EDIT: I saw your comments on the adapter, I had no problems with it, as long as you got a good power supply.
It's a 980w, but there are no Molex connections or extra connections. The PCIe power cables plug into the motherboard/logic board.

Like I said, it's the system in my signature. The PSU, and power system is proprietary unfortunately.
They're rated for 225W through the motherboard, anymore and it could blow the board.
Some folks use a 6-8 pin adaptor, some have success, some have issues, few end up with a dead system.

I'll see what the TDP ratings are, and if it's not too far above 225W, I might take a chance depending on performance, and driver availability.

    Mac? That's a problem

I'd be tempted to get a soldering iron out and rewire the power supply a little bit

Can't be bothered, especially risking the loss of my warranty.

I'll wait a bit, and see how these cards pan out, and prices of course. Selling my current GTX 660 which is okay, and I'd like some more oomph.

What games are you playing on the Mac mostly?
PS: The 290 will probably draw under 225W, I'd keep a close eye on that one.

I've over 85 games on Steam for Mac alone, and doesn't include other services. Lately finished off Borderlands 2( finally), currently playing Serious Sam 3, and Civ V. After which I'm going to start Metro Last Light, Bioshock Infinite, and Max Payne 3, also Tomb Raider when it arrives.

I keep going back to The Witcher 2, as it's just great.

I prefer to play OS X titles, but I have no qualms with running others in Wine, such as the Crysis series, MechWarrior Online, and others..

Sooo... Peel away the sticker that says Radeon R9 280X and you see Radeon HD 7970 below it. Older drivers also recognise it as a 7970.

Man has this move bewildered people. I was reading some of the comments at engadget and most people think this is a new series. Mantle + new naming series makes people think this isn't a rebrand.

the reason...? What is GTX770? GTX680+higher clocks...For company is the smart choice, because is cheaper to do 2 new highend cards than all segment. They dont need change everything with new architecture.

So basically, we have 100% rebadged parts but the lower end ones which are a Retail launch from an OEM part. You do not get free games with the new Radeon series which you do on the 7xxx, and besides, they will probabily be more expensive than nearly identical 7xxx counterparts just because they're 2 years newer. Nothing to see here.

This was expected, as have done Nvidia .. The card have been right placed against competitive cards.

The 280x is launched at 299$ ( Thaiti XT2 ( even if they succeed to push some more performance, i dont know how).. the 270x is at 199$ MSRP ( 7870 bieffed up )... Still waiting about the 290x who is the real new card..
