    yeah thats old drivers mate..

Another thing I find funny is AMD/Intel would snipe any of our Moms on a grocery run if it meant good quarterly results, and you are forever whining about what feser did?

    Thank you,
But by the way, what's wrong with my PC P&C? No problems with it at all, decent quality, 750W...so why spend another $200 on a new one? It's not like I'm using crossfire, so I have plenty of power to spare....

Keep in mind this is an aging system....QX9650 @ 4 ghz....still unsure how the P5W DH will handle a 6970...guess I'll find out in a few days :P

I'm already going to buy a new PSU for either my sandy Bridge or i7 990X/995 build (whichever is fastest and overclocks the best), so why buy two? :/

You do, no doubt about that. Just use the adapters provided with the card. Or buy in the market, if you're unhappy about the quality of adapters. Infact i'll recommend another use for your money. Order two HD6950's (head right now to newegg), instead of one HD6970.

On other note. HD 6970 was too sweet a deal to miss for me... single slot mobo, as yet. So i got that XFX flavoured one ordered for me I'll see when Antille pops up, if i could upgrade :P

From the pictures on newegg .. it would seem that Sapphire is the only one giving out a mini-dp->dp converter? Or is everyone giving these out?

Well i was comparing 1920x1200. It's closest to my monitors res 1080p. Anyway this is boring neither 580 nor 6970 is a worthwhile upgrade for me. Where is that Keplar.

if i was to upgrade it probly go a 570 as it runs cooler and less heat, or pick up 2x 6950s..

What does it do? Easy enough, it swaps the shader count. The 'normal' count is 1920 for a 205W 6970 card, and the switch opens up the full force of all 2520 shaders. The reason this switch is set to 'low' is that between the clock speed advances, 730MHz/1920 shaders to 920MHz/2520 shaders, it blows the card through the 300W cap for PCIe cards.

This switch is an elegant way of going from sub-GTX570 performance to way way way over GTX580 performance, and still getting PCIe certification. Very slick guys, well done. If you don't have the right drivers though, the switch does basically nothing, which is why those who bough the card retail haven't seen the results they think they should get.

None of the reviews have even mentioned this ... so hard to see what the performance would be like (though I'd agree .. it be one hell of an upgrade).

Nice to see some info finally and everyone can come back to reality. Guess things will tone down a bit now that gpu final exams for the year are over with.

Good performance for a good price but I really think they should have set the bar just a little higher for cayman.

The war front moves on to Sandy Bridge and Bulldozer now!

They're available on Newegg. Booyah, bought one two minutes after launch.

The prices were legit. $370 for the 6970, $300 for the 6950.
Particle's First Rule of Online Technical Discussion:
As a thread about any computer related subject has its length approach infinity, the likelihood and inevitability of a poorly constructed AMD vs. Intel fight also exponentially increases.

    Rule 1A:
Likewise, the frequency of a car pseudoanalogy to explain a technical concept increases with thread length. This will make many people chuckle, as computer people are rarely knowledgeable about vehicular mechanics.

    Rule 2:
When confronted with a post that is contrary to what a poster likes, believes, or most often wants to be correct, the poster will pick out only minor details that are largely irrelevant in an attempt to shut out the conflicting idea. The core of the post will be left alone since it isn't easy to contradict what the person is actually saying.

    Rule 2A:
When a poster cannot properly refute a post they do not like (as described above), the poster will most likely invent fictitious counter-points and/or begin to attack the other's credibility in feeble ways that are dramatic but irrelevant. Do not underestimate this tactic, as in the online world this will sway many observers. Do not forget: Correctness is decided only by what is said last, the most loudly, or with greatest repetition.

    Rule 3:
When it comes to computer news, 70% of Internet rumors are outright fabricated, 20% are inaccurate enough to simply be discarded, and about 10% are based in reality. Grains of salt--become familiar with them.

Remember: When debating online, everyone else is ALWAYS wrong if they do not agree with you!

    Random Tip o' the Whatever
You just can't win. If your product offers feature A instead of B, people will moan how A is stupid and it didn't offer B. If your product offers B instead of A, they'll likewise complain and rant about how anyone's retarded cousin could figure out A is what the market wants.

Learn to read, actually read the article. It's nothing but a joke and some people seem set on believing that it's real.

Proof? Charlie himself even hinted at it.

Wow. So after 140+ pages of rumors, it ends in disappointment. Makes me wonder if Bulldozer is going to be a bust. lol

Ahahaha, finally it's unveiled, thx God.

Now, i can keep my posting right & actually win my bet, but honestly, not in the best way i could have hoped for. Certainly nice value proposition, but i will actually be happier with a US$ 449 Cayman XT that's performing at ~GTX 580 level.

This all over the places performance test result, one has to wonder whether it was because of immature driver, or the character of the mArch itself. Glass half full or empty case i guess.
