I am fine when it comes to soldering wires, but there is no-way in hell I would trust myself soldering tiny resistors like these!

Knowing my luck, I'd end up losing the bloody thing.

Here's my latest overclocking results with the UD5 and i920..





I'm well happy with this result, however, I think I need to go out and buy some faster RAM, as I have to underclock these Dominators down to 1260MHz, as my system becomes unstable if I leave the mem multi on 8x, even if I try loosening up timings and pushing more VDimm and Vtt, so I'd like to get either 1866MHz or 2000MHz modules instead of my current ones..

But 4.4GHz is not to shabby imo, I think I can push for more as well!!

You need to increase the nb multi if you want to run your ram faster. For DDR3-1866 you need at least 3700mhz NB/L3 clock (meaning 18 multi with 210mhz blck).

Rule of thumb is NB speed needs to be 2 x mem speed, or your system gets instable.

I often find 2x +2 works great in most situations as well, especially when pushing high overclocks

I know about the uncore and mem multi relationship, I always just set it to 2x that of the mem multi, however, when using the 6x mem multi like I am in those screens above, I have to set uncore to 13x, if you try using 12x the system refuses to POST..

Do you guys reckon if I give it more Vtt I might be able to get my Dominators running at 1680MHz?

What tips can you guys give me for overclocking RAM?

I have tried running the RAM at 1680MHz CAS9 with the processor at 4.4GHz, but it got to about 15 passes of LinX and then stopped due to errors..

I forgot to mention what voltages I was using for those screens above.

Vcore 1.400v (BIOS), Vtt 1.255v, VDimm 1.500v, CPU PLL 1.300v (my system becomes unstable if this is left at stock 1.800v, but if I set it to 1.3v everything seems fine!) IOH core 1.140v, QPI PLL 1.140v.

Hopefully more Vtt will let me run at 1680MHz, I mean, it's only an 80MHz bump in frequency!!

Would like to see those settings for 4.7Ghz - I'm stuck at 4.6ghz atm but older BIOS. Haven't OC'd as much as I'd want to lately.

Is Memtest v4.00 the best program to test my rams stability ?
How many pass should i have to run ?

1860MHz @ CAS6 is really good mate, although, 1 pass of Memtest isn't enough imo, I usually leave it running for at least 8 hours when checking my RAM..

@Bex, for that 4.7GHz CPUZ validation, I just set Vcore to 1.45v (BIOS) Vtt @ 1.335v, and all other voltages are the same as in my post above.

What I had to do to reach 224Bclk was set it to 222MHz in the BIOS, and then once I was in Windows, I used SetFSB to bump it up to 222MHz, as the UD5 has a 222 Bclk wall, so anytime I tried to push more than that via the BIOS, it wouldn't even POST.

The highest I have had Bclk so far was 226MHz, but I can't find my CPUZ validation that I did...

Yes, you can use any BIOS you want with a modded board. The Fxxx BIOS simply allowed you to change PCIE freq in the BIOS was all, with it or any new BIOS you can just use SetFSB to change the PCIE Freq

New BIOS will not be able to change PCIE in the BIOS is all, works fine other than that and I do suggest the latest beta BIOS of course

Does anyone know which of the latest BIOSes is guaranteed to have a working S3 sleep function? I'm still on the F6e BIOS because that one allowed my computer to sleep at the time. Has the issue been permanently resolved?

I just tested F9k at 4.2Ghz for a user last week, worked fine for me. I think the S3 issues have been resolved since the old F8 beta's, maybe even before that for the entire lineup.

If you test F9k and fail, don't give up so quickly and switch back. Many changes have been made (And always are in each BIOS) so old settings may not work, you will need to tweak and retweak your board to get it stable again. Just like when you first bought it.

S3 requires stability, so get that first and it should work for you without issue

Anytime! You could always save your current BIOS (Including profiles) with @BIOS, then flash to the new one (Using QFLASH PLEASE ) and test it out. Then if you don't like it you could flash back your old BIOS and be all set again.

The new BIOSes have many added fixes, improvements, and features. I would check it out for sure, and like I said if you do don't give up on it so quickly, give yourself time to tweak settings a bit and test it out giving it a real chance.

This is very true, when I first tried out F9e, I couldn't get my o/c stable using the same settings as I was on F7, so I ended up going back to F7 again, but a week later, I decided to give F9e another go, and after spending some time tweaking the voltages, I managed to get my system stable using much lower Vcore and Vtt than I was using previously..

When you enable AHCI, the bios wont dedect the hdds, cause they are managed by the intel raid controller.

Anytime! You could always save your current BIOS (Including profiles) with @BIOS, then flash to the new one (Using QFLASH PLEASE ) and test it out. Then if you don't like it you could flash back your old BIOS and be all set again.

I'm having some strange issue flashing to the new beta BIOS (F9k) on my EX58-UD5. I've never had this issue.

I followed all the steps correctly and just tried flashing from F6e to F9k and Q-Flash says "Invalid BIOS file." I tried flashing to the F9e BIOS from Gigabyte's website and it says the same thing.

I also tried to flash with FLASHSPI and it says cannot read BIOS file successfully.

What to do?
