    Is there a way through bios to change the way the mobo controls the fans (instead of PWM to switch to classic 3pin control process?)

    Otherwise the only way is a fan controller or maybe adapters 4pinPWM to 3pin?
    All headers EXCEPT CPU Fan can use 3 pin and still use Q-Fan.
    Use headers marked "Chasis Fan" - 3 headers connect to cpu temp. Use 'silent' profile.
    Opt Fan 1-3 are tied to their own temp probes.
    PWR Fan is duty mode only.

    quad sli is not supported on the R3E as it lacks the second NF200 which is required for sli. see hilbert's article on guru3d:

    Quad SLI on ASUS Rampage III Extreme is not possible

    asus came up with an add on board which is equipped with two NF200 and plugs into pcix slot 1 and pcix slot 3. this addon board brings quad sli to the R3E:

    there is also some discussion on this going on here:

    I've asked this three times with no reply.
    Can someone verify if CPU-Tweaker misreports EIST?
    I have SpeedStep set to disabled in BIOS, but CPU-Tweaker says that it is enabled.

    How do you disabled EIST on R3E in BIOS?

    I always [disable] cpu turbo power limit, and then go into the cpu configuration and turn off C1E [disable], Cpu TM function [disable]. There is also two more settings i turn off, Intel Speedstep Tech [disable] and Intel turbo mode tech [disable]. The latest cpu-z has issues with this board. Drop back to a older cpu-z and see if that helps.

    I'm not talking CPU-Z. As far as I know, it does note report if EIST is on or off.

    I'm talking CPU-Tweaker. It has a little checkbox that says EIST.

    I have all of the above settings you mentioned disabled, but CPU-Tweaker still reports EIST is enabled.

    Sorry about that , I misread your post about the cpu-tweaker. I was thinking you was asking about the voltage as it is grayed out in cpu-z with the latest on this board. I will download that program and try it on mine.

    If you mean the "eist" is checked even after you disable it in the bios. then that is normal as this setting enables you to change multi's in cpu-tweak. As i turned all my settings off in the bios and it holds at the 20x multi no problems showing in cpu-tweak. Even when i load it and it goes to idle it stays locked at 20x.

    Thanks for the reply and the research! I suspected it didn't matter. I was worried that something was going on behind the scenes that I could not detect.

    Does anyone know of software that can be used to dynamically tune the memory on the X58 chip? I used to use nTune on the nForce chips.

    have a look at memset to change timings on the running system,

    or SPDTool to reprogram the spd of your dimms.

    It seems I got my CPU running stable at 4.2 Ghz with HT again - 3 days of gaming with no crashes.

    It eats up just under 1.4v though, 82 degs max temp during gaming, but just as long as I dont run prime it should be fine.

    My CPU is a stupid CPU

    1.28v = 3.8 Ghz
    1.3375v = 4 Ghz
    1.3875v = 4.2 Ghz

    (LLC on 100%).

    Why cant the thing just die within its warranty period so I can get a better one lol. At least its still working after 2 years.

    On my previous UD5, I needed to use 1.45v QPI and 1.4v on the CPU to get stable at 200 BCLK and 4.2 Ghz. The R3E is stable with 1.275v QPI and 1.3875v CPU, plus just 1.59v for Cas 6 ram @ 1600 Mhz.

    It should be fine as long as it doesnt go over 85 degrees during gaming. Must skip Ivy bridge and wait for 16nm before upgrading.

    So you think running 24/7 on 1.38 volts makes that a bad cpu? What if you happen to kill it and get back a worse cpu then?

    BHAV FYI HT does almost nothing in most games...
    Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

    Remark : They call me Pro Asus Saaya yupp, I agree

    No, I think that running it 24/7 at 1.38v maybe unsafe and it might die because of that much voltage. The max temps are 82 degrees on Core 1, and under 79 on the others after hours of Civ V.

    Civ V however does appear to be making use of HT in the CPU usage graphs, its a very CPU / Multithread hungry game particularly in the later stages of each game.

    Has anyone has Turbo EVO stop working? When I start mine it looks like its running (in task manager), but the window never comes up. I even tried uninstalling and re-installing and resetting the system to the defaults.

    PCIe and SLI Question

    I am about to start building my new system and I have a question relating to SLI and the recommended configuration. The manual recommends using slot 1 and 3 for SLI, but can I use slot 2 and 4 instead?
    The reason is that I am considering an OCZ Revo SSD for slot for the x4 slot and MB will be inverted so my H20 blocks on VC's will not be visible if I have to use slot 1 and 3.
    TIA

    Put them where you like, take a look here, there is almost no difference between x8 and x16 unless you are using 3 monitors at 120 hz

    My 950 can't pass 4.3GHz fully stable so i think the problem is the cpu, not MB because the 980x goes like wind on the same RIIIE :/.
