    Which 6870/6850 are you getting?

What manufacture will you choose and why?

Also, what card(s) are you upgrading from?

I ordered the gigabyte 6870 yesterday. I've never owned a gigabyte card but they make very reliable motherboards. 3 year warranty @ $239 and it has a pretty sweet design on the card to top it off.

Upgrading from an MSI 4890 1GB

I received my Sapphire 6870 in the mail yesterday, didn't get to play much with it, but did get a little Dirt2 and F1 2010 action in, mainly just checking that the new card could do 2048x1152 with all settings max and 8x AA on. It performed very nicely and i expect a good weekend

    Upgraded from a Sapphire 4870 1GB. I finally get some DX11 action.

Ordered a Sapphire 6870, will be here tomorrow. No particular reason why I went with Sapphire though; I've had their cards in the past and didn't have any issues so why not right?

    ocx, nice choice

took Powercolor. I took it because it was in stock and was cheapest. Cool graphics is nice bonus

it replaces hot powerhungry 4850 which I bought at same price as was for 6850

^^ I wish they wouldn't have been $10 higher than the other reference cards, I would have loved to have gotten the MSI.

Got a Gigabyte 6850 non reference model and so far it works great, love the cooler and the cooling. I wish the 6870's were non reference coolers because I was never a fan of ATI's reference coolers anyway, at least this one looks somewhat better than the 58xx series, never liked that stupid "batmobile" design anyway.

Not gonna buy one, but in general I like MSI, Sapphire, and Powercolor. Back in the day I always went with the BBA (Built BY ATI) brand. I really like MSI nowadays for my vid cards & mainboards though.

Got a pair of Sapphires installed. Love how cool and quiet they are to my old 4870. Even though they don't exhaust outside of the case, the rest of my hardware is still running cooler than it did with 4870. I can currently max out the settings in all the games I play at 1920x1200 with smooth frame rates. Great cards.

MSI really has come a long way. I had two of their 8800 GTS 512mb's and upgrading two MSI 4890's. All of which have never had a single problem which i was worried about because they only provided a 1 year warranty back then. It's good to see them step up in the warranty department though.

Clud3d are quite good, I have an overclocked 1gb 4870hd for 2 years now and payed the same price as you 2 years ago.

But the real question here is, why are any of you guys buying a 6870hd when the 5870hd is faster, I'm confused and it isn't even much of an upgrade from a 4870.

I'll probs upgrade soon but it will be at least a 6970hd, will wait till I see what nvidia have to offer before pulling the trigger, depending on how good the price is might just get it anyway.

I upgraded from a 4890 and it's a major upgrade. the 5870 is only marginally better at stock speeds, the 6870 runs cooler, more efficient and only $240.

    1) Have you looked at the price difference between a 5870 and 6870? The 5870 hasn't dropped in price enough to make them a deal yet and because they cost more to manufacture than a 68xx does they will likely remain with skewed prices until demand drops significantly (after 69xx arrives at the very least).
    2) Newer technology is generally favored over the previous generation even when they are near the same performance. This is basic human psychology here... Some people care about the extra bells and whistles like DX11 and Eyefinity which your 4870 and my 4850 don't have. For me it's not an issue but others are entitled to their insatiable need for eye candy.

Not gonna buy one, I've got two 5870, since I'm waiting for the high end card to come out so can compare performance to make up my mind if I'm gonna get nVidia or ATi.
