Cypress was equipped with 384 bit buswidth, if it comes as a 360 mm^2 chip, i think it wouldn't be pad limited. Just imagine, a 360 mm^2 chip with 1920 SPs, 96 TMUs, 36 RBEs on 384 bit buswidth (6 RBEs per 64 bit mem controller) using 1.5 GB of 1.2 GHz GDDR5 chips, greatness !!
I dunno, it seems GDDR5 development have been stunted in the first half of 2009, with all of these economic malaises, the production ramp up and speed development have not been as fast as it should be. Considering nVidia can sell a more complicated card with 448 bit buswidth with such a low price, i think 384 bit buswidth PCB isn't necessary all that expensive. Naah, it's just a wet dream of mine, nevermind.![]()

There's a simple formula each card should follow...and that is:
next gen = 2*previous gen
If the 5890 or w/e they call it is as fast as a 4870 x2 or even dual 4890's, I will be happy.

Well, Nvidia selling it for cheap does not mean they're making the same profit margin as a smaller die and less complex chip.
Like when the 4850 and 4870 came out, the GTX 260 and 280 had a $100 and $200 price cut overnight.... was it because the chips weren't that expensive? Not necessarily, it was jut realization that they wouldn't sell a damn thing without lowering prices... in turn, they got hit on profit margin so instead of making $100 or $200 more per card, they had to bite the bullet...
I don't agree with that beeing the normal progression rate in the videocard arena. Given that manufacturers come with more or less one generation a year, it would be much higher than usual tech progression (doubling each two years). Indeed, I think that only the great surprise/success/hit chips have managed to double over their previous generation (R700, G80...). I'd say that a much more realistic and paired to other technologies and Moore's Law formula would be:
next gen = 1.5*previous gen
Given that a new generation is coming every year (your formula could be good if there were a 2 years gap between generations).
Said that, it seems that this generation both ATI and NVIDIA are going to double the performance of their chips... as it seems that performance/watt it's not doubled (or close to that), I'm a little scared about the power consumption of the bigger chips of both ATI and NVIDIA this round.
