    @Dark-Energy
are you using setting from an older higher vid chip?
if so thats the problem.you need to find what the new chip needs in terms
of vtt.mch ref,cpu ref to make it stable.

I lowered Vcore in the bios to 1.30625 with LLC, and CPU-z shows 1.280v (under load) and still got the freezing so I bumped clock skews up to 150/200 (CPU/MCH) and got it to stop freezing (I think) but it only gets to about 30 seconds of LinX before BSODing with error code 124. I recall this same BSOD before but it didn't happen nearly as often. Now I did some searching and found that it has something to do with the VTT being too high or low but that was with i7 systems. Does the same thing apply to C2Q/C2D processors? Other sources say it's a generic hardware error and could be anything. Changing VTT from 1.24 - 1.4 doesn't seem to have any effect on correcting the problem though. Perhaps I am missing something? The last thing I want to do is raise the Vcore, for I am absolutely certain, for the extremely low stock VID of the chip, that it has nothing to do with it, as I have not gotten a BSOD 101, which relates to Vcore.

Any of you out there with low VID chips on this board mind helping me out? Is it possible that maybe lower VID chips might need completely different settings versus what is normally used? I mean in terms of VTT, MCH, PLL, references, etc

Well no, I'm not using the same settings from my E8400 (higher VID) but the settings are rather similar in terms of VTT and CPU ref. MCH too, but the MCH ref was much lower on my dual, on this quad I had to bump it one notch to stop prime from erroring

I know sorry I had it downloaded but I reformatted and upgraded to Windows 7....my instability hasn't changed though so that's a good thing...I can rule it out being the OS or HD

With a little help from andressergio and TeamViewer I got up to 4250Mhz. Voltages are kinda high but I am in the process of lowering everything without touching Vcore yet. Disappointed in the CPU voltage for a low VID chip and good board but it looks like the cooling can handle it for now(temps are the least of my worries thankfully). Got rid of the infamous freezing by raising clock skews (again) and for the first time I got Prime to error finally which was a huge relief; upped one notch on Vcore and passed 8K.

Finally at a stable OC but got a long way to go, but this is a good start.

Next step? The brutal time consuming tweaking.

next step - up the FSB! I managed 506x9 stability on my extreme board on the 8.5 multi but NB began to crap out on anything above that on my extreme, memory volts are very high, I'm guessing your ram is rated up to that? Must run hot!

My USB3P has left customs so my board's arrival is imminent- at last!

Yeah the ram is rated for 2.2-2.3 but I needed 2.3 for complete stability

    Doesn't run hot though

This is what the ram looks like, big heatspreaders FTW

    There's a DRR3 version too.

glad to help mate and happy to see you are happy, dont worry for the volts there's time to bring them down, i tested like that so we can have a good start point and we did

For what it's worth, my Kingstong HyperX DDR2-1150 (2x1GB) kit has 2.30-2.35 on the sticker (see my sig). They would not even boot at 500FSB with 2.4B multi for 1200 MHz RAM until I lowered volts to arouns 2.20-2.24 and remained stable. Maybe worth a try...more volts not always the answer, sometimes lower volts is better!

Sorry mate, I completely missed that part of the post!

The only reason I mentioned the RAM voltage was because the EP45 range (from my experience) seems to overvolt the ram by about 0.1-0.2 volts, and like Bluestang says, can cause instability. Now I've looked back properly, I completely agree - a good starting point with a little headroom for some higher clocks. Good luck with it ;D

yes its true mate but darkenergy was freezin in win over and over and randomly crashing, so i went for a sure setup wich i squeezed form my templates now we will lower volts

Update. I did some tweaking cause I ran into a few bumps in the road, got error in Prime 8x8 on the same core that failed before so I bumped CPU ref one notch in bios and it fixed the problem but then I ran into the blue screens 124 Error and some freezing requiring a restart and that was 2.2 Vdimm and 1.42 MCH so I bumped mem back to 2.3v fixed blue screen but then got some freezing issues so I played around with clock skews and fixed it again(I think, hopefully), but I bumped MCH to 1.44 as well...so really the only thing I did was change MCH down one notch and bump CPU ref one notch up from where I originally was. Will do some more tweaking today..... I was up pretty late last night.

