Has anyone else that uses this board experienced issues with the network ports/NICs failing?
I've had several occasions that both of my network ports begin failing both in Windows and Linux. In Windows, I receive an error about it being unable to start the device. In Ubuntu, it simply doesn't recognize it correctly whenever I start experiencing this problem. However, I've found out that if I reset my BIOS, both NICs begin working again in both OSes. It's a strange issue, but apparently it must be hardware related since the issue persists even across different systems.
I spent about 5 hours trying to get to the bottom of the issue, but I finally went back to the solution I knew would solve the problem, which was resetting the BIOS settings. I tried formatting and installing Windows several times and also using about 4 different drivers, but nothing gave. I tried disabling the quick boot option and that didn't do anything either.
I'm using the latest BIOS, and it's worth mentioning that even while experiencing this issue, the Smart Lan option in the BIOS successfully detected a network connection without any errors. I can't think of anything other than some sort of glitch in the board itself. Has anyone else had similar experiences?
On top of these network issues, I've experienced some weird issues with the boot priority settings where the correct device is not booted. For an example, even though my first boot device is a hard drive and my primary hard drive is selected as my Samsung drive, it tries to boot to an external usb western digital drive instead. I have to unplug my external drive sometimes to get it to boot.
I thought about RMAing the board because these weird issues really get annoying when they appear. However, the board does seem fine in other areas. I can overclock my processor and memory a little more with this board than I could with my P5W DH Deluxe and whenever the system is up and running, there are no problems what so ever.
The system is prime stable and runs very smoothly. However, if I unplug my system for a little while to do some cleaning, when I boot back up my network ports sometimes will not work until I reset my BIOS. The problem doesn't occur every time I cut the power, but that seems to be a pretty decent diagnosis for the cause of the problem, since I've cut the power every time I've experience this issue.
Anyone got any suggestions? Should I do an RMA? Is there something I should try?
Thanks
Mine failed the other day on me but, I couldn't get mine to come back so I just purchased a nice Intel NIC. I had to get a whole new Windows 7 key because of this too I'll add..
