Allright! Thank you very much. Which one is anti-throttle?
EDIT: I tried both and they both throttle.
Also, either of them permits to flash the 0052v over them.

Ditto - tried 804. No user option to turn off turbo throttle AND it still throttles on W3520 running at 21x206, for example. Frequency drops to 4200 when LinX is running. Useless like this when you have a chip that's good for 4400+.
Is it not possible to get a real non throttle BIOS for the P6T7? Even the 0052 throttled for me.![]()

I have 3 x P6T7 WS, with 980X,
and all three throttling with 0607,0701,0804.
Also, I know few more people with P6T7 WS all with the same problem.
I had more than 20 asus boards, and first time see stuff like this.
Also this boards is too expencive to have a problem like this for this long time.
The problem exists on the P6T7 and P6T6 WS Pro boards currently. Apparently the P6T6 Revolution has been fixed with a BIOS that allows the user to turn this feature off.
As the previous poster said I have the same issue. With 980X as soon as a multiplier above 25 is selected, loading will result in the multiplier falling back. This is extremely frustrating to say the least.
Users that say they don't have throttling are either not using the turbo multiplier, not loading the CPU high enough or using a program that is incorrectly reading the multiplier/CPU speed in real time, etc.
Try a ES version of AFUDOS with a bootable thumb drive. This is a little old, might look for a newer AFUDOS. http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=179580, used this to flash my P5E to RF and back and forward. Scroll down to the Maximus / P5E to Ramapge Conversion

Thanks for the updates, everyone.
Still using 0052v and don't plan to update until a bios that specifically fixes the throttling issue is released.
Once this issue is resolved, I will be in heaven!
Outside of the throttling, the P6T7 absolutely rocks - Great MOBO Asus!

Hey everyone, I solved my throttling problem on my Asus P6T7Don't know if it will fix everyone's but before it used to throttle a lot after 4.25 GHz on my i7 920. However, after I disabled the CPU TM Function under Advanced -> CPU Configuration -> CPU TM Function in the bios, I get a constant 21X multiplier lock upwards so far to 4.4 GHz. For reference, I have the 0804 Bios. It seems the TM function is the thermal management function which is tripped when overclocking high and causes the multiplier to drop. Hope this helps!

yeah, I'm currently using the 0804 bios too - I tried to disable the TM function but it still throttles. Actually I tried it before and it didn't work then - I just decided to try it again when I saw yuor post. These no-throtling bioses are very weird - I have been using the 0052 for several months and it didn't throttle then I reflashed it and it started throttling.....

I'm beginning to think this issue is never going to be fixed.
With 980s multipliers higher than 25 are also useless!
i think it is sad that they dont fix this, its a damn good board.
I got a Classified cheap, but if they come with a bios that fix it..the P6T7 is going back in my pc![]()

I was referring to the frequency at where it starts to drop the multiplier. Mine used to at 4.3 GHz and up but its all good now.
So there's some boards that were throttling with the 0052 bios but most weren't and for current bios most are reporting throttling but mine is gone. We are obviously missing something here...

Ok well I was bored and wanted to see if I can stably raise my cpu some more (I've only tried 4.3 and 4.4, 4.4 being unstable) So I bumped it up to 207 x 21 with 1.5 Vcore to start ...windows loaded fine, ran prime95, 4 minutes later....throttling!Ahhh! Well that sucks, apparently it isn't gone. Put it back down to 205 x 21 with 1.4, all stable again, no throttling. Hm, so I did some experimenting. I kept it at 4.3 GHz but raised the Vcore to 1.5, loaded up, prime95...throttling. Well that's interesting. Tried different Vcores and here's what I got.
4.3 GHz:
1.500 V (Load temps ~90C) - Throttling
1.475 V (Load temps ~84C) - Throttling (But much less, drops multiplier to 20X for one second once or twice every minute)
1.450 V (Load temps ~81C) - No throttling
1.425 V (Load temps ~79C) - No throttling
These tests were only run for 15 min but I feel it is accurate in depicting the multiplier throttling problem.
So for me it's either the voltage or cpu temps that seem to correlate with the throttling. The only thing that confuses me is when I had originally thought it was gone I ran 210 x 21 and it didn't throttle at all but kept freezing up when I ran prime95. Maybe it would freeze before it was going to throttle? I gave up on it when 1.525V still wasn't enough.
I feel like the voltage is more likely the culprit for tripping it but the temps would make sense because the throttling at 1.5V became more prevalent as prime went on and temps rose higher. Maybe it could be both, maybe it's neitherI dropped back to my stable 4.3GHz @ 1.41V state and it looks like it's going to remain there. Dear Asus, I would really like a new bios. Thank you
EDIT: I actually started reading more pages in this thread and realized this has already been discussed but oh well never hurts to replicate results for confirmation

Here's what the November 2008 Intel Turbo White Paper says:
1.2 Dependencies / Algorithm
Intel® Turbo Boost technology core frequency upside availability is ultimately constrained by power delivery limits, but within those constraints, it is limited by the following factors:
• The estimated current consumption of the processor
• The estimated power consumption of the processor
• The temperature of the processor
--------------------------------------------------------
Bios 0052 works OK for many Quad Core owners to prevent throttling so give that a try.
http://www.mediafire.com/?1nq4wuny2ng
If you're not yet using i7 Turbo to keep a close eye on throttling then give that a try too.
http://www.fileden.com/files/2008/3/3/1794507/Turbo.zip
Maybe I'll try to get a 6 core version of i7 Turbo done someday soon.
All, great information. Would like to see if BIOS 0052 will work with the Xeon W3550? I know that this CPU was added to one of the middle BIOS revisions, so not sure if it works with 0052.
This throttling is killing this board, I know it's still a good board but it could be great.
Will just have to keep waiting for ASUS to help us out on this.
