Perhaps a bit rude asking you about this Tony, but still giving this a shot... Doing this to my NOVA drives would work as well? And is it only IOPS, or also transfer speed with 64KB+ files ?

I assume the new firmware will be available from OCZ?

I have a 2.5" Vertex 120gb SATA II, pretty sure it has an Indilinx controller (Not sure about the nand though).

Currently running version 1.6, but didn't see anything newer...

    Are all updates already posted?

If it's available "immediately" do you have a download link Tony?

Its going to Indilinx partners (remember ocz own Indilinx now), they will have the updates for you if you use non ocz drives.
OCZ users i am told will get the update soon.

I have an earlier build of this FW and saw increases in all testes within as-ssd vs the old cognac build of the FW.

It is well worth the update once partners start releasing it.

Is Corsair a partner? I have a NOVA 128 and NOVA 64, as far as I remember I bought them in December... =)
I think they are plenty fast still though.

Super Talent has released a package for FW2142 at the end of April'ish (and updated as of 5/12/2011) -- is this the latest and greatest from Indilinx or will it be superseded by another FW?

(sorry to drop this on you but I guess ST is now a 'partner')

The package includes the Windows-based Indilinx 'MP Tool' for FW updates.

Apparently, the Indilinx FW2030 (from last summer) borked "Program/Erase Cycles" significantly, reducing the anticipated life span of the SSD. Glad I didn't update

The issue with the ST Indilinx SSDs is that some of their drives shipped without a *User/Factory Mode* switch - you have to crack open the SSD and 'jump' two contacts with a paper clip in order to switch the drive into Factory Mode. Once in Factory Mode you may use the MP Tool in Windows to flash to FW2142.

Their issue (for those who have no switch) is there are a gazillion or so *Flash types* available in the FW2142 MP Tool. They require that you post your serial# on their forum before you crack the SSD open.

They then 'authorize' the opening of the drive -- then post the Flash Type you are to use in MP Tool dependent upon your serial#.

Not sure how well I explained that but their package is slick -- three PDFs and the FW2142 MP Tool. They walk you through the entire process, explain the paper clip jumper (with pics! - LOL - including a flat metal file to get that paper clip just right), recommend the proper torx screw diver (with links!) to open the case, and outline the Indilinx FW2142 MP Tool process step-by-step (with screen caps!).

Here is the zip file if anyone is interested ...

    Thanks, Tony!

(and sorry for going off-topic in your thread)

I hope it will help my OCZ Solid 2 a little bit and refrain my temptation to get a Vertex 3.

Didn't that just affect the P/E cycle number read out through some util, with the actual lifespan remaining the same?

Perhaps some new life for my 30GB Turbo. Regardless of any improvements I'll need to be shopping for a new drive soon as it's simply too small these days.

Wow, I'm very surprised and excited to see this. This is great news. Will definitely update my Vertex ASAP.

Don't get too excited yet. Just got a response back from Ryder at OCZ that none of my 10+ Vertex I's are compatable with this upgrade. Apparently if your drive (compatable NAND) was able to be flashed to a Turbo, it isn't compatable with this.
That said, MOST Vertex I's won't be compatable with this upgrade.

    Been waiting forever.
They must have had some major issues with their initial controller dies, or R&D funding.

2142 is not this update...2142 will becoming to OCZ drives probably as FW1.7 soon.

Arowana is a totally different build, it is nand specific and i will say 50nm sammy is NOT supported, so all you guys who flashed to Turbo you have all we can give you.

This release will not please everyone I am sure, we are doing what we can to speed up all the drives with all the nand BUT there are limits as to what can be done set by the nand.

    Hey Tony,

I just ran the "Identity Tool" on my Vertex 120 and came up with a result of 101102 (not 081102)...

This gives me hope that my drive may be able to handle the new Arowana FW.

Any idea when I'll be able to get the flash for it?

    A PM with a link would be acceptable (I won't share )....

    Thanks...... Dave
