Unhappy Man do I need help... only 8gigs out of 12 gigs...

I have been every where looking to sort out a ram problem that I have (and others too). Only 8gigs out of 12 gigs visible...

I have done the following - re-seat memory many times, CPU twice, tried with 3 dimms (only 4gb shows up), tweak the voltage settings in the bios in so many combinations that it's too much to type, even got hold of the 0704 beta bios the other day.

    I have a 1000W CM PSU, i7 980x, KVR1333D3N9K3/6 x2, Asus Nvidia 9600GT, 3ware controller card with 9T raid 5. I really need this extra ram as I do video editing.

CPU-Z and DL Memtest86 sees the ram by the way, but bios and windows 7 x64 does not! Asus has been no help and Kingston is telling me it's the mb.

I really need some help here, been banging my head against the wall for the last 2 weeks. Not to mention my case weighs over 100 pounds and tired of moving it out...

Well Ive managed to have a good play with this board tonight.

Seems my I7 920 doesnt like to go over the 200bclk was trying 210 and multi of 20 but couldnt get stable.

now running 200 x 21 and running sweet

flashed to 0704, reseated cpu new thermal paste, reseated ram.

played with some volts and voila finally a stable pc at 4.2ghz.

now to finnish my water rig and put the doors back on this case

thank you to fmsam very good tips from you

Welcome to XS westokyo. Has this 12 gigs ever showed up in bios and Windows before? Or has it always been gone since you put the system together? Sounds to me like the CPU did not seat both times, only trying twice isn't enough imo. I would look at the pins under a magnifying glass to see if there are any bent pins (if thats even possible). Almost everyone here has solved the missing memory problems by re-seating the cpu. If not, I think its time you RMA because you could have a cpu socket or memory socket problem. One last thing to try would be to fire her up with only one stick in slot 1, then do the same for slot 2, and then slot 3 and so on. If the comp does not fire up one of those times then you have a bad connection somewhere, either the cpu socket or memory slot. If you do find a slot not working, you could then try another stick in that same non working slot just to see if its the stick you just tried. I have a feeling you probably tried this though. Let us know please...

Your welcome westokyo. When I was referring to bent pins I meant the ones within the cpu socket though, but that is highly unlikely I'm sure.

Here's a great idea from THC. Maybe eva2000 can help you out. I sure hope its something simple and you dont have to RMA this wonderful board. This missing memory thing has been troubling me as I hope it never happens to my memory.

Haha, I wish... 980X is WAY over my budget. I had to spend my entire (well not entire, but sure felt like it) yearly bonus from work just to get this current kit as it was. Unfortunately 980x will only be a dream for me. I am waiting for mainstream 6 core CPU's and will probably upgrade to that as a Christmas gift to myself later this year, lol.

Thanks mate yeh the 2xuncore at that speed is pretty stressful. Good thing on the EE's the max vtt is 1.4 vs non-ee so can run higher ram/uncore combos.

All chips are fun if they're good....my friend has a 980x that needs 1.38 for 4.2 he is not happy

    i7 930 3002A725 4ghz HT on with 12GB RAM, Linx 100 pass stable at high priority, max RAM allocation. 201BCLK x 21
    RIIE 0602, 12GB RAM @ 1532mhz CL9, Venomous X with push/pull fans.
    Vcore set in BIOS: 1.2375V
    Vcore measured by BIOS: 1.24V
Vcore reported by CPU-Z during torture test: fluctuation from 1.248V to 1.264V to 1.272V
Vcore measured by multimeter: 1.244V <--I believe this to be accurate and precise (repeated measurements yield 1.244V)

I think this is quite a good chip...hmm?

PS: Full line load calibration enabled.
PS: Also passes P95 small and blend 8 hrs.

I have been through this... Is there so sort of CPU, Ram calculator I could use for my setup to try the sure fire voltage, timings settings(Ram3Extr, 1000W CM PSU, i7 980x, KVR1333D3N9K3/6 x2, Asus Nvidia 9600GT)?

First time poster, but i've been following the thread for awhile now. That is some nice work, justin c. I have a similar setup, but I need to crank the voltage. Here are my settings:

    CPU 1.4V
    CPU PLL 1.84V
    QPI/DRAM 1.4V
    IOH 1.35 v
    ICH AUTO (1.11V)
    DRAM 1.68V

    BCLK 200
    Multitplier 21
RAM 1603 @ 7-8-7-24 2N (stock Mushkin Ridgeback is supposed to be 1600 6-8-6-24 2N, I had to loosen the timings to pass a night of memtest)
Corsair H50 on the CPU with two 1900 rpm fans in push/pull config acting as a rear air intake

I seem to be fairly stable, except I cannot pass prime95 over 24 hours. I am wondering what else I should change.

    pc probe problems

i got my 980x cpu watercooled when i boot up from cold and run everest it detects the cpu temp around 22c-24c.But when i run pc probe it takes the temp up to 38c-36c sometimes even 40c.Then at this stage when i run pc probe the temp goes up on my everest app to what pc probe is reading.Wierd i have reset the cpu twice and same problem.i really dont know which one is right reading.I got the same watercooling setup that i had on me asus striker and me cpu on that use to read 24-26 idle with pc probe.I am hearing there could be a fault with the sensor.Anyone else having wrong readings .

Hello everybody, am new to the forum and this is my 1st post

I wanted to get to 4.2 Ghz but it's getting impossible , I can go to the windows, play ect ... but when I start making stability tests are then gives errors freezes or blue ,
this time after much research and headaches always got to 4.0GHz stable with these temps:

    sync mode: ENABLE

    Ai overclock Tuner: MANUAL
OC from CPU level up: AUTO

    CPU Ratio setting: 21
    CPU Turbo power limit: DISABLE

    Cpu configiguration:

    BCLK Freq: 190
    PCIE Freq: 100
    Dram Freq: DDR3-1523MHZ
    UCLK Freq: AUTO
    QPI Link Data Rate: AUTO

    Memory Configuration protect: DISABLE
    Dram timing Control

    Cpu Differential Amplitude: 800MV
    CPU clock skew: DELAY 300PS
    IOH Clock skew: AUTO

    Digi+ pwr mode: X-POWER
    pwm volt control: AUTO
    Load-line calibraction: FULL CALIBRATION
    CPU voltage OCP: ENABLE
    CPU PWM Freq: AUTO

    Extreme OV: DISABLE
    Extreme OC: AUTO

    CPU voltage: 1.27500
    CPU pll voltage: 1.81525
    QPI/Dram core voltage(vtt): 1.26250
    Dram Bus voltage: AUTO
    IOH voltage: 1.20575
    IOH pcie voltage: AUTO
    ICH voltage: 1.20575
    ICH pcie voltage: AUTO

    CPU spread spectrum: DISABLE
    PCIE spread spectrum DISABLE

    Intel HT Technology: ENABLE

Obviously the 4.2 will be impossible for my processor, I've exhausted all possible bios, 0402 / 0534 / 0602 / and now I am with the 0702 beta,
we'll going to see, something to say about my overclockink guys? something wrong there?

I've done a 128465468 possible combinations and never got stability, where meth bclk 200 never get stability, there will be something that is failing me?

hae you tried the 0704 BIOS, its 100% better than the rest for me personaly running a 920 stable at 4.2ghz, i can reach 4.4ghz to now after some voltage tweeks.
