There's an n-body simulation software for R6xx and above which gave me 1 TFLOPS out of my 4890 (peak TFLOPS of my card is somewhere above 1.2 TFLOPS). It's just a peak theoretical flops.
Simple, it's just a marketing tool, except that the numbers they are telling are the truth and reachable only on softwares that really take AMD's uarch to its fullest potential. I think SETI, milkyway, and some other DC can do this. IIRC, there's a DC that brings up heat load as much as furmark. Isn't that the case with all processors?
Plus, if Barts is ~3 TFLOPS, that would mean GTX480 or close to GTX480 performance. Pretty crazy for 960 shaders.
