yes, it was longer than my good old DFI UT, but it didn't feel like "abnormally long". I've disabled some stuff that I don't use, and it's much faster now.

LOL, yeah I could top any list for a long time with this kind of stuff
Working on your list too. This CPU and MB combination seams to have a really good potential, but I've never felt so cooling-limited as now.

Which chip was that on hicookie?

edit: I see you posted a pic. Looks secretive lol! I'll just assume it's a soon-to-be released i7 chip. 1.8v though WOW! I'm not too familiar with sub-zero, but would 1.8v be okay for 24/7 use as long as temps were below zero?

Anybody else is hearing a high pitch sound?

It sounds like a dial-up modem trying to connect, not as load, but very high pitch and penetrating. It starts with the POST, and gets weaker and loader in a periodic cycle.

The sound is really annoying, but I can't locate if it is coming from the MB exactly, but all other components are the same as before.

Glad I am holding off pulling the trigger on this. Sounds really annoying.

I had a similar thing happen to me with a Biostar AM2+ board... but it'd only happen at load. Something related to the PWM IIRC from another forum post.

I had noticed this when I put together a box with an ASRock X58 Extreme and it took me a couple boots to realize that (in my case) it was just the Plextor optical drive spinning even though there wasn't a disc in it.

Disconnected the HDD, and booted from SSD, but still is whining.
It can be coils, it sounds very much like it, but how to diagnose if it is coming from the MB?

If nobody else can confirm the same sound, then maybe I need to take out my other components. i could start with GPU and PSU (got some reserves under the bed ) to test, or something else that could whine too?

Yeah I'm having the same problem, maybe its my power supply, because I'm using the same case and I had a P55 UD6, X58 UD5 and they all made squealing noises. Other people who have this board reported no squealing noises whatsoever.

I'm using the same Corsair HX1000W as before. I've never heard anything from it, but i got another PSU and could change it to test.

The problem is that I have to take apart the whole thing to locate the source . Or maybe other way to diagnose the source?

when you talk about it, i start to listened to my board, and it sounded like vrm, i thought it was my graphic card, but i can't find the source.
    it is not bad right?

Yes, it can be the VRM, too.
It wasn't so bad to start with, but it got more annoying after I first started paying attention and thinking about it.
It is insisting to get more of my attention, all the time. I hope you don't end up there ..

No. It is just annoying to some people. If you run folding@home on an Nvidia GPU you will almost without a doubt get the sound. My videocards squeel 24/7 because of it so it doesn't bother me anymore.

Sam, I haven't heard my board whining yet but I have only had it a few days and I have an Antec 1200 case so all I hear is fans I was able to drop my vcore down a bit to 1.225 with the f3g bios which helped my temps a bit.

Yeah, maybe I shouldn't invest on quiet fans. My CoolerMaster 1000 is kind of soundproof, but i guess it is not so effective against high pitch sounds. I'm glad that i don't have a dog, it is kind of sound that could drive a dog nuts, I guess.

I have been googling, and some other MB seams to have the same problem with VRM. Where is the VRM located on this MB anyways, close to 12v CPU power connector?

hmm, which one would you suggest, the majority of reviews have placed this cooler #1 or at least top 5. If you have something better in mind let me know, I'm all about trying something new if it will help

I'd say either Megahalems or NH-D14.

+1 ... Noctua first and Megahalem second are the best air coolers money can buy

    NH-D14

    Megahalems Rev.B

Both those two came top in our tests with both the Noctua fans and also Scythe Ultra Kaze 3000rpm fans.

I have some very tall Kingston ram and also use the northbridge heatpipe assembly so I was concerned with clearance issues. Will either or both of these work without interference?

Here is a pic as you can see space could be an issue

Megahalems or TRUE would be great. If your not using the first DIMM, either of the 2 will work for you. They both work for me and i'm using all 6 DIMMS, although they arent as tall as the kingston. I use a regular 120mm fan on the memory side, and a 38mm 120 on the exhaust side. I'm experimenting with a different config now. I reversed the back exhaust case fan to bring cold air in the case, then i reversed the flow of the 2 CPU fans. Now Cold air is blown through the CPU cooler instead of hot air from inside the case. Also now there's a ton of air movrment across my memory in this config. My only exhaust is the top 2 120mm fans. Seems to be working good, i didnt note previous temps to compare though. Once i get all my buggz fixed (12gb issues) i'll do a proper comparison of both configs.

Edit: If you decide to go with the megahelm, i wouldnt order it from Frozen CPU. Nothing against Frozen, but thats where i got mine, and it has the wrong mounting bracket in the kit. Maybe somewhere else, like performance pcs, will have a different batch.

The Noctua D-14 is awesome, but i dont think it'll work with the NB Heat pipe asm.