Don't think MCH needs a fan though, I put my finger on the heatpipe close to the heatsink after a long period of testing and it was pretty warm, and a bit uncomfortable on the back of my finger. So I guess it is maybe 60C-65C? If it is unstable due to heat what will happen?

Did some Vantage testing too. Results came back at 17200 CPU score and 19400 GPU score for an overall score of P18808. Everest memory test was good. Read was 9200, broke 10k with write and copy, and the latencies are decent (55 ns)

edit: ok I am pretty sure it is stable now....

My USB3P and G.Skill Eco's have finally arrived! Spent last night backing up ready for a fresh install and some O/C sessions so watch this space over the weekend. I'll finally be lapping my CPU too just to get the most out of my last 775 setup

Dark Energy, nice going - I would run Prime small ffts through to around 16k, the CPU can crap out on 10-12k tests if vcore is a little too low. Just out of curiosity, what is everyone's weakest core?

Yup same here, core 2 always seems the next one to go - I wonder if it's something to do with power distribution over each die.

Anyway - I'm gonna shut down, lap CPU, then put new mobo in and tweak the night away - wish me luck!

I know the cpu can do better but memory was the limiting factor

    Hope u like my work

Wow, had a bit of a big scare and honestly thought I would have to ship the board back across the ocean as it wouldn't switch on after mounting the board in my case. I was actually suspecting PSU for a while until I tried another board and it worked. Luckily after mounting it all back in it started up and upon further thoughts, I think I had the power & reset switces the wrong way around - DOH! Anyway, currently testing the board and all seems to be great except my CPU temps - the lapping may not have benefitted me as much as I thought, and that damned 1st core is soaring even at 1.35v .

Managed to get close to DDR2000 stable with the G.Skill Ecos though, but they ran very hot above 1.58v so I've backed down to 1600 7-7-7-19 which still gives nice bandwidth at just 1.45v. I've gotta check my loop and the evenness of the CPU (which I'm certain is flat because it was virtually picking up the glass I lapped it against when trying to lift it), so my guess is a poor mount - will be back with some screens sometime soon

Those extreme boards are the best for 775 duallies and they've broken a FSB record or two! Good work, very impressive FSB and clock for an E8400! Nearly 2v though - eeek!!

thanks radaja ... u're kind words are always appreciated
now if only i could get hold of a good kit of ddr2 capable of 1300+ to see what this chip is really made of or a mainboard with ddr3 so there would be no memory limitation ...
this chip can do better, much better ... I know it can ... i can feel it

In-Fluence ... I'm glad your mobo is ok ... they are damn fine boards these EP45-Extreme's. FSB records were brocken with EP45T-Extreme boards ... the ddr3 ones, not with ddr2 parts. And about voltage ... that was only 1.6V real on cpu ( the CPU I think could do it all with 1.5v but temp where good so I gave it just to be sure )... but after about 5 hours of torture under dice the sensors went south and started missreporting Vcore and Vdimm by about +0.3.
Mobo and cpu are still in best condition ... right in the system I am using for responding to u. Well built and werry robust motherboard .
I'm also waitin' for the pics of your rig

Not much for the moment, but this 500x8.5 was easy enough. Like I say, having real temperature problems at the moment, not sure if my loops got a bubble somewhere or if block isn't mounted right.

I found the CPU was definitely not flat during lapping as you can see from this pic mid-way through, I think partly due to a slight 'dent' caused by the smaller contact area of the XSPC Delta V3 block (you can just make out the square). The apogee XT has a big, flat surface which I hoped would make the difference, but as you can see above, something isn't quite right

But the finished result loos ok to me:

I'll be getting my rig out shortly, so I'll get some snaps of it with this board in there, and hopefully resolve this temp issue. My ambient temp is currently a scorching 31°C in my loft flat at the moment but temps should definitely be a few °C better than this.
