probably fake. 1920 shaders at 900mhz would have been much faster than 580. to be 5% slower it cant be that well specced.

Guys, GPU-Z isn't reading how many shaders are actually on the card. It only displays whatever w1zzard programmed into the program to display for a given hardware ID. It's also easy to change the values in that program just by overwriting bits of its memory space--no image manipulation required, so you can't really ever take a GPU-Z shot as gospel.
Particle's First Rule of Online Technical Discussion:
As a thread about any computer related subject has its length approach infinity, the likelihood and inevitability of a poorly constructed AMD vs. Intel fight also exponentially increases.

    Rule 1A:
Likewise, the frequency of a car pseudoanalogy to explain a technical concept increases with thread length. This will make many people chuckle, as computer people are rarely knowledgeable about vehicular mechanics.

    Rule 2:
When confronted with a post that is contrary to what a poster likes, believes, or most often wants to be correct, the poster will pick out only minor details that are largely irrelevant in an attempt to shut out the conflicting idea. The core of the post will be left alone since it isn't easy to contradict what the person is actually saying.

    Rule 2A:
When a poster cannot properly refute a post they do not like (as described above), the poster will most likely invent fictitious counter-points and/or begin to attack the other's credibility in feeble ways that are dramatic but irrelevant. Do not underestimate this tactic, as in the online world this will sway many observers. Do not forget: Correctness is decided only by what is said last, the most loudly, or with greatest repetition.

    Rule 3:
When it comes to computer news, 70% of Internet rumors are outright fabricated, 20% are inaccurate enough to simply be discarded, and about 10% are based in reality. Grains of salt--become familiar with them.

Remember: When debating online, everyone else is ALWAYS wrong if they do not agree with you!

    Random Tip o' the Whatever
You just can't win. If your product offers feature A instead of B, people will moan how A is stupid and it didn't offer B. If your product offers B instead of A, they'll likewise complain and rant about how anyone's retarded cousin could figure out A is what the market wants.

Just use this and draw your own assumptions:

    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/produc...ortby=priceAsc

w/o VAT the cheapest 6950 would be $287.64

w/0 VAT the cheapest 6970 would be $373.67

No idea if those prices are marked up or not and no idea if that's what it'll show up as here, could be cheaper or more expensive. We'll know soon enough though.

Judging from product positioning in the UK, the 6950 is just a nudge above the GTX 470 and 6870 in terms of pricing, so you can probably take your best guess from that.

Compare with GTX 580. The cheapest GTX 580 on that site is 470 pounds and the 6970 is 280 pounds.

According to this, wherever you are, multiplying GTX 580 price with 60 percent should give your 6970 price. Taking into account 580's MSRP is $499 6970's MSRP could actually be $299 (more like $349, though)

I hate to say this, but it looks like KitGuru was right when they said "the cards' performances will be slightly below Nvidia but they will be priced insanely"

240 British pounds sterling = 378.6480 US dollars

Looks suspiciously like the MSRP for the 58xx at launch. Those poor, poor early adopters of the GTX580. Bent over the barrel and done dry without the courtesy of a reach around or a even a thank you. $120-$170 seems like an awfully stiff premium to pay for a month in the e-peen light. On a side note it does look like Nvidia has sold out what stock of GTX580 they had. The egg beater is completely out of stock.

Yep, I'm betting roughly 58xx launch prices... well, sans the gouging but with a hard launch, I doubt it'll be bad... look at all those AIBS!

Deja Vu to the 4870 launch this. Looks like AMD have got another winner on their hands. Low price, lower power draw, high performance, low noise. I take it Nvidia will be offering refunds before friday again?

so if the OcUK prices are correct we have a new 4870 on our hands as the pricedifference on 6970 and gtx 580 is 190 pounds

I might go for dual 6850s or 6950s depending on the price in sweden, this would go so well with my new bulldozer cpu who's gonna accompanying me in april 2011

Considering ocUK sells GTX 570 for around 279£, 6970 msrp will be around the same as GTX 570, or perhaps a tenner or two more. Now it's only the question of how much performance it has compared to a GTX 570.
