That was a good review Zac. I especially liked the LLC testing you did. I'm sure your findings apply across all the Asus X79 offerings. Although higher LLC is good for benchmark runs, I don't run LLC above Medium for 24/7 duty.

Yeah it was a bit of an eye opener for me as I was running LLC at very high for 24-7 use and was getting more voltage than I expected. Seems a bit off that there is basically negative vdroop on all level of LLC. I was used to seeing results more like this (UD5):

So i want my money back from this board. Have RMA'ed once and it just never works correctly, not happy with any aspect of it. I work in an IT shop so i have replaced every other component in the system. I hate this board. ASUS has 1 and 1 chance only to make this right......

Not sure what board you have or where you are located. If you are outside 30 days of purchase then the only option is to RMA and exchange for the same model. If you are based in North America send me a PM with a full system config and a systematic description of the issues. If there is a problem with the board then we can have a tech pre-test one for you. If you are located outside NA then you will need to contact support in your region.

    Cheers
With me the display gets stuck on 30, but the RIVE never fails to wake up with a stable overclock (BIOS 901, 1005, 1101). It's quite common for systems to hang or stay blank after waking up when there's a memory prob. If it's not that I don't have any other ideas in addition to what's been mentioned.

I have question for Raja on the SATA Hot plug BIOS setting. mine is currently set to default of disabled, but other places I have read this setting should be enabled at all times unless it is causing a specific issue. I would like to know more detail on what the C600 chipset does differently with this enabled. Are there stability advantages (my main concern) for enabling this option, and what are those specifically? Below is some info on my system:

    Mobo: P9X79 Deluxe BIOS 0906
    IRSTe: 3.0.0.3011 (from 3.0.0.3022 install)

3G_4: WD Caviar Black (in mirror set with 3G_3)

3960 stuck at 12 multiplier Am I stupid

    Help!!

Just installed R4E and 3960.. but while I seem to be able to adjust the Multiplier Ok in bios and shows changed during start up ,, I always end up with a 12 multiplier / 1500mhz.. when in wondows

I did not do a fresh Windows installation.. could that be a reason.. I have even tried the cpu level up .. and when in windows a splash says its successful, but CPU Z and AIDA64 clearly show I seem to be stuck at 12multiplier. I am running the 006 bois now, but same with older one..

Perhaps I am missing something in the bios.. ?

I hope its human error not board/CPU.. strange .

Sounds like SpeedStep for sure. 12 is low multiplier used for idle state.

With CPU-Z open, if you load the system with Prime95 or LinX do you see the CPU frequency go back to full multiplier??

What are your basic BIOS settings? Take some screen captures and post them. Just what you have in Extreme Tweaker menu and CPU Settings under the Advanced menu.

    Are you running your strap at 125?? (12 x 125 = 1500)

I am currently using the 125 strap and yes 1500mhz.. I did try and check cpu z under linx load.. same deal sticking at 12 multiplier. I will check to see if any templates I can use on the settings .. but to be honest think there is something else wrong..

In order to get the wrinkles out of your set up, try setting your strap back to 100, base clock at 100, and make sure you are setting your multiplier adjust for "All Cores."
Check and see if you are getting the correct speeds this way. Once you iron it out this way, you can go back and play with the strap and multipliers.

As far as SSDs go If you enable Hot plug, it will disable LPM for you and enable the ability to hot plug a drive into the associated SSD port. Some SSDs have issue with LPM (you can read up about that on the web). AFAIK the reason we provide the option is to ensure compatibility with some legacy drives that don't work with hot plug enabled.

Mine stuck at 1200 & 1500 using fast setting, for 3 weeks. Tried every thing under the Sun. Last week I did a search again, (funny thing - when I clicked a link too this forum) throttling started working. Few days later I installed a revo 3 x2 with win7 64, still working great.
NOTE; I called Intel about this issue and found out they are having fits with the (memory-controller), plus I got signed up for a replacement when it becomes available. I also over-heard this was caused by disabling of the VT crap just before its release. I do not know if it includes the (X) series, I have the 3930K series.

I saw the OP, and I do not really want to dig through 21 pages... No info on the Gene? Or is it just that it performs the same as the rest without the slots?

I plan on actually building an open case system on a slide out tray on my desk. So I like the idea of the voltage headers on the Extreme. I notice the points are there on the Formula and the Gene, kind of. The solder point is there, and maybe a resistor? on the Forumula, but only the solder/test points on the Gene. Just wondering if it those are OK to use... I really just don't need all the extra slots or the cost they bring.

I wish they just added the plugs to all of them

You should never miss an opportunity to admit you are an idiot. Its good for the ego. The first computer I built... 486SX... I screwed the Mobo directly to the tray. Stand offs are stupid, what purpose could they serve. I had never had an electricity class. Yet.

I can actually see what he is saying though. And its reported that its not in the manual either, not like I would have read that thing.
