What can we expect from Phenom 2 965 C3?

Im looking forward to this cpu. What can anybody say about past wattage drops in similar cpu's? what kind of increase in overclock does a cpu generally get dropping from 140w to 125w?

What other Phenom 2 cpu's have made a drop like this?? 955? 945? and what was the difference in performance?

I dont have to say that Im looking to try and get 4.3ghz stable for 24/7 on a C3....... Im already at 4.1ghz on this 965 for 24/7, 4.2ghz is pushing the voltage to 1.6v in bios and shows 1.62v in windows without a load on it. But its stable enough to run pretty well and play games as long as its cool enough.

    Opinions?

Personally, I have high hopes for the C3 965's Titan...

My first Phenom was a 9500, I liked it, but looking back it was pretty pathetic..

Aside from the TLB thing, Phenoms have gotten better with every revision so far... The 940 (first C2) was actually a nice chip, and the 550 Unlocked was really hard to beat, most of them unlocked to Quads and did 3.6Ghz easily!
Not too shabby for a $100 CPU!

The fact that AMD put an NDA on a stepping revision is unusual and promising at the same time.....

I can't wait to get my hands on a C3... Will it match Intels offerings? I doubt it!

But will it be a good bang for the buck? Pretty sure it will!

Hopefully we only have a few weeks to go for C3 goodness!
I'm waiting with baited breath... (I know, not an attractive thought )

Ive always noticed a few Hundred MHZ Higher OC and Less Volts to do it. Thats Going from 140watt to 125watt..

The only time ive seen a 140watt counter part be better was My 9950 140watt . One of the few that out performed a 125watt counter part.. MHZ wise..(3.9ghz) In Fact I used a lot more power to get to 3.6ghz at the Same MHZ as a 9850 @ 3.6ghz and a huge amount more to pass a 9950 (125watt )when Oced above 3.8ghz

In most part the 125watt IMC will be better and allow more NB on the lower watts (newer and or same steppings). Its rare that a higher 140watt chip does better than new Lower 125TDP of same freqency(better batches/yields) . As batches improve the TDP improve with it in most cases.

Thus you can almost expect the few more MHZ in todays chips when going from 140watt to 125watt unless you get one with 6cores jk/k lol.

With C3 id keep around 1.6v or lower if your using High NB...That heat does build up fron NB especially when Gaming or Benching..Lower NB will help control that alot with any Phenom, but i know you already know that.

I hope they release with a under $200 price most likely it will, I wonder if 975 will be released around the same time?

Every single Phenom Ive owned 9950/940/965 has been a 140w version So Ive never run a 125w cpu But I hope they follow the same pattern.

Hopefully the new revision can have a stable 4Ghz and above on lower voltages, anything that is under 1.4V is good.

i think, new revision will better AIR overcloking friendly, with lower voltage, better overclocking not only procesor frequency, but too northbridge with lower voltage. Think, 4 GHz AIR 24/7 stable, for benchmarks hope 4200 MHz (Cinebench, wprime 1024) and about 4600 MHz validation with 1.55V ,-). My C3 is now on the way to me :-)
edit: and what i know, x64 drops are fixed, now the same stable OC in x64 as x86 (with C2 i have 70 MHz diferent between x86 and x64 stability)

I hope they tweak the DDR3 controller for higher speed and compatibility. I have a 955 on a GD70 running 4*4850 for crunching, but i have a very hard time OCing RAM "OCZ Reaper 1600Mhz"

When the 9950 went from 140W to 125W there wasn't a stepping change. I'd guess that AMD tweaked the transistors and the process a bit to get consumption down but it wasn't enough to see a new stepping come out of the changes. Those chips OC'd 100-150 Mhz higher on average, and there were a lot of good 140 watters that would still do better than an average 125 watter. This is similar to what you'll see when comparing a 0850 batch 940 to a 092X/093X 965.

They are actually going to be changing the masks, afaik, for these C3 cpus, so we should see more improvements than can be had on just process tech alone. Think 9500-9550 P1 overclocking: The former can do 2.5 if you're lucky, while the latter will easily hit 3.0 and higher if your board can handle the HT ref required. I predict that, with C3, we'll see greater tolerance of high temps and improved mem clocking, in addition to higher clocks with less volts.

same here... on AIR, of course
    And now I'm happy!
Adobe is working on Flash Player support for 64-bit platforms as part of our ongoing commitment to the cross-platform compatibility of Flash Player. We expect to provide native support for 64-bit platforms in an upcoming release of Flash Player following the release of Flash Player 10.1.

I think you guys are being just a tad optimistic based on what we have seen in the past.....

What we have seen on high leakage ES in the past is No sub 10's on LHE and no 7gig without LHE.

Obviously retails didn't come close to the High leakage.....

The high leakage parts of yesterday usually end up being the retail parts of tommorow with out the leakage.

I've got no strings to hold me down.
To make me fret, or make me frown.
I had strings but now I'm free.
There are no strings on me

Im hoping for a better clock, but not too much. 3750 2800 NB on my 940 is pretty good. I can also bench a 3.85/2842.

So I am hoping for a little more, but not expecting a ton. Just looking forward to going DDR 3 now

Once you are able to get some 5850's, I will have a couple of those too
    C3 Phenom II 965 BE (0941CPMW)
    Msi 790Fx-GD 70
2x2 gb OCZ AMD Black Edition 1600mhz DDR 3
    2x MSI HD 5850's OC edition X-fire
    2x Western Digital 250gb 16mb cache Raid-0
    1x Seagate 1 TB Data
    SILVERSTONE|DA700 700W RT Power Supply
    Koolance INX-720 (Koolance 345 block)
    LianLi pc-60fwb
