    Ds3 rev 1
    E6300
    OCZ ti alpha vx2

    400x7
    ram 2.66 = 1067 4-4-4-15 +.5v
    fsb normal
    gmch normal
cpu 1.35v ( could do lower but temps are fine under water )

    450x7
    ram x2 900 4-4-4-15 .4v
    fsb normal
    gmch normal

    500x7

you're right. i read back in this thread to see which bios had the least amount of negative feedback, and it was the f5. i've been on f5 with sufficient testing time and cold boots and have not had 1 cold boot problem. i had tried f6 and f7 and both did, so it was between f4 and 5 and f5 had best feedback. i'd like to know if anyone else having cold boot issues are running 4GB ram. i upgraded from 2 to 4, but also changed bios. could it be cold boots are latest bios not handling 4gb properly? just a thought. f5 has been good so far

I think nothing is 100% safe. But, that should not stop you. Provided you've thought things through. Fan for sure.

Have you removed the NBHS, lapped it, cleaned up and applied AS5?

Does this look 100% safe? YMMV

My computer's a little hectic right now. Last night I went watercooling. all I have to say is 7/16 is such a pain in the ass on the plastic barbs. The computer is now back scattered on the desk. But after it all took place, I gave it a whirl. Something is up with my 7900gs, and I think it's the common finger/dirt issue since I was "all up on the card". After being puzzled at why it'd lock up in bios even at stock settings, I did some fiddling and came to the video card conclusion. I did a little bit of wiping of the card and now it's working again, however, it's artifacting real hard at known good settings. I'm a bit busy for the next few days, but will eventually alcohol swab it again, and maybe even the ds3 to see if it does anything.

Temps for cpu got a lot better with normal voltages (<1.35) but 1.312 is what I need for 3.2, which I was doing on air with 58'c coretemps. Obviously, I'm wanting more. And I had a hard enough time getting it to be stable at the old settings I used to use. Stupid 4:5 is broken, etc. The board also doesn't like too high fsb's for me, despite a way better heatsink (which still gets damned hot) so i put a 120 on there for now and it's ice cold. Tried normal mch, +.1 and +.2. Seems all I get to is around 470 still before it craps out. So it looks like it's back to the 8x multi (since 7x I'd need 500+). At least nbcc is more in check too. So I try 8x450 and 1.6v. Looks like high vcores don't work properly. I was having the stupid loop issue. Tried 1.5v and got it to post and boot into windows. Orthos was failing immediately. Used et5 to pump up vcore a few steps at a time. Not sure what actual setting would be in bios, but it's at 1.56v set in et5 and dmm reads 1.48 under load. Failed prime overnight. Didn't feel like getting out of bed to change up the vcore more, so I ripped off the pcspeaker. This morning I tried 1.58v set in et5 and it's orthoing again. Coretemps are up to 65'c though . Guess it's what I was expecting with this cpu, even with water. With an ac freezer 7, I was seeing 80+'c on these vcores before I stopped prime and just sat it out. I'm comfortable in the 60s . Too bad mem is only 900 @ 450 1:1.

I'm having no cold boot issues with F7 on my DS3.

The only issue I had was a strange one where I couldn't install an older version of ZoneAlarm without it causing bluescreens so I deleted ZA and all the registry entries for it and installed Comodo firewall instead which turned out to be an improvement.

I'll be sticking with the F7 as it seems to work fine for me despite this one odd issue which is no longer a problem.

I only change my bios if I really really have to. You guys that flash and reflash daily are far braver than I.

Sorry rich, I tried F8 but the damn thing was so horribly unstable I tossed it. It wouldn't even do my normal OC without power cycling endlessly upon reboot. I liked the memory reporting features but I wanted my OC back! Maybe with F9.

Does DS3 F9 bios support micron D9D memory?I am still using F7 as most stable and reduced vmch to +0,2v and increased v fsb to 0,2v to get things more stable.Using micron D9GCT and it runs great up to 900mhz(7x450 1:1) cl4-4-4-12 2,2v.At multi 8 max is 415mhz or 3,32ghz 1,475v.

Prolly not anything to do with 4GB - MadMikeSS is using 1GB of memory and I have a 2 GB kit...I dont think it would have anything to do with amount of memory - at least there isn't a trend I've seen.

Wait EveryOne!! Important thing to know about OCing with new BIOSes (DS3 F9 DS4 F7 DQ6 F8) and its official from my Friends in GB!! look for find out :
I have Patriot D9 that you can see in my rig When I flash to DS4 F7 I load optimized default + save and exit and first try 300x7 w/memory multiplier 3.33 but cant hit 1000MHz like before (F6-F5...) and wont boot at all (3 beeps) I try also 500x7 w/memory multiplier 2.0 but again cant boot I call my friends in GB and now I can hit 1040MHz!!! but how? way is :

First I set memory to 900MHz + save and exit it can boot next I set memory 930MHz + save and exit it can boot next I set memory 960MHz + save and exit it can boot next I set memory 975MHz + save and exit it can boot next I set memory 1000MHz it can boot next I set memory 1020MHz it can boot next I set memory 1040MHz it can boot!!

you should jump 10MHz-30MHz to reach pick!! its free to try .....

Now I can break my older record (FSB 500+1MHz) + 40MHz extra FSB means 540MHz and I should say DS4 F7 is best BIOS that I have so far

    Dear Gigabyte,
Please fix the cold boot issue.

With F9 if you set your FSB to 430 (3gig) do you still get the cold boot issue?. Can you try it if you are not sure. There is method to my madness.

My board does up to 473FSB with +.1v

F9 on my DS3 has been fine. But then again I have had virtually no problems through the life of the board (besides like F1-F3 bioses = weaker overclocks). Its all about tweaking one thing at a time and finding out which settings your ram / board / cpu work with.

Then again I don't have a massive overclock, but I'm happy enough with it.

    My e6600 needs
    1.3750v for 3Ghz or
1.4875v for 3.2Ghz (temps are as high as I want to go at this setting)
Yeah, I know what You're saying, true, and with mem at 1:1 I can actually Orthos up to 7x500 FSB "only" needing Vmch = +0.2V.
    But I want to use 8x410 @ 4:5 ( 4 4 4 12 ), which puts mem on 512.5 ( 1025 ) MHz, an memtest spits out 100's of errors if I don't use Vmch = +0.3V.

    -----

3.2GHz is plenty and it's ~10% faster than a X6800 which is the fastest dual-core CPU today!

I love this GA-965P-S3 mobo. Very cool mobo.

    Yep, Nope, Yep & Yep!

You're right, nothing is 100% safe but let's say 99% then?!

How much is +0.3V MCH, in real voltage? 1.5 ... 1.6?

I am lucky, blessed, what-have-you...F8i is fine for me no cold boot issue, no losing oc, no usb f*ckups...none of it...system in sig is way stable but I'll be damned if I'm going to flash a new bios without better feedback...

No cold boot at 430x7, get it at 440x7.

    What are you thinking?
