You can bet that you would be seeing people complaining about Nvidia selling a single gpu for $900 that you can't overclock. Most people aren't that big of a fanboy. At $700 I would be all over one, at $900 not a chance in hell.
Back in 2005, I told people to buy any 512MB 7800GTX for MSRP $700 that they could, even though it was an obscene amount of money for a video card in 2005. People scoffed and said "Only a FANBOY would pay that! It's a ripoff!".

That was before they sold out at $700 instantly and people started paying $800, $900 and up for them.

"Fanboy" has nothing to do with it- there's a market of people who will pay $1000 for the top end video card or CPU, no matter who builds it. It's the E-peen factor.
