Grishenko - I was happily running 1.36vNB for over a year on my M2F which is P45 and actually has worse NB cooling than the P5Q-D. That was passively cooled too, so you know you can pretty much assume you have an easy year (probably much more than that) of degradation free operation at at least 1.36vNB. As for Vtt, its your cpu thats the limiter here I think, as the current drawn on that circuit is minimal as its just a switching circuit - the board could probably safely supply more than the CPU could safely handle. Probably 1.35 Vtt is where I start getting a bit concerned for the CPU but that is just a personal feeling of mine.

This threads been like a time machine! Its enabled me to relive the experiences of the early P5Q deluxe pioneers as it happened. I am up to thread page 40ish and loving it!

Currently I am happy with my QX6850 sitting at 3.6 (400*9) and corsair dominator CM2X2048-8500C5D (2*2g kit). PL - 7. What can i say rock solid. I've seen my memory benchs move up considerably in Everest.

I did boot at 3.9Mhz. Even got all the way into world of warcraft before BSOD. I am not too sure I can get 4.0Mhz without a cooler upgrade - Zalman 9700 atm -so maybe low end H2O in needed. Vcore is at 1.35 with LLU lowest I can go, benchs folds and primes fine. Load can touch 70 but around high 60s in Prime. Forget OCCT Linpack.

Only thing that threw me was defaulting to PL-5 in bios for manual. That took a few goes to iron out.

Is there a Bios other than the Asus 2201 that I should use? seems kinda old but it really works for me?
And you should run memtest86 when you do memory timing changes, along with prime95 for system tests. This will help eliminate BSODs and freezes later on.

Quad, can you run rivatuner or something like that, to measure your vid card temps. Set your nvidia drivers to 'default' and 'quality' and see if you get it. You can occasionally get a bad vid card out there. My 260 would sometimes give me the bad colors after awhile.

    Okay updated Bios.

Been getting a few bits and pieces together before the big over-clocking push for 4.0Mhz.

Just one question to the veterans - how much should I worry about chipset cooling? The plan is to use a x10 multi and push the FSB to 400. I have in the past stuck a fan on the NB/SB but I can't see where one would go on this board? Will it even be needed? I have the asus supplied fan and a small akasa chipset fan.I just don't know and ofc there's no software monitoring for those temps.

Also if I aim to keep the ram around 800 -1066 speeds should I worry about Ram temps? I have the corsair dom ram plus the older 3 fan ram cooler. But it sits right in front of the CPU cooler and vents warm air into the CPU fan. I've just got no feel for those temps on this board. Ram is running 2.1v atm.

    So gear using:-

    Coolermaster CM690 Adv
Qx6850 (rock solid atm on 3.6 9*400 with Zalman 9700 1.35vcore all other voltages at minimum values)(rarely see more than 50 deg C in gaming but Linpack pushes to 70 after 30mins/ OCCT linpack goes 80 plus)
    10+ fans mixture of 140/120 & couple 80mm
    Fan controller
Noctua D14 kit (I am kinda worried about ram over hang - but may swap front 120mm to back of cooler)
    Corsair Dom 1066
    Seasonic 850 m14D
    470 gtx EVGA EE

Personally I think I'll top out around 3.8/3.9Mhz. As I need the temps to be under control as I want a stable overclock for gaming.

That's great to hear but wont a quad stress the northbridge more? My last hike to find a stable FSB ended around 430. Admittedly I didnt up the voltages as I was just on a quick tour.

So in theory I needed worry too much about chipset active cooling with 400fsb.

Try changing that last setting cpu margin or something like that. You should be able to get to 470-480MHz.

Banwell just a tip ; never run FSB and rma in sync ( so 1:1) always use a ram divider... this will make it far easier to stabilise and drop the PL

For 400FSB, aim at 1.26Nb, 1.3 max FSB term voltage...

and these boards love auto for strap and co...
Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

Remark : They call me Pro Asus Saaya yupp, I agree

I have done this and my temps never see over 45 c it's a MSI GTX 460 and at the fan at %100 it never see over 39 c

I had the same problem with my ATI 4850 that I'm having with the GTX 460, so I'm leaning to the board. I have tired the different clock speeds on the PCI E bus 99 and 100 and 101 and auto all do the same thing.

Okay had much fun. But i've still got a wall beyond 420 fsb circa 3.9Mhz. I tried upping the NB and Terminal but to no avail. Maybe I need to be more aggressive on terminal as I stopped around 1.34. Anything above 430 * 9 seems to require too much cpu vcore. I went all the way up to 1.475 (temps were still reasonble ~ 67 degrees c) but was just BSD on prime large fets after 4-5 mins.

But I can get 3.8 looking good at vcore under load of 1.376 (about 1.36 in bios with LLC).

Maybe I'll hone the 3.8 overclock and run it for a few days for overall stability. Prime large fets is rock solid around 57 degrees c.

Does anyone know if the current Bios is still over volting chipset on minimum settings? Seems little point reducing them if that's true.

hmm this post on GTL refs seems to be throwing up a few ideas, seems like I need to concentrate on stabilizing my cores.

    Food for thought.

Performance Level : Try to lower to 9 or 10 maximum... you are loosing a lot of performance here

FSB term can easily be at 1.3 for 65nm CPU's... go slow, try 1.24-1.26,... and memtest a lot...

Looking at your Vcore you will prolly end up over 1.42 for 4Ghz action. Ditch the ram cooler if it blocks the CPU cooler and maybe try a dual fan setup (push/pull)

Cheers for the advice. I tried a different strategy today. I used my stable 3.6 (400*9) and upped the multi to *10. I can happily get into windows with 1.425/1.45/ & 1.475 vcore. I can even run super pi 22m and Everest memory benches. But as soon as I run prime 95 small FETs the pc locks up instantly and BSD. I tried giving her 1.5 vcore too but if anything that made it worse at 4.0Mhz. I also dropped the memory down to 800Mhz loosened settings - still same result.

I've decided to try and hone the 3.66Mhz (400*9) for the time being (so some mapping of NB/ Termial/ PLs). I will also run some memtests overnight to rule out any issues.

With this cooler and setup I'd say even 1.5 vcore is not an issue - so anything around 1.45 with (10*400) should be a breeze. The cooler is mounted vertically and exhausting right out of the top of the case. Both noctua fans are in recommended fashion, plus the roof vent has a 140mm too! I got some IC diamond in the coming in the post too it will to replace the mx-2 I am using atm.

update guys : got 485Mhz FSB stable 20 loops of Linx - only trouble - it's not stable in games - they judder and crash.

that was using 1.34vNB and 1.34vTT - so gonna boost vNB to 1.4v and try again - got my quad to 4.365Ghz! 490Mhz is not far off - i recon she can do it!

Just looked at my notes as to the Q9400 I used to run, I ran 1.36v on the NB and 1.32v VTT at 485 daily. Also ran the cpu Skew at Dealy 100 and NB Skew at Delay 200. Just throwing that out there. Exceptional job on that OC!

Q6600 go further than 3.2 OC?

    Hi,

I've had a 3.2 OC on my Q6600 for a long while now which runs very stable.
I've recently moved from air to water using the Corsair H50 and wanted to push it to 3.6 - 3.8 or more if safe.

If anyone can advise with some settings, it would be great to hear from you. (thanks)

    AUTO at smallest Voltage ?

    hi guys,
i think 2 years ago somebody recognized, that the smallest voltage (e.g. Vnb) is similar to AUTO.
is that fixed or do i still have insane voltages if i choose the smallest voltage?

    regards
