No this IS the white acetal range, I didn't beat him to the punch at all. I bought one the day they became available.

I asked Eddy about custom engraving a while back, unfortunately he replied that they don't do that, and anyway it would not show up well in white acetal. He's right about that, too bad nonetheless.

Thanks to Charles for THIS guide from a while back on staggering solder joints.

Tip: When you're doing fans, you can attach them to any old triple grill to work on sleeving, soldering extensions, crimping, cutting wires to length, etc. It's the same as attaching them to a rad, but less cumbersome, and it keeps things neat.

<3 <3 the little cable clips on these fans.

Next up, installing them. Thanks for looking!

Man you photography skills are incredible.

I'm in the process of learning to take nice shots because hopefully my SLR will arrive Monday. So, would you be able
to tell me the aperture you used to get the great blurring effect? is it around F/1.4 or can you get it with say 2.8??
It may have nothing to do with aperture at all, but like i said, i'm learning

callen...I would gladly trade my rudimentary photography knowledge for your Godlike machining skills. In a split-second. I must warn you it would not be a fair trade.

Handheld I stay between f1.8 ~ f2.8 because I don't have a studio lighting setup and my living room is not that bright. f1.4 works in a pinch (like if I just finished something but it's 2am and I still want to upload something) but I try to avoid it because the result is not super sharp. The last few were shot at f2 and I liked how they turned out.

Ideally, when I have a tripod out it's f9 all the way. Wide aperture and OOF is a nice effect but this being a worklog I want to show you things dammit! And sometimes blurring 60% of the photo is not the best way to do that. Smaller aperture puts more of the photo in focus, which is great when you want a ton of appreciable detail in one shot.

    Excellent work Kibbler.
Your res and the white rad look perfect in your red case, really happy it all work out for you, all thou I never had any dout it wouldn't.

Nice tip about using a fan grill/mout when working on your fans, I like that one.

I also Really like how you have sleeved the wiring on your fans, I feel it really finishes it off when you sleeve/heatshrink right up to the hub, look heaps better.

Keep up the excellent work mate.

No problem callen, though I am strictly amateur status when it comes to photography compared to the other gurus here, if you have anything to ask I'll do my best to answer.

DSLR certainly helps...but I'd say lighting, correct settings, and proper technique (and a tripod) are even more important!

    Monsoon season (A-lotta-typhoons)

    Fan installation was pretty straightforward.

Typhoons...they're aptly named. They do look like the little typhoon/hurricane icons you see on the weather segment.

Here you can see the cable management running down the side using p-clips attached to the side of the drive bay.

    P-clip #1.

    P-clips #2, #3, #4.

And here's where the fan cables run further into the case. Think I got the lengths just right and they'll cruise just above the rad drain line without touching.

    Thanks for looking.

Loving how the white rad worths with the red in the case ...

Mind me asking what size screws you used to mount the fans to the rad and also where you got them?

That looks really good, Kibbler. Sleeving looks fantastic and so does the paint.

This is just me being picky, but I'm curious why you have two P-clips on that bottom fan and just one on the other two? And have you thought about painting those screws in the fan housing black or white to better match your color scheme?

I know, I'm Mr. Detail. Looks good, though.

    Hehe, hey Albert.

It's true - I have contracted Olympic Fever... living a block from the action made for a pretty wild 2 weeks, that's for sure! Last night was one for the books - what a hockey game!

Kibbs - sorry for the OT my friend!

Thanks jpm, I'm glad you like the color combination. I wasn't sure how it would turn out and was hoping for the best. Turning out pretty well I think.

    I'm using stainless M4 x 30mm socket cap screws from http://www.fastener-express.com

Thanks a lot Graeme and Sharon! I was STRONGLY considering painting the fans after seeing shazza's excellent results, but opting to keep the neutral gray for now.

That is, if I can source Dupli-color/vinyl dye locally then things might change (small chance), but fan painting was never part of my original plan.

I'm not one to give titles to myself or others nonetheless I can always trust you to notice the small important things.

P-clips: I noticed this right away. My goal was to use as few as I could to keep the cables taut at all the right places, and I've accomplished that. But symmetry-wise it doesn't work, that's something my brain is still working on.

Another thing that bothered me is the rad brackets get in the way of the cables, making them not perfectly straight. I'll need to add a nylon washer to each p-clip to "raise" them about 2mm away from the side of the drive bay so the cables can clear the brackets.

Screws: Things have a color map like so...

Case - Red and black (black not as an active element, more as negative space, not meant to attract attention)
Cooling - White and black (again, a negative space thing)
Wiring - [editor's note: cannot be revealed at this time]
    Connections - Silver accents

So fittings and important mounting screws and such are all silver/chrome/SS/etc.

    Side note

I was never terribly interested in the 1156/P55 platform but when I look at the Maximus III Formula, oh dear me that board has the PERFECT color scheme for this build...

Thanks for the response, Kibbler. I was curious about the fan painting, but only because I wondered what color you would be going with. The gray will also be a good choice. I like how you are doing multiple colors in a case where the safe bet would have been red and black only.

edit: just checked out the Maximus III - it looks like you've designed your color scheme just for that board.

Thanks shazza, I'm glad the color combo is working for you. If you (or anyone else) have any other suggestions on aesthetics or otherwise, please don't pull any punches, I'd love to hear them.

On the motherboard front, this looks promising: R3E.

I'm eagerly waiting for previews/reviews of the final production board.

I saw the Crosshair IV Extreme edition a few moments ago and I nearly creamed myself

The color scheme for that R3E fits your build soooooo well you should definitely go with that when it comes out if you haven't moved onto another Project by then.

Awesome job on the sleeving for the GTs, it looks sweet and simplistic.

Damn, now I want to swap the classy for the R3E! Finally, better colors than red, blue, black and white! And those stupid buttons on the side!

Anyway. I can't wait to see the fans painted.

EDIT: I just found the buttons. And the voltage headers. They are more discrete and hidden with the color-scheme of the board.

So awesome to see how well you captured that precise fit of your beatifully outfiitted cooling unit in the drive cage, kibbs!

I do like both boards and they both fit your color theme nicely. However, I'm leaning towards the R3E. Although it doesn't have as much white as the Maximus III, your tubing and white Supreme HF may make up for that, perhaps?

Thoroughly impressive work and I look forward to more
